    I got an FC40 in one of my D1’s. I kinda got it “just because”. I didn’t have an FC40 in my collection. It was quickly become my favorite light for my nightly runs. I put a little story yesterday on Reddit about how it literally saved my a$$ from getting seriously hurt.
    Also I have a W2 blue and green. They are great fun.

      I actually saw your post about it, that's awesome it was able to save you like that... Not fun that you needed it to in the first place though 😬
      FC40 does seem like a good option, I just personally think B35Am is better, BUT it's like half as bright as FC40 so not as good for that particular application

    The D1v2 and KR1, in 18350 form, are definitely my favorite compact throwers. It's great being able to see things half a kilometer away at night, using a light small enough to forget about until I need it. That said though, I don't need it very often. I spend a lot more time with a KR4 or an old FW3A (back when those were still decent). KR4 with Nichia 219B sw45k emitters is pretty close to perfect for a daily general-use light.

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  2 года назад +3

      I'm really tempted to pick up a KR4 with some 519as, it looks like a really good EDC option, it might possibly convince me to go back to a tailswitch.
      It sucks though that Lumintop ruined the FWs, I really like the design of the FW3a and FW1a, they're nicer to carry than the thick Emisars :/

    • @ToyKeeper
      @ToyKeeper 2 года назад +1

      @@LuxWad I got a DW4 with 519A emitters... and I wouldn't recommend it for a KR4. It makes a floody beam even floodier. That's fine (even desirable) for a headlamp, but not so much for a general-purpose light. Total lumens are a bit higher, but with the floodier beam, it doesn't really look any brighter... it just uses up the battery faster. Also, the tint is unfortunately more green than I hoped, even in the tint-mixed 2700K+5700K version I got. I would have been happier with 219B or two shades of XP-L HI.
      Agreed about the FWxA being nicer to carry though. Hank's designs are quite thick and heavy.

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  2 года назад +2

      I've actually got the DW4 with the 519a in 4500K and I quite like it, but yeah it's really floody. Have you tried the emitters dedomed? Everyone seems to think they beat out the XP-L HI as a nicely tinted Thrower.
      I think I might get two 519a KR4s to compare the linear and boost drivers in real use. Maybe I'll try to get a throwier optic too to see how it goes.
      Jackson Lee tells me he carries the FW lights with the 7+1 driver, I'd love to do a video comparing the different versions for buyers if I can ever find the time for it

    • @befringe
      @befringe 2 года назад

      @@LuxWad So many people are still thinking about which driver to go with the 4x 519 in kr4 or d4v2. It is a pity that the large inductor does not fit into the body of these lights and the turbo mode is cutted in half on the boost version of the driver. I wonder if the boost driver is worth the sacrifice or old linear drivers are not that much worse with the battery in real life.

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  2 года назад +3

      That's a bit tricky, If you want good cri and throw there's not much you CA get for this light, B35AM and GTFC40 are much floodier than the other options, and SST20 throwy and high-CRI but much dimmer.

The XPL-HI might look a touch brighter but not much. I forgot to check the lights on my Opple before I left for vacation, so I don't have comparative numbers right now. I can say that after side by side comparing the lights in use at the lake, they seem quite similar. The XPL-HI is a bit brighter and quite nuetral (just above bbl based on my eye. My standalone chargers are faster and more precise. I think they will be better for the batteries over their lifetime.
