Excellent video! We used to do plenty of radiators, back then they were brass tanks and we were just weld them and put them back in. Industry got smart. 😁

      Yep, they sure did
I remember getting one fixed myself back then.
Now, it's just replace instead of fix.

A Ford Exploder with a manual tranny? Boy that is one rare bird. Looks like you keep things nice and clean under the hood.

      Thanks, Wayback
I try to keep her clean, this is the 3rd Explorer that I've owned, and my favorite with 2 doors and the manual transmission. The previous two had 4 doors and were automatics. They actually made a few of them with the manual transmission back in the 90s.
Yep, the manual transmission kinda died, people dont want to shift anymore, lol.

Plastic radiators, you have to love them. The radiator in my 1973 F100 is the original brass cored radiator. Never been out.
In the last year I have replaced the plastic radiators in my wife Lexus and my Prius.

Nice job Whip! Saved yourself mucho dinero. Seems you may have known about how to remove the fan and tools required. If AZ loans them, sounds good. Do u think possible to remove shroud without removing fan? Nice having no cooler lines to mess with. Watched the whole vid, so it must have been good. And yes lucky close to home, so overheating heads not an issue. 👍

      Thanks, faxmen09👍 !
Ive used AutoZone loaner tools in the past, I had to replace the fan clutch a couple of years ago. I ended up buying these wrenches because they were not that expensive and with a vehicle this old I'll probably be using them again, lol.
Not enough room between the radiator and fan blades to sneak the shroud by, so the fan has to come off at the same time., at least with mine that's the way it is. Take care.

@@WhipCityWrencher Yeah I figured if u could have removed the shroud without fan u would have. One more question. Possible to remove shroud, pull back and rest on fan assembly or hook to something, then remove radiator? Just curious.

@@faxmen09 I just went out and took a look at it, and you might be right. I can't say for sure because the radiator has to go a little towards the engine and then up to remove it but there might be enough space to remove it.
If I ever have to do this job again I'll try it. Thanks👍😊!

@@WhipCityWrencher No problem, just like to consider options that 'might' save some time. Hopefully u won't have to do this one again anytime in the near future.

I have a 2000 explorer 5.0. is my AC evaporator coil attached to the front part of my radiator? Or will it stay the same as your motor without me having to remove it with the radiator?

    • @WhipCityWrencher
      @WhipCityWrencher  6 месяцев назад +1

I have AC too, but It should be basically the same except if you have an automatic transmission you'll have to disconnect the tranny lines. I have a Manual transmission, No transmission lines on my radiator.
