    You make it look easy! 40 years turning a wrench and automatics have always seem like black magic. So I stayed away. I’m retired now but still hobby build stuff and was considering attempting this…

    Awesome! So to be clear, to convert a 4wd to 2wd only pieces I need to change are tail housing and output shaft

    Hey thanks for posting this, it's a really helpful great video. I'm getting ready to do this conversion to the 4x4 trans that came from my LS donor for a swap I did. I just had one question. I was going to do the Sonnax servos when I did this project, from reading about that I will need to adjust the servo pin depth to spec, and from my impression this clearance is dictated by servo pin contact with the band. In this video it looks like you have new servos in the case already, but the band is not installed. I was wondering how you set the clearance without the band, unless I misunderstood how the servos work? I've never built a trans before so that is entirely possibly LOL.

      @HsPerformanceWi  Месяц назад

      @woog74 the servo was installed without the cover o-ring and band travel was checked after assembly off camera with the trans laying down as it would be in the vehicle. Once verified the seals were installed.

      @@HsPerformanceWi Oh OK, TY for the reply. For a minute I was worried I had completely misunderstood the whole servo install process.

    Isn't there a plug in the back of the case you have to remove from the case when you convert to 2wd? Otherwise no lubrication for the rear cone area??

    • @HsPerformanceWi
      @HsPerformanceWi  Месяц назад

      Not on a 4l60e. On the 4l80e however, there is a cup plug that needs to be removed and replaced with one with the proper sized lube oriface.

    Sweet tutorial brother!! How did you get that transmission that clean and prepped for paint?? I'm getting ready to pull a 5.3 and a 4L60E out of a wrecked '03 silverado Z71, and slam it into a '86 Chevy C10 stepside....gonna have to convert the trans to 2wd, wasn't sure how tough it would be but after watching this video I believe I can handle it! A couple of years ago I replaced all of the solenoids and the servo in my 2000 Z71 4L60E so I don't mind getting inside of one!! Thanks man!

      My process is as follows - First I seal the trans up with the plugs shown to keep water and grit out, then steam clean it outside on a pallet to get the bulk of the grime off. After It's stripped down to the bare case it goes in my hot parts washer to get it completely free of oil inside and out before going into the sand blast cabinet to remove the aluminum oxide corrosion (this can also be done with different sizes of wire wheel cups on a drill but is a lot of work and makes a ton of dust in the shop) . After blasting it goes back in the hot parts washer to remove any sandblasting dust, I paint with high temp engine enamel immediately after it comes out of the washer while it's still hot. The biggest thing is getting the corrosion off before paint to make them look decent.

      @@HsPerformanceWi I appreciate the tips! The aluminum oxidation is what I was wondering about, will have to see about media blasting it! Thanks again and will for sure be grabbing some of those plugs before starting on it!

    Outside of the tail housing and output shaft. Do i have to pull the trans to do it . I have a 2001 suburban 4×4 and want to make it 2wd.

      I don't really understand what you are asking, the only differences are the tail and output shaft.
