Mike, LRB was big in the US back in the day. Glenn is one of my favourite singers. Absolutely beautiful voice. The whole band was incredibly talented. Probably our version of The Eagles, in a way. When Glenn left the band John Farnham became their lead singer for a few years. ❤️🇦🇺👍 Great choice, Davo!
It is now an american band, disbanded, a member legally took the name over and reformed it without aussies or NZers, the original members lost their songs too..
@@kathleenmayhorne3183 They didnt lose their songs, but the fools who burnt major bridges and stole the three founders intellectual property and were allowed by the inept Supreme Court got locked out the vast majority of songs. They could only play the very limited ones that they had their names in the credits. The three now call themselves Birtles, Shorrock and Gobel or BSG for short and play ALL the songs.
Thanks Mike for playing my request its actually pronounced Day Vo which is just the usual Aussie way of shortening the name David. Yes my wife and I are always on the road together even after 36 years of marriage we still somehow manage to get on... We have lived and worked in a number of countries around the world before we retired and music like LRB, The Eagles, CSNY have always accompanid us whenever we have been on the road exploring those places.. This is a pretty nostalgic video which I have never actually seen before so thanks for that. For me its nostagic because of the music and footage of the band but for you I imagine ts also the fact that it was filmed in yoiur neck of the woods so many years ago. For cruising around in your truck you really need to pull out the digitally remastered version from 2022 that one is not a video just an audio . RV in Australia is a more a term that we would use for motorhomes rather than caravans althought its a generic term that can sometimes used for both. Cheers mate have a great day.
LRB had/ has such a smooth sound - beautiful harmonies, perfect for a cocktail or fine wine in a classy joint. Their performances and especially their harmonies were really tight and flawless. So many gorgeous songs came from LRB. John Farnham took over from Glenn Shorrock from 1982-1986 and up-ended everything, changing the sound and presentation completely. Glenn was this laidback cool crooner, then in bounces Farnsey like Tigger on a pogo stick; he just couldn't be contained!😅
The one band everyone likened to The Eagles due to their harmonies. They did open for the Eagles in the US, Glenn Frey loved them so much he returned to tour with them on his own in australia in 1988. They played both LRB and Eagles songs in that concert.
Mike, thankyou for this. Please allow my nostalgia- the town of Little River is about 20 miles from where my Texan husband and I live. It's outside of Melbourne. But ive lived in Texas and and know that everything is 'a long way there'!
Davo & partner are what most Aussies call "grey nomads"........ mostly retired people who just follow their whims & fancies on the road until life or funding changes their trajectories.
@@SonofBuck-f7z John disliked his time in the band. He took over from Glen Shorrock, the lead singer here. Some in the band were jealous of him and tried to clip his wings. John wrote and sang some songs about that experience. This genre is called 'lounge music.' Some of the other members came with him to form his stage band after he left LRB.
I love LRB and am subscribed to the original member channel called "Shorrock Birtles Goble Little River Band Founders" and "Roger McLaughlan" who was in this band for a while (and also in Stars 🌟). Others have mentioned that John Farnham was in this band, but Steve Prestwich of Cold Chisel played drums for them too. A former band of Beeb Birtles was Zoot and he played in that band with another Aussie, Rick Springfield. Small world hey! My favourites of Zoot's songs are covers of Life in a Northern Town (originally by Dream Acadamy) and the Beatles song, Eleanor Rigby.

Big venue performers, saw them in a pub in Hobart late 70's, walked out half way through, they were crap. Unlike Farnsy and Barnsy who gave their all no matter how small the crowd might be.
I did like LRB, the guys has great voices and harmonies to die for... but they were always a bit too "elevator music" for me. I like music a bit more up beat so when Farnham took over from Shorrock, I loved the harder more rock edge he bought to the band. Sadly though LRB fans were not happy with the change, and the band members didn't like John's energetic movement around the stage so they taped down his mic stand. They also didn't like feeling that they had become the Farnham backing band. Stars that shine like John's are always meant to be centre stage. On the other hand, John's own band, that he put together after LRB, worshipped him, and he worships them, they were all like a big extended family. In fact a few of the members of LRB who joined around the same time as John did, also left when John did and joined John's new band. Most of them remaining members of the Farnham band for decades. In between tours and recording, they went off and did their own thing and John often did backing vocals for their albums. Two great bands but totallly chalk and cheese
Lrb had one Grammy nomination: lonesome loser. Check it out. Also worth pointing out the band still goes but has no original members in it. Essentially a cover band.
@@amplifiedlight no I didnt drop the ball I actually asked for the remastered version but Mike missed it in my comment no problem this was great anyhow and there was a link to his home town.. There are actually 2 remasterd versions of this track one in 2010 and one in 2022 both of them are excellent. Feel free to buy Mike a coffee and request he plays the 2022 version because as you say it is a far better way to listen to this song and I have suggested to him that would be the one for his truck..
Alright ladies, I can't be expected to read the "Whole" request. Ha ha.... sorry for missing the "remastered" version Davo, I totally blew it my friend.
Thanks, I replayed it and in some parts I could pick shorrock Clive but it’s a horrible recording and the guitar breaks sound garbled. Love Aussie music.
@bobmcdougall8981 Shorrock, Noble, Birtles from the original line up are there, I think Derek Pellici is also there but I was only half watching.. latecomers Housden and Nelson are the remainder of the lineup on this clip
Its ironic that G;enn introduced the pommie guy they brought into the band as a replacement guitarist Stephen Housden. He is the one who stole the bands name and their music out from under the original members. I have seen a video from the US of the current LRB performing with their now all American line up they would be classed as nothing more than a 2nd rate cover band back here in Australia.

Happy to do it Davo... Ya'll be careful down there
Nice request Davo. Cheers and happy travelling!
Grey Nomads is the term for those retired travelling around Australia with their caravans ❤
@@narellesmith7932 yeah I am a long term member of the grey nomads its a great forum for all things RV..
LRB did have hits in America because they sounded very American. Of course, us Aussies loved them too and were proud of their success...
I grew up with this band and I love them. I got married in the real Little River in Victoria,Melbourne, Australia where they got their name!
I grew up in the mountains, and we had a "Little River" Too. When I was younger, I thought thats where they got their name.. lol
I camped in the area in Victoria as a teenager... many a long year ago, and spent the days at the beaches.
In Australia, we call the aged traveling in a caravan, "grey nomads".
I fit that description too.. I like it!

One of my favourites. Fan from the late 70s.
The Eagles once said that the Little River Band was the best harmony group in the world.

Always great songs, harmonies & musicianship 🎉
LRB fantastic band, you will definitely know their bigger hits, but this is my personal favourite of theirs!

This is nice Mike. Keep up the theme man. Cheers pal from Sydney, AU.
I personally love Little River Band's song - Cool Change - a song just to chill to
LRB was a great band. As a youngster I considered it 'Yacht Rock'. Grew on me later
This is one of my fav LRB songs . Fun fact Mike- when the singer Glen Shorrock left the band John Farnham took over the singing briefly

The current version is a tragedy of a band..
Was enjoying it until the interview., so the album version would have better, as no interview & a is a cleaner cut.

This is not the original song. I suspect this is the false pretenders who tour as LRB.
