  • Home Theater Room Riser Buildout
I've had a lot of requests to make a video of a walk-through of the new system installed and setup, here is that video: • Home Theater Room Walk...
The room is 29 ft long by 12.5 ft wide. The platform measured 12 ft long and was built wall to wall. We took out a door that went to the utility room which can be accessed by another door.
The Platform took 35-40 hrs to build. Below are the costs:
    Labor Time: $2400
    Materials: $2500
    Projector: $1500
    4k Projector Screen: $500
Powered Chairs from Sams Club: $2000
    Mini Fridge: $279
The Projector is a BenQ HT3550 4K HDR10. The 150" screen is from Elite Screens on Amazon, it's a Sable II Frame that measures 11.5' wide by 6.5' high.
Click here to Purchase the BenQ Projector: amzn.to/2VH2x5Z
I put sound proof insulation into the platform with two vents on the second level front and two on the back to help pass sound and resolve any vibrations. The ply wood is 1.5" thick to help deaden sound. I hired an electrician to come in and make sure it was wired correctly and to get all the plugs in. I have 4 plugs that have USB charging ports on them.
The sound system is a 7.2 ch Sony Atmos 8 Speaker system. I am installing butt kickers into the chairs next week.
I spent overall around $8-10k on the room doing it myself.. I know many people that spend upwards of 100k doing a theater room, having family help really saved on the cost and doing much of the work myself.
If you have any questions.. feel free to post below!

Or was it to put insulation under the front row as well?. Just asking as I am hoping to start a similar project this year. Thank you.

Just curious why you went with wood vs. carpet for flooring?

    • @MichaelBowes
      @MichaelBowes  5 лет назад +3

I thought it looked really nice.. it's actually vinyl flooring. The platform is 2" plywood with sound proof insulation. I don't think there will be any vibrations, ect. I was going to do laminate or real wood flooring, but I thought that might be too noisy and a laminate floor has to float, so it would have needed sides which could have been a trip hazard.
The vinyl makes it look really good. I could have carpeted.. but again. It just felt more pro doing it this way

    • @MichaelBowes

The insulation helps stop vibrations, being that it is sound proof I found that it helps with sounds a lot better and then providing the vents helps the sound and pressure flow through the platform.

Good job but should have removed the projector from the room before working with wood, lots of trouble with dust in lenses could be avoided !

Awesome video my friend, especially the music.
The music sounded like a Soundtrack from the Games Of Throne.
The Finish Product Was Breathtaking At Best.

did you help them build it? How hard of a job do you think it was? like on a scale of 1-10? thanks so much!!

I didn't help them build it.. I helped with the design. For an experienced builder, it wouldn't be hard to build at all.. for a newbie.. I'd put it at about a 6.

It looks nice. The seat backs are high which will block sound for the rear speakers. Are the seats on the 1/3 lines of the room?
