Thanks so much Carmine! I mostly shoot city street with the old 17-35mm f/2.8. I constantly feel like I’m not taking certain shots because I don’t want to have to stop and swap lens again and again. I couldn’t justify saving for an L series kit just to avoid swapping. This is a perfect option for walking around when the streets are busy.
Thanks Carmine, hunted one of these down on e-bay (UK), early days yet, but some test shots look really promising, a really useful range at a reasonably compact size, yes it's weighty but nothing like my Sigma 24-105, making for a relatively easy carry around on my Canon 6D.
So many great lenses and cameras, so little time. My copy had a bit of dust under the front element. It's pretty easy to get it off and clean it, I've enjoyed it on my 5D, 6D, 40D, and now my R6 II. Have you ever used that old super zoom 35-350?
Thanks for the great tip. I grew up in the film era and have been a slow adopter of digital be cause of the cost. Unlike film cameras, digital gear loses most of its value within a few years. The rush to mirrorless cameras has made full frame SLR's and their lenses quite a bargain. Now I am on the hunt for a 28-135mm IS.
Thanks, Carmine. I've been considering a similar EF-S lens, but hesitant due to the price being a bit higher. I've also been saving to get some full frame gear (maybe a 5D mk II). This helps on both fronts. Thanks for confirming it works on full frame and crop sensor too. I just ordered one and will test it on an upcoming trip.
Hi! Thanks for the review, can I ask you if you believe this can be a good wedding lens to be used with a Canon 6D? I am mostly a video shooter (Panasonic GH5) and photography is mainly a passion: I love vintage lenses, and I can usually take my time to focus and shoot more pics of a given subject, but this is my first autofocus canon lens, and I would like to know what to expect, thanks!
Hello! Thank you for the video. I bought the same one 3 days ago, I'm waiting for the parcel... This is a Canon D5 mark 2 and a Canon EF 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, all together 588 euros, including delivery.
@@CarmineTavernaPhotography Thank you for your answer, you supported me in a difficult moment. The lens arrived, but I haven’t been able to check it yet - the package with the memory card is still on the way. The retractable part of the lens is very loose, I don’t even know what to think... The only consolation is that it’s not too expensive - 135 euro.
Totally sold me on the lens. Just bought a nice copy with filter, caps, and shade for $101 taxes and delivery included. I have a 20-35mm L f2.8 and a 70-200mm L f2.8 but neither are great walking around lenses.
Hey Carmine, I am so confused looking at old Ef canon lenses for my 500 and 7D. Following you here got inspired... But watching "Christopher Frost" channel (tests all kind of lenses) I just do not know what to believe anymore. Frost's channel breaks down every old lens you advice...??? It is like day and knight

@JmartiStudio 70 to 300 would be perfect. You would have wide angle and portrait covered with your 28 to 135 and sports and wildlife covered with the 70 to 300
@@CarmineTavernaPhotography I am doing wedding photography, portraits, products, etc., super versatile, what other lens do I need? Having these, you, who are an expert, can you share your opinion?
@JmartiStudio you need a good quality prime lens with macro ...look gor a 100mm macro good for all purpose and close ups of wedding rings etc...I use the tokina atx pro 100mm
@JmartiStudio When a couple gets married, there are wedding rings. As a wedding photographer, you need a macro, close up lens to take beautiful close up, wedding ring photos. I wish you luck.
Very important, make sure your version says Made in Japan on the front. The newer ones that say Canon Inc are made in China and optically poor performers, I have had both and they are Day and night different. The Made in China versions have Dark and soft corners and have to be stopped down to f11, the Japan version are sharp wide open an no dark corners. I have had 3, sold my 2 Made in China versions after getting the Japan lens.
I had one of these lenses for my 7D and was less than impressed. Maybe I just got a bad copy and/or wasn’t in a position to take advantage of all the lens offered. Might be time to revisit it though as I’m going on a bit of a Canon tear again lol. Used 20 and 30Ds are amazing value for money these days.
Wonderful lens, great review. Thanks!
Your very welcome 🙏
@@KC-in9px no...I would return it...get a different one..different seller as well
This lens lives my daily 5D Mkii !!!
I found this gem at a pawn shop not long ago for $85 and picked it up. It now lives on my 6D2. Its a nice lens for its age!
That first shot with the blue bridge and sky....chromatic abberation is wild!!!
Thanks so much Carmine!

It lives on my 5D classic, used on my EOS 3 film camera as well, its a gem.
I bought this IS/macro/usm lens for my 5Dii at your recommendation. I think that I will be happy with this combo for years to come!
Great to hear!
Fantastic lens, also consider the 28-80 f/3.5-5.6 USM, first version. Tack sharp and another sleeper.

6D + EF 28-135 = perfect solution
A friend of mine just gave me this lens. He hadn't used it in years. It offers great bang for the buck.
Great video.
Is this good on Canon 5D mark III?
Any EF mount lens works with it (EF for full frame, EF-S for crop. EF-S can use EF lenses, but not the other way around)
Thank you sir! This lens works great with my 5DMKIV, & R6MKII
