Judith Durham had suffered a stroke, so she sat and didn't move her affected arm. What a trooper. Bruce Woodley, wrote this, Greg Potger, and Athol Guy, with his double Bass. Were all the original band members in the 60's, and all did well to do this a few years ago.
We lost Judith in the same week as we lost Olivia Newton John. In this song she is leaning against a tall stool. She had a massive stroke and had to learn to walk and talk again. She was left with a lung disease from measles as a child but she never lost that voice. I love her singing When The Carnival is Over. Like Livvie, Judith was a very special lady and they are both missed. Thank you.
The song is Australian but the message is for everyone. You are the land you walk upon, and what those before have given to it, and you will add to what the land gives to future generations when you have left it. "The spirit of this great land" applies to everyone, everywhere.
I think Australians are very patriotic but in a different way to the US. Of course this is a generalisation, but I feel for most Australians it is personal, almost reverential and doesn’t need to be outwardly demonstrated. It is also not blind.
There are many of us that believe this song should be our national anthem. It describes our country so well and includes us all. It so good a song, it makes me cry...
The Seekers were MASSIVE in the 1960s, especially in the UK. You look back at the charts and they were battling it out with the Beatles and The Beach Boys for No1s.

The operative word here is Australian. Not many New South Welshmen, or Victorians with their state flags flying. A great feeling to be an Aussie, albeit an expat. 🇦🇺👏👏 Keep up the great work mate
So true. There’s very few lines we draw “a line under” and pit Viccie against New South Welshman or South Aussie vs Queenslander. We all truly consider ourselves to be of 1 single nation, not a nation divided by states and territories to the point like Americans do. The only real time you’ll see the Australian flag everywhere is in Australia Day. Our two greatest adversaries are Cyclone and Bushfire - any time those disasters strike, the states and territories literally unite in every sense of the word.

I love your reactions, because I feel your genuine nature really comes through in them. I also appreciate the sentiment you shared about serving and feeling that pride and connection with country, and how you can see it's the same with us. Here in Australia we do have some state pride, particularly when it comes to sports like Rugby League's 'State of Origin', played between QLD and NSW every year. Or friendly rivalries and jokes about other states. However, maybe it's because of our smaller population in comparison to the US that we feel more of a general pride as Aussies that far, far outweighs any state pride, and also being so very isolated (distance-wise) from the rest of the world, we tend to stick together and help each other out. So that's it. Just FYI, Australia and the US are almost the same size in terms of land mass, but we only have around 27 million people to your 330+ million. Anyway, keep it up! Glad you're enjoying our great Aussie music!
Ex texan here! I'm got my Australian citizenship in Jan. There's a major, huge difference in Australian patriotism vs American. Their Patriotism is equality and freedom for all. Ours, especially in texas is for the most part, oppression and taking away rights of others while forcing our religion onto others. Here, every religion, non religion, creed, sexuality, race is accepted. It's secularism is what makes it patriotic, huge difference.
I’m at home by myself after working a night shift and I just sang every word loudly and out of tune.. but I don’t care.. when aussies hear this song we sing it loudly and proudly..it should be our national anthem Also I think the convicts that came to Australia must have been shocked by the heat after coming from the UK but if they were good they ended up being given 30 acres plus of land..it is thought that 20% of Australians are descendants from convicts..❤
We’re very proud of Australia and to be Australian but we don’t talk about it. We are crunch time people, when one part of the country is in trouble we band together like no other country in the world. ❤

That so called quantas advertisement is a Peter Allen song. Just because quantas ripped it off for an ad, doesn't make it a quantas song. Give credit where credit is due. Peter Allen was a famous Australian performer and singer songwriter.
I said advertisement i didnt say song. I love peter allen especially tenterfield saddler. I recommended because the qantas ad is emotional and quintessentially australian. My suggestion was because he valued our pride as aussies in the seekers reaction. Why did you find it necessary to have a go at me?
@@vivross8339 because you failed to give the credit to the songwriter. Simple, it's a Quantas Advertisement using a Peter Allen song. You made it sound like it was a tune made for an Advertisement. Are you an honorary American because you like certain American bands? Nope. The whole damn add is based around the words of the song.
Thanks so much Mike this is the right one lol....and this is such a unifying song for most of us. Our current government had tried to divide our country last year but as the words of the song say. "We are ONE and from all the lands on earth we come" We are a huge Island Continent and a small population of approx 27 million....Also referred to as The Great Southern Land. Also a great Sporting nation...& we finished 3 on the Olympic medal count against the massive USA and China....so we punch above our weight lol
We have pride but we also have something called tall poppy syndrome as a nation which brings about a humble quality as you will just get laughed at if boastful in success

Thanks for the comment
This video popped up in my recommendations so I decided to check it out. Awesome channel. Subscribed.
Loving your Australian artists reactions. Was hoping this would come up. They even out-did the Beatles at one point!
Good info my friend. Yeah, we have a long way to go to being as welcoming as Australia. Glad you see the difference.
I’m at home by myself after working a night shift and I just sang every word loudly and out of tune.. but I don’t care.. when aussies hear this song we sing it loudly and proudly..it should be our national anthem
Also I think the convicts that came to Australia must have been shocked by the heat after coming from the UK but if they were good they ended up being given 30 acres plus of land..it is thought that 20% of Australians are descendants from convicts..❤
We’re very proud of Australia and to be Australian but we don’t talk about it. We are crunch time people, when one part of the country is in trouble we band together like no other country in the world. ❤
I've seen lots of reactions to this (and I'm always fascinated by them), but I get the impression you understood it a bit deeper than most.
Our unofficial anthem of Australia!
RIP Judith
REACT to qantas advertisement. I still call Australia home. Ive seen another u.s reactor "IWROCKER" cry when he saw it (He has become an honorary Aussie you are too)
That so called quantas advertisement is a Peter Allen song. Just because quantas ripped it off for an ad, doesn't make it a quantas song. Give credit where credit is due. Peter Allen was a famous Australian performer and singer songwriter.
@@stephenanthony6508 Well said. Score one for the songwriters. Mind you, the ad agency did a beautiful job with the presentation.
@@mrmockatoo6786 yes they did, certainly different than the film clip Peter recorded. The boy from Tenterfield. More famous in the USA than Australia.
Ohhhh, we don't have honorary Aussies. Your Australian or your not, Simple. Just because they are showing an appreciation for Australian and New Zealand bands doesn't make them an honorary aussie. Are you an honorary American because you like certain American bands? Nope. The whole damn add is based around the words of the song.
Alot of Australia’s dont like the national patriotic flag because of Aboriginal history- so we fly the Aboriginal flag on our national Australia day
i feel very sorry for those who are not proud, living in the past
This is the one. Cheers, mate.
At the end of the video you said you weren't good at showing your emotions... you are better than you realise!! 😊
love your work mate
Work is a swear word here in Australia 😂
Must be the same here, cause I hate it...lol
The Seekers had been around for years around the same time as Peter Paul and Mary, enjoy the rabbit hole.
It used to be this way, Pre 2001
Thanks so much Mike this is the right one lol....and this is such a unifying song for most of us. Our current government had tried to divide our country last year but as the words of the song say. "We are ONE and from all the lands on earth we come" We are a huge Island Continent and a small population of approx 27 million....Also referred to as The Great Southern Land. Also a great Sporting nation...& we finished 3 on the Olympic medal count against the massive USA and China....so we punch above our weight lol
United States, China, Japan, Australia, fourth?
We have pride but we also have something called tall poppy syndrome as a nation which brings about a humble quality as you will just get laughed at if boastful in success
You need to check out Redgum (I was only 19)
Did that one too ha ha.. its on this channel too
Australians and our mates across the ditch, the Kiwis rarely fly the national flags unlike you lot, they normally reserved for government buildings but come Australia Day 26th of January they are everywhere along with ANZAC Day. Our respective flag is flown with great pride. 🇦🇺🦘🇳🇿. also, a lot of people want this as the national anthem rather than the one we have.. the song is a history lesson of Australia.
I worked in an office of 720 people and there were 96 different ethnicities.. So we are from many lands and yet we are one
unofficial Australian anthem
Yes, we love our country, but flags aren’t such a big thing. Flags are essentially military things.
You just reminded me, Senior Aussie here and I’ve only seen one Aussie home with a large flag flying. Yup, we are very patriotic indeed, but we’ve never been big on the house flags have we. At some gatherings, a little hand held Aussie flag, I still have one here - somewhere 😊
G'day mike
Yeah we feel blessed to have what we've got
So we respected it and know have to look after it
Also understand its like no other place on earth
Alot of uniqueness to our animals and plants
So we try to preserve as much as we can as individuals
Many are growing native gardens now to accommodate the animals and stop lose of plants
As we realise we keep encroaching on their habitats so to minimise that we are adjusting our properties
More drought tolerant and food habitat with the animals
It's never been like this always but been Changes in thinking
Yeah our history in a song
It's what makes us you Canada plus a couple other similar
We all care about where and how we live
Also understand that hardship breeds strenght and resilience
Most of all character in the people to enjoy your time as where reminded regularly
That we are not in control but only along for the ride mother nature dictates what happens in live
She'll give it and take it away just as quick if we don't do the right things
Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
Australia was always considered to be the lucky country. Things are changing here, not for the better.
Bit like America, not sure if you are a Trump supporter.
If he gets in America is in big trouble.
Yes, you're right but the man who coined the phrase Lucky Country, author/journalist Donald Horne, used it ironically. Even back in the 50s - 60s he saw that we lived in a resource rich country mismanaged by plunderers and buffoons.
I am An Aussie. I LOVE my country, but I HATE its government
Hear, hear!
