My go to lens for field botany. Most shots are in the 30-85 mm range but the 18 and 135 occasionally come in handy. Somewhat heavy on a light intro level body, but worth it. Day light in sunny locations works out fine, usually at 5.6 or 8. On some trips I will carry a backup lens that is 2.8 in case I am in shade in a forest or on a dark cloudy day.

Nice video! I’ve got this lens mounted on my Canon R7 with a Meike EF-RF adapter w/VND built in. Affordable, good size for range of reach, and not too heavy. Also accepts PZ-E1 power zoom for video. Very versatile lens for the price.

@@AndyHPhotography That’s funny, I was thinking about getting the 90D so my Ef lenses could go native on it after I dive deeper in the expensive RF territory. Update on the power zoom, it works fine with the side controls, but I think Canon’s software isn’t going to be updated to control the zoom with the remote. Especially since they just came out with the RF 24-105 f1.8 that mounts a zoom motor with remote.

I was about to sell this lens to MPB or KEH because the aperture isn't fast enough for my low-light needs, but decided to take it out for a spin at least twice before giving it up forever. I was surprised to find that I actually love this lens. I rarely shoot with zooms, preferring much faster apertures for most things, but I went to an evening downtown with only this on my camera and no backup lenses only to find that it got awesome images both day and night with the abundance of ambient lights in the city at night. The next day, I took it around my neighborhood and captured some beautiful up-close images of a bumblebee pollinating some wildflowers. All in all, between the ~$112 secondhand gear sites offered me versus the value I think I can get from having this lightweight, versatile lens in my bag, I've decided to keep it.

😅very good user review. I’m off on a tour to China in a few months and working out what to take. My 5d mk 3 and pro lenses are too valuable and very heavy so thinking of this lens, my 7D and EOSM5 with a couple of M series lenses and possibly getting the 18-135 to use with the M adaptor therefore I can cover all options. Think my EF 70-300 mk 2 may be too bulky as I’ll be on the move a lot. That is also very good VFM. I think I paid a crazy £260 for that new from Canon on an offer a few years ago. I will need to update my 7D firmware I believe to use this. Also considering the zoom attachment for smooth video work.
