“All you other 4 guys, this is ours.”
Wow. What a classy actor. Respect.
RIP Louis Gossett Jr.
1936-2024.
I loved his smile.
Great actor ( RIP )
So many will come here today to watch Louis win that award, thanks for the memories. RIP. Will never forget his portrayal in An Officer and a Gentlemen, Cigar, Mayonnaise, don't know if Gossett had a nickname for Worley.
RIP LOU GOSSETT JR.⚘️May the Good Lord give your family strength and comfort❤
I just watched An Officer and A Gentleman list night for the first time and a few hours later he passes away. Loved his work on the movie. RIP
He did an outstanding performance in that movie as well as playing "Fiddler" in the series "Roots."
Rest In Eternal Peace Louis. Thank you for paving the way with quiet dignity and unrelenting grace. Forever indebted! 🤍
He was so brilliant in that role. Still a favorite movie of mine.
yeah.. bad ass dude. nail that role
The man kicked Richard Gere's ass, I loved it!😘
And he was trained by a real life Marine drill instructor R. Lee Emrey (Full Metal Jacket). What I heard at one of the videos of him of the first time.
Yes, he deserved the win IMO, but all those actors were very very good in those roles.. In particular James Mason as the cool and scholarly opposing attorney/antagonist, and Robert Preston, who chews up the screen anytime he’s in a film..
‘To all you other four guys, this is OURS. Thank you.’ What an ending to a speech that was.
CYP0
many is at winners say that exact line. this is for all of us etc etc.
Lovely speech though. very nice.
RIP Louis Gossett Jr.🙏
He was perfect in this role. I can't imagine anyone else doing as well for this particular movie. He deserved this Oscar
R lee j ermey
Most definitely, a fantastic movie.
@@gairickdam18Mr. Gossett was just as intimidating without being completely over the top.
A legendary performance. Well deserved.
Richard Gere was just as good and He deserve the Oscar too. The fight scene Louis Gossett jr. Didn't even finish it they had a stunt man in it.
@@ryanmccoy756 no way!!!! Louis nailed it!!!!!!
Louis deserved the oscar
Robert Preston!!
Dayyyumm skippy!! If ever a winner for "Best Supporting Actor" gave a better performance than Louis Gossett, Jr. did in that movie, one would be VERY hard-pressed to find another performance in ANY other movie that matches it. I was sooooooo happy to know that Louis won it, not only because the role was SUPERBLY done and he richly deserved it, but because Louis is a great guy, as well. (Note: I normally don't overly gush over a performance and/or individual, but Gossett's performance was the DI was/is rarified air in the history of acting, IMO.)
How wonderful to see Chris Reeve in all his youthful splendor. And how great to see Louis Gossett Jr winning for his sublime acting. Just saw him a few minutes ago in the red carpet up to the Oscars - he looks fantastic !
Elaine Snow I was born 89, so I can only remember him in a wheelchair, its very surreal to see him walk
Viewed March 30, 2024. An award absolutely earned❤❤. Made the entire film!!?
I just tear up any time I see images of Christopher Reeve like this. A classy, generous, considerate, and gracious performer and human being. I can only hope he has found peace and wellness in some isolated corner of the universe. We could have used him a little while longer in our corner to humanize the people who appear larger than life on our movie screens. Bless your dear and gentle soul, Chris, wherever you are.....😪😪😪
Class act! All you four guys this is ours! I mean what a winner and then to share it I tell you he was one of a kind RIP LGJ 🕯️
There was nothing phony about him.
You were so great Louis. Your presence will be never forgotten.
GREAT actor!
R.I.P. Louis, you were amazing
Rest In Power to Louis Gossett Jr, great man and great actor. You will be sadly missed, Good Sir.
I went to Marine Corps Boot Camp in 1986 and Senior Drill Instructor Johnson could have been Louis Gossett Jr and Vice Versa. LGJ without a doubt, in my opinion and experience, the best portrayal of a Marine Drill Instructor ever. The Oscar was for a perfect performance. RIP Sir.
My condolences to the friends and family of Louis Gossett Jr. May he rest in peace
Mayo-NAISE!!!

Goodbye, Mr Gossett Jr 😢❤
" Only two things come out of Oklahoma, Steers and **"
Don’t you eyeball me boy!
When I saw "An Officer and A Gentleman," I told a relative who went to see this with me that "Louis Gossett Jr." would win the Oscar- I wished I put money on a bet because he sure did win and well deserved!!
How old were you when you went to see this movie? It's been almost 40 years. I watched this movie recently and i loved the ending. ❤️❤️
Absutely
@@yashshah3484 I was 7 years old…
A deserved Oscar for one of the elite movie performances of all time
Absolutely deserved.
When a performance elevates the rest of the film, you know the actor has done good. He was brilliant.
Exactly. Without his performance that movie wouldn't be nearly as iconic.
@@trawlins396 Very well-stated!!
Saw him 1987.Asked for his autograph.Knid man ,called me son It's just the way he said it."Son' .Very honored to have been in his presence.🙏
Rest in Peace
Mr. Louis Gossett Jr
RIP Louis Gossett Jr
LIVE IN ETERNAL SPIRIT ALWAYS ANGEL ANCESTOR THE LEGENDARY LOUIS GOSSETT JR!! 💯💫
Gossett was the clear cut winner here. One of the best acting performances EVER !
He made you feel like you were there and he was in your face. His speaking and voice control throught this movie was spectacular. No slips no flaws, just perfection.
He deserved the Oscar. He and the movie were great.
May he R.I.P...he was an awesome actor
the man is all class.
MY CONDOLENCES FOR ALL HIS FAMILY AND DEAR FRIENDS... R.I.P GREAT MAN !
RIP Lou Gossit Jr
I'm watching now, on the day that Mr Gossett has passed away.
A very well-deserved accolade from an incredibly accomplished artist.
May you rest peacefully, sir.
Your great grandmother has welcomed you home.
🙏🙏🙏
What a wonderful, classy man.
He was an awesome actor.
Lou Gossett Jr. is truly a class act.
I never knew about this guy until today. Wtf? He's a whole Oscar winning actor? And the first black man to win in the best Supporting actor category? Wow RIP Legend.
I loved him in Enemy Mine... One of my favorite movies as a kid. I don't think anyone has done a better alien than Louis.
his role in that movie probably inspired present-day woke-sters to believe that men could get pregnant. LoL!
I forgot about that movie you are so right
I have loved all of his work of what I was made aware of. Sometime last year, I started looking more in depth into his more obscure and forgotten work. A simply brilliant actor and a good man, as shown here. Thank you Mr. Louis Gossett Jr.
I 'm glad he won that award. if I met him in person i'd tell him thank you for playing such a noble role.
He has a Twitter account; much to my delight, he actually responded to a question I asked him via Twitter. He's a remarkable man.
Rest in Peace my condolences to the family
Very humble.
Lou had some real competition with The Great English actor James Mason. But that role of the Gunnery Sergeant was a perfect role written exactly for Lou, and the excellent story of how he digs character out of his recruits. And it came together perfectly. He indeed deserved it.
RIP Mr. Gossett
One of the best performances ever! He's one of the finest actors 👏
Back when actors were actors, not advertisements.
True Dat my nigga
@Watson Everly You didn't understand absolutely nothing, he saying about political PC SJW crap.
Watson Everly he means back when a black person won once every decade because of largely white films and racial prejudice within the academy. He wants black people to win less is what he's saying because he thinks the more recent black Oscar winners didn't deserve it in his mind. In other words -It's just a racist, nothing to see here.
@@tlaw9540 No he doesn't mean that you racist card waver. He's talking about merit, about what is important, talent, personality, humanity and something bigger that connects people all races and nationalities, great art and great movies. Now move along to CNN and Guardian snowflake.
ok boomer
Truly a scholar and a gentlemen. RIP Lewis Gossett Jr. You will be missed.😢
RIP. Wonderful performance....he definitely had horns
He is such a handsome and elegant man
RIP 🙏 to legendary actor Louis Gossett! Thank you for your great work and contributions to the entertainment industry!

Another tough category, but, i agree, the standout performance was Louis Gossett jr.
Always have enjoyed watching him in films.
Remarkable Man !
Great Actor !

Gracious man and well deserved.
One of the greatest characters in movie history portrayed by one of the best actors. A role he alone could have only done. Rest in peace Sir.
Thank you for a great performance. Could never had made it without you SIR. RIP Louis Gossett Jr.
He totally deserved it, he played a phenomenal role as Foley.

One of favourite movies.
Rip Reeve.
never get bored of watching his amazing performance.
Such a classy, fine actor. RIP, sir.
I'm glad Louis Gossett Jr earned a Oscar for that movie
Just finished watching An Officer and a Gentleman. Loved it! Amazing movie and amazing actors! Louis Gossett Jr. very much deserved that Oscar. Just a shame though that Richard Gere wasn't even nominated. He was very deserving of an award as well.
I disagree. He was still very green then. He was good but not great.
@@trawlins396 I disagree. Gere was great in the film. And he wasn't green. He was white.
@@MrGenexxx I agree. Gere was fantastic especially considering he and Debra Winger hated each other.
Truly sad he passed. He was a great actor, I've re-watched so many of his movies. RIP Louis
I Watch The Movie Yesterday. It Was Very Touching And Louis Gossett Jr Performed Very Well.
"Fiddler".
You gave us the best of you. Mr. Louis Gossert Jr.
To all you other 4 guys......this is ours. Pure class.
RIP Louis Gosset Jr.......great actor, greater soul. 🙏
Louis appeared on The Jeffersons as George's old buddy, who hits on Louise.
Louis Gosset Jr deserved it, he's a great actor and he was suberb in "An Officer and a Gentleman". About his speech it's one of the best i've ever heard, so humble, so down to earth, Lou is pure class! it's a shame he never got big or starred in another good film roles.
R lee ermey coached him who did the same in full metal jacket
Rest in power to the great, Louis gossett Jr.!!! A man of class, A man of Honor. A warrior king!!!! B1
RIP Louie Gossett Jr.
He definitely deserved that oscar. His performance had me close to tears by the end.
It shouldn’t have taken until 1982 for a black actor to win this award, but I’m glad he did. Louis Gossett Jr. is easily the best part of An Officer and a Gentleman.
RIP Louis. We appreciate you and thank you for your presence.
Well-deserved. He was great in that role.
RIP to you SIR.
I just watched the movie again and his acting in his role was amazing and this award was well deserved! He was simply amazing!
Well deserved. His performance was amazing. RIP Lou Gosset Jr. You will be sorely missed but your work in movies like Enemy Mine and An Officer and a Gentleman and so many more, will stand the test of time.
An Officer and a Gentleman is one of the best movies of the last 50 years
Rip, Louis Gossett!
Officer and a Gentleman....you can re-watch this movie again every few years and it never gets old or boring......actually just last night I googled to watch the ending....and I ended up watching the whole movie again.....which I hadn't seen since the start of COVID lockdown!!!!!
All the other 4 movies were awesome too
RIP Mr Gossett
R.I.P. Mr Louis Gossett Jr. You will be missed!❤
Rest in power!
I think we all miss Christopher Reeve these days. congrats to LGJ - great performance.
Rest in Peace Louis. He deserved to win!
R.I.P Louis Gossett Jr
Susan Sarandon and Christopher Reeve look great and so youthful
It was hard watching Christopher Reeves knowing what was going to happen to him.
first black man to win the award!
No disrespect to the other nominees, but that was a no-brainer. He was absolutely perfect for that role and just killed it. Unforgettable performance!
I totally agree. His performance is still so memorable 40 years later. He seems like a pretty awesome guy.
David Keith said they became friends eventually when making the movie and Gossett said while he was thrilled to get the Oscar his costar Richard Gere should have been nominated and won and he was disappointed neither happens. Truly a gentleman. He cares more about others than himself and he brought that same element to Foley in the film. That’s why his performance is so special.
Great movie! And he was great too! Amazing acting. I love this movie.
Rest in peace Louis! One of most iconic actors!
Crazy that he died on my birthday. I love his performance in this movie, and other work that he did in his career - a few months ago I watched him in an episode of “Picket Fences” during a first time watch of the series - he was outstanding. Rest in peace, Mr. Gossett. “Walk around, Seeger!!!”
