I am always baffled by these home theatres for exactly the same reasons. Movie experience for me is seeing the film on the largest screen possible. All this money and technology and you confine it to a screen that doesn't seem bigger than 100 inches. When in Cinemascope, it's fine, but I'd have the IMAX ratio with that width and accept the black bars when I'm watching something in Cinemascope.

It's very interesting to see Theo Kalomirakis give a tour of this theater, which I remember being profiled in Home Theater Magazine around the mid-90s. The theater also got a spread in the book, "Theo Kalomirakis' Private Theaters," published in 1997. This book, as well as "Great Escapes," are lovely coffee table books full of these types of high end, themed home theaters. There are some changes I see from the original theater: the carpet in both the lounge and theater area; the seating in the theater; the screen curtain (was red velvet drapes), and the screen itself (original looked to be only 4:3) - no doubt the projector (original surely would've been a CRT), a/v equipment, etc, as well - I also suspect that the LaserDiscs in the library don't get pulled out too often. :) The book also mentions details regarding the motivation for the theater, which by today's privacy standards would probably be too revealing, so enough on that. In current times, at the end of the day, these home theaters are more about the experience and ambiance of the physical environment rather than the A/V performance, as the price/capability/performance equation of the technology has changed so dramatically over the years. Sure, you can pay big bucks for convenience features like having all your media stored on servers, but it's certainly not required in order to have an enjoyable budget home theater.

Sometimes it's good to be one the last people to post. This "theater experience" is by far one of the absolute best I have ever seen. Truly amazing!! Anyone that states otherwise has no experience in high end AV. That is not a small screen with respect to the width of the room. Most likely between 10 -12 feet wide. IN 2012 there really was not many residential projectors that can give an amazing picture if you go larger. Most likely a Runco DLP or Wolf Cinema projector. When you have a row of 4 you cannot have a center seat and that decision was made by an very unselfish person IMO. All those movies are housed on a Kaleidscape server which is the best in the business. Speakers are JBL and perfect for that application they need lots of power so that room gets pretty loud with very clean and clear dialog. You do not need ATMOS when you have high quality speakers amps and preamps in a totally treated room. And it's easy enough to upgrade if they wanted. And yes for sure 1-2 million for that entire experience.

Popcorn machines and carpets and neon lights can come later.

This is a good example of a rich prick who spends all of his money on everything except the things that actually matter in a theater, a good screen, video equipment, sound stage, and audio equipment. His "Beautiful 2.39:1 screen" is underwhelming and small compared to the size of the theater. What were they thinking when putting the TABLES IN THE CENTER? They are missing out on the best seat in the whole room. I don't see any speakers in the whole room except for the front channels, maybe the surround channels are behind the cloth walls or they are using a 3.1 or .2 setup, if not the surrounds are just aimed STRAIGHT and not even positioned towards the viewer, it defeats the whole purpose of surround channels if they aren't positioned correctly. They at least had the idea to line the walls with a somewhat dark material so they would minimize light reflection. Oh also their "ingenious audio cabinet" is from what I can see housing all of the equipment in an unventilated closed area, they are powering those huge fronts with external amps that are placed in a confined and unventilated area! I can't wait until their audio equipment craps out on them for not having a proper rack in another room or at least in a place where a fan can be ventilating the equipment. There is so much more that should be covered but I'm so stunned that someone could allow them to blow so much money on a subpar home theater in a technical aspect which has so much potential to be an awesome experience if money was redirected to the ACTUAL THEATER EXPERIENCE!

This is the most amazing, most beautiful home theater that I've ever seen. One thing that always puzzles me with these high-end theaters, especially considering the amount of money and consultants involved, is why they always place a table in the middle of the row? I guess it's to have somewhere to put your drink, but having worked most of my adult life in a big cinema, the one thing I would make sure to get right, would be center seating.

Fluterra exactly. That’s what I just went off about. It’s not rocket science. Home theater rule #1: where do you want to sit? Home theater rule #2: size the screen for that seat. Other must-dos: dark walls/ceiling/floor. Controlled lighting. Symmetrical speaker layout. Do that and you’ve got a chance. Sit off center and now your view of the image is wonky and you’re off center acoustically too. So dumb.

Judging from all the technical nitpicking in the comments, a lot of people seem to think this theater was designed more for its "look" than for optimal viewing of films...and they may be right. Spending all that $$$ and going to all that trouble, you'd think these people would have considered things like having a center seat in every row, a bigger screen and so forth; but if the point was replicating the whole experience of visiting an old-style movie house as much as watching the movie itself, I can understand it. Wonder if they program trailers, cartoons, advertising snipes and short subjects before each movie?

If I had a home theater, it would be the most basic and inexpensive (and probably unimpressive) theater you would see. I already have projectors, different size screens and a surround sound system. I can get chairs easily and I can build a riser for a back row of seats easily. I would probably cover the walls with theater curtains for decoration and because I’m lazy and don’t feel like painting any walls. All I need is a room and I would build it.
This theater is impressive but...I don’t know man, I may have found one that beats it or at least is on the same level. It doesn’t have the exterior that this theater has or all the awesome lights but the theater itself is pretty awesome with a balcony and a curved 200” screen. Jeff Gibbz Damn, ease up. I grew up in poverty as well, and I agree that in an ideal world, every man, woman, and child would have shelter and food. But you can't say what you would do if you had millions. Do you know why? Because you don't have millions. Money changes people. But go make your millions and I hope you do give it back. But when you do, you still can't tell other people what to do with their money. I bet there's someone out there with no money saying "if I made 1500 a week, I would give most of it to people in need." It's all about perspective. This is a RUclips comment section - don't take it so seriously.

If I ever win the lottery I’d use a small portion of the money to design my own home theater. This one looks so frickin cool.

Depending on the size of the lottery win, I'd fly this guy in to design one for me. This was top spec for 10 years ago and I'd love to see what he's done recently.

I love the art deco and all details. The screen might got bigger by now, 2021. Money can buy all these silly things that make us happy for a while.
