You make that look easy. I remember the first automatic transmission I rebuilt many years ago, It was a Ford FMX. It took me the better part of a weekend to get it back together to my satisfaction. I kept taking it back apart because I wasn't satisfied with it. But it worked great when I was done.
I worked for WAI rebuilding alternators and starters and my mom worked for New Process Gear making transfer cases and reconditioning every GM transmission. She did about ten a day and I was always amazed at how proficient the 4l60-4l80's came together in a non-OEM environment. Good stuff man!
You make it look so easy. I have a th400, th350, and a 4l60e to build but I don't know a thing about any of them. I like watching your work. I want to learn how to build these transmissions ASAP.
Great video! About to pick up a used transmission, but has a little rust on the spline...is that cleanable? Or would need need to be rebuilt? Or can I just swap out the spline and send it?
Damn he made this look easy and fast. Makes me want to rebuild my 4L60E in my 4th gen Camaro. Except I don't need to thankfully. LOL But defiantly keeping this video in the back of my mind just in case that day comes. : )
The 4l60 are one of the easier trannies to build there's just a few things you need to look for to have a successful build that a lot of people overlook.
@@adamcoxson155 leak where the input shaft is pressed into the drum(this is a big one a lot of builders miss), clearance issue when stacking the 3/4 clutch( manual says between .060 to .086 is good but it's wrong, I usually shoot for .030 to .035 nothing more than that) and always replace that damn check ball valve.
@@adamcoxson155 I see a lot of builders chasing a burned up 3/4 clutch on a "built" 4L60 and not know why this also happened to me when I had a shop build mine, bit of advice no matter how good that input drum and shaft look always press it out and reseat it. They say to use red locktite I use JB weld.
Hello, I have been following you and I admire your beautiful style. My question: I have a 2005 Ford Markris, when the gear is shifted forward, it moves, but backwards, it does not move. What are the reasons? Thank you
I have a 4l60e 4/3 shift packs out. Can I just pull the pump pull 4/3 clutch pack replace the piston seal an clutch’s an slap it back together an be good? I’m a mechanic but I’m not a transmission guy! What do you think? I’m scared to do a full over haul. I just need to get moving again. I have 1/2 feels like 3rd still kinda work as long as you don’t floor it I’m anticipating the shift an lofting a little. Watched your hole video 👍 makes me wanna try! Not buy another used out that’s going to do this or worse.
Jus subscribed. I have a 1994 Chevy impala SS 12:16 & I ruined my transmission..30 year old well maintained transmission mission that I destroyed going fast for Several miles. I know it’s a non pwm & had the tune delete the pwm. I wound up with a junkyard pwm transmission. I replaced the valve body with a pwm block from sonnax & im stacking the 3-4 with these true blue high performance accumulators. My question is… with the 1-2 accumulator do I have the Spring on the outside against the valve body separate plate or do I put them in the accumulator case themselves? I’m new to transmissions & I simply do not trust people that do not know the old school style transmission. Thank you for sharing & any heads up would be sincerely appreciated. Regardless god bless & rock on 😎
I'm up in the air on a rebuild, I have a 91 Cadillac Brougham... with a bad tranny... but I'm still contemplating... I may just replace or take it to a shop...
I have a question you could answer. The captured checkball in the case where the valvebody goes is missing. Is it the same size as the other chekballs?
WHOA !!!! STOP...Boys and Girls. That was NOT grease... NEVER EVER use grease to assemble a transmission. This is assembly lube. He should have NEVER called it grease. And by the way, while W.I.T. is a good source for transmission parts, STAY AWAY FROM THEIR DYNAMIC converters. They also have another sub standard brand. ALWAYS use Precision converters, you'll thank me later.
