The fact that this movie was nominated for the first ever Animation category at The Oscars alongside Shrek & Monsters, Inc. shows how iconic and great of a movie this is
That blows my mind how animated films didn’t get a better chance to win an Oscar (and one would be guaranteed ) until 2002.

People called this show a Dexter's Lab clone. The key difference they ignore is that Dexter is basically a neurotic mini adult, whereas Jimmy came off as an actual kid, even if he was a genius.
When you just tell the basic premise, it's only natural to feel some similarities, but the two shows have such drastically different vibes to them, it really doesn't strike you.

Dexter was a regular kid in his own right as well. His lab felt larger than life and he kept it a secret from his parents while his sister destroyed everything 🤔.
Jimmy's lab was smaller and felt more homely, and his Parents and friends knew about his lab and sci-fi adventures 🤔.
Early CGI wasn't afraid to test the limits and go full wacky, which made it a lot more fun.
Exactly, thats why I love Weirdohs tv show so much. It was still using stretchy classic toon logic.

The launch sequence when they all get into the spaceships made of amusement park rides is one of the greatest animations ever made. That part goes so hard.

Especially the use of “Kids In America” during the scene which funny enough was the first time I ever heard of the song (I actually thought it was an original song, I didn’t know it was originally released in 1981 by Kim Wilde).
"Jimmy Neutron" and "Shrek" proves that it doesn't matter if it is old, as long as the story is great.

Well, Shrek's animation didn't age nearly as much. Jimmy Neutron was done on a shoestring budget by comparison.

Remember, when the Academy first created the Best Animated Film category, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius was nominated, along with Monsters Inc., and the big winner, Shrek. What a memetastic trio of movies right there!
Even the creators knew they were just being considered as token filler at the Awards. They didn't want to give another nomination to anything by Disney and JN was the only other theatrically released animation from a major studio.
@@yarpen26 Actually, from what I heard, Disney’s Atlantis the Lost Empire was considered ineligible for the award because it wasn’t submitted in time for the deadline. Even the Academy sent a letter saying “Hey yeah we saw you didn’t submit Atlantis. We know this is a new category and all, so if you want you can try again even though it’s late, we can put you on the ballot!” Disney at that point gave up on Atlantis and wanted to put all their effort towards Monsters Inc. basically replying with “Nah go ahead.”
I always liked that the biggest difference between characters like Jimmy and Dexter is that Jimmy uses his smarts to still act like a kid, while Dexter acts like an actual scientist.

I grew up with Dexter, didn't watch Jimmy until well into my adulthood as Cartoon Network was the only widely available kids' network in my country at the time, almost nobody knew Nickolodeon, save for a couple shows that the local Disney Channel snatched for syndication (that's right: imagine Spongebob and FOP on Disney freaking Channel), but even then, while I did greatly enjoy Dexter, I never once genuinely related to the guy (despite also having a big sister), whereas I feel I would have loved Jimmy had I actually been exposed to it back in the day (and hell, I still ended up watching the show all the way through and genuinely liked the writing).

Ever notice that Nick represents the network itself. Think about it, his name is Nick Dean (Nickelodeon) and at first he's this really cool guy, but as the show progresses he's portrayed as being not as cool as we thought. I don't think that was coincidence.

My brother is autistic and this movie was his hyper-fixation for a year. When i say i have seen it probably 200 times i'm not kidding. It was on repeat on vhs.

6:43 I didn’t expect Nicks voice to be so high in the English version lmao. In the Dutch version I grew up with, his voice was literally that of a 25 yr old surfer dude. Now that I know it wasn’t his original voice, it makes the Dutch version even funnier to me
Hearing the English voices for the first time now, I think the Dutch version got surprisingly close to the original.

The writing in the show was actually pretty well done. Loved this show.
Yeah, it was def the writing and voice acting that helped a lot. The characters themselves were pretty meh, and the jokes were okay, but the characters voices and delivery are so perfect that even a stupid episode or joke still lands somehow

I was 3 when the Jimmy Neutron Movie came out. My favorite scenes were always when the kids were going wild after learning there’s no parents around to tell them what to do and when they make the Retroland rides into rockets. That’s why I love the song Kids in America. Man. Time goes by way too fast

When this movie first showed up, I immediately compared it to Dexter's Lab, but I thought it was really interesting how his parents not only knew about his lab in this but were encouraging of it. There was something really fun about his experiments that I liked such as the bubble thing or literally turning theme park rides into rockets.

I remember one time when one of my teachers actually put this on, of which it was also the first I saw this movie. It was just something my teacher did every Friday. Every Friday afternoon, my teacher would just let us relax and do virtually anything we wanted, within reason of course. This included putting on a movie for us to just sit back, relax, and watch it. And one of the movies she let us watch was Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius.
The spaceship-building montage was my absolute favorite as a kid

I was literally just thinking about this movie before I saw your video at the top of my page. I was introduced to this movie by my cousins and loved it. We’d quote it so often, and probably drove our parents crazy. Something I’d completely forgotten about before it randomly popped into my head was the Nickelodeon special where they had Jimmy, Carl, and Sheen watch the movie and provide commentary. Really wish I could find that.
In The USA "The Lord Of Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" came out in December 19. Then 2 days later this movie came out in USA.
