This is one of the greatest songs ever written. It is impossible for me to hear this song and not get an emotional response. Steven Tyler's voice sounded a little different in those early days.

Yes, well, over the years with all of the loud singing and the loud scream he sometimes does along with the abuse to the body that he used to do, it's changed his voice to not as clear, but rougher... but that's okay, it suits him too. : )

    • @RossIsFine

All that screaming changed his vocals. Same thing happens to all singers if you scratch your vocal cords like that. Worst is those whistles, like Mariah Carey. She's known for it ans now suffers from it.

Steven Tyler wrote this song when he was 16 and it never got played until Aerosmith needed a last song for the album that they were making so Steven said that he had written a song years earlier but he never really finished it completely so he and the band completed the song with less than a day and it has turned out to one of their greatest songs.

"Dream On" was first played live in Mansfield, Connecticut, at the Shaboo Inn.[6][unreliable source] In a 2011 interview, Tyler reminisced about his father, a Juilliard-trained musician. He recalled lying beneath his dad's piano as a three-year-old listening to him play classical music. "That's where I got that Dream On chordage", he said. Lyrical composition was completed when Steven was 14 years old.[7]

What I love about this song is that it’s not monotonous. Lots of interesting chord changes, tempo changes, key changes. It’s a very musically complex song and he uses his voice as an instrument. The fact that he wrote this at age 17 snd had such musical maturity at that age is amazing. It’s one reason I don’t care for a lot of todays music cuz it’s over produced and is super predictable and not complex at all.

They severely resented MTV and having to put a “Cartoon” to their music. I actually like their 80s stuff along with early stuff. Don’t be fooled. They were not clean in the 80s. I’ve seen them more times than I can recall. They were not clean most of the time. Now in the 2000s. Yes. But Steven especially was very sporadic. I don’t think the songwriting suffered. A successful band adapts to current music trends. They made history with Run DMC. Even today in his 70s, Steven delivers every time with the band and solo.

Saw them for the first of ten times right after Toys In The Attic came out in 1975 and the last time in 2001. No doubt Steven Tyler's voice underwent some changes in that time. He did not have an easy life, and it shows. But the early days were magical.

One more thing... Asia, you look extremely beautiful in this video. Not that you don't always look great, you just have that glow/it factor in this one.
You & BJ are both blessed with great looks. Stay true, selfless and honest! ❤️🙏✌️🤘🏼

No one has quite captured the greatness of Aerosmith's "Dream On" performance, however the group Post Modern Jukebox along with Morgan James have given it a run for its money with this cover. ruclips.net/video/Yq4KA0mUnC8/видео.html. Give it a listen even if you don't react to it, it's excellent.

Steven Tyler wrote this song as a teenager way before Aerosmith came long. I've seen some concert footage were Tyler is playing a white grand piano & Joe Perry is playing his guitar solo on top of the piano, so lit.

The lines in the mirror, part if the song. Listen closely it is a sniffing sound. As in cocaine on the mirror. This is most definitely one Aerosmiths best. Check out their album Live Bootleg, it is a live mix of cover tunes and original songs. Possibly their best work recorded in my opinion(and many other people who lived in the 1970's).

The song starts off “every time that I look in the mirror, all these lines on my face getting clearer, and you hear the inhale. Next line is “the past is gone. Oh, it went by like dusk to dawn, isn’t that the way, everybody’s got their dues in life to pay”. The lines on his face is the coke on the mirror getting clearer as he is snorting them. He is watching time passing from dusk to dawn because of his coke habit and this is the due he is paying.

The other Aerosmith song you probably heard sampled was walk this way, run dmc and Aerosmith did a remake of this old Aerosmith song in the late 80’s and someone on here said they made their comeback in the 90’s but it was mid to late 80’s

Aerosmith is my favorite Rocking Roll band and trust me there's a bunch but it's just something about Joe Perry and Steven Taylor when them 2 gets there writing on damn it's truly amazing and I'm not judging Steven Taylor but when they wrote this song he was very much on heroine so bad evevally he really had lost everything but he came back with advangence and got all his materials things back but he got all the respect back from his band and his family and all of the fans and I just think his story is truly amazing and the loyalty that his band had for him truly unbelievable Much Love to Aerosmith and I love all yalls reactions

A few people already commented, the Eminem song is "Sing For The Moment". Eminem samples the instrumental and Steven Tyler's vocals and Joe Perry of Aerosmith actually plays a guitar solo at the end of Eminem's song.
