    Similar thing happened in the city I’m studying in, a man drove a pickup truck over the curb and ran over a Muslim family of 5, only the youngest child aged 9 survived. It was a premeditated hate crime, he targeted the family out of hate for their religious beliefs. I don't blame the mother for saying no (idk if she changes her mind later or something)
    After a very unstable and racist man does that to her daughter? And so many other people? Gosh, the anger you would feel inside and the need to be able to have some control back after having no chance of saving her daughters life.
    If she has no say in who gets a piece of her daughter, then I'd feel that anger resurfacing too. That's the kind of emotional trauma that'll take years of therapy and grief for her to feel somewhat in control again.
    Just a horrible situation. I couldn't dream of how I'd feel if something like that happened to me, plus I am white so it would never be as close to the pain that mother would feel.
    And yeah, I know that this is a scripted show, but this kind of thing does happen and the show does a good job in showing how far a mothers grief and anger can go. Let alone the anger a POC would feel in that situation... Thanks Chicago Med for showing things like this to people so that more people understand what can happen when racists decide to act on their unfounded hatred.
    Edit: Thank you everyone who has replied without getting mad at someone else's views of morality. It's through discussion that we can all learn just a little more. And again, as a white person myself, remember that the mother is black and has years of ethnic abuse already implanted in her, and that there is no real 'yes' or 'no' answer to how she should react.
    Thank you all again for being polite and respectful in my replies

    It's a real moral dilemma deciding whether to donate organs or not I can understand the mother's wish for the organs to not go to people who are not racist and undeserving like the man who drove the truck. But you can also picture possible situations where the organs would go to "good" people (thus saving their life). So it would be a really hard decision and one which she should never have to make.

    • @estebanpineros9409
      @estebanpineros9409 11 месяцев назад +3

      The one thing I didn't like was that scene, because (although I may have misunderstood this), I think she said she wanted her daughter's organs going exvlusively to black people, and when she found out that's not how it worked, she decided against it, because anyone not black could be a racist in her mind. I get she wad going through an incredible trauma, but hatred and discrimination like that is the reason people commit heinous acts, like what happened to her daughter. Imagine a white mom had a daughter hurt by a black man, and she said that she'd only consent to organ donation if it went to white people, because other black people could be just as bad as the one that did this. It's the exact same scenario, and it propagared hatred and mistrust based solely on race, which is the definition of racism. (Edit was for spelling errors).

    Tragedies and crises really do bring out both the best and the worst in humanity. People are driven to the height of either selflessness or selfishness.
    Seeing the dichotomy between the hateful, awful driver. Then the selfless, helpful bystanders not hesitating to help the injured is great.
    It also shows the bystander effect in critical detail, and it tells you what to do if you see it.
    When something horrible happens, most bystanders want to help, but it’s so outside of the norm they don’t know what to do. But all they need is someone to step up and tell the what to do to help, and they help. You see this everywhere the bysatnder effect takes place, all it takes is one person to break the ‘trance’ and do something and then everyone else immediately follows. Everyone in that cafe knew what happened and were empathetic and wanted to help, they just didn’t know what to do. As soon as Natalie came in and said “do this to help” they jumped to do it immediately.
    If you take something away from this, if you are one of the few who are immune/resistant to the Bystander Effect, take charge in crises, even temporarily. If you run into a situation and direct, people will follow when you break that first barrier.

    But here they show you how even in such a horrible scenario, good people can appear, firefighters, doctors, paramedics, even ordinary civilians who saw something bad happening and decided to help, all willing to lend a hand for people they don't even know but that they needed it.

Those countries are well over 90% Asian and black respectively.
      No, no, no... the majority of racists that your media FOCUSSES on are white people. Hell, you're even incorrect in that the majority race is white... it's Han Chinese (19% of the world's TOTAL population, with China's population being 91.11% comprised of them) that is the single largest ethnic group. Today, white people account for roughly 6.5% of the total world population. Nothing to sneeze at, mind you. But they're far from the majority race.
