TheBloodMango I think the Miata would hold its own against the two on a track day. I’m thinking the Miata will have a higher cornering speed and brake deeper. Of course the Miata will need a track day alighnment, track brake pads, braided brake lines, DOT5 brake fluid, re-flash the ECU with a track day tune and track day tires. The type track is going to determine the winner. Road courses with long straights will benefit the Z’s but tight twisty tracks will be the Miatas bread and butter! The Z’s wouldn’t stand a chance on a Autocross track of setup properly with good tires!
owning both a 350z and Miata track cars, depending on the track, the Miata with good tires, suspension and brakes is tough to beat.....add a turbo......Beast.
This entire series is just telling you to go in between High and low. Id imagine in almost every case, even a few steps up from the low. The big issues would mostly be addressed, and the price wouldn't be absolute insanity.
there's a point in which most of the things that are halfway between hi and low are actually pretty good. you get pretty much the same as with something expensive but at a lower price kinda like how the midsize combo of burger gets you almost the same amount of food as the big combo
It'd be super sick that by the end of this series, you guys did a huge checklist of all the parts and summarize if you felt that going high, middle, or low was the most worthwhile.
I love the series you guys should do a like a “up to speed” on what parts are worth it and what parts aren’t. Like just give like a quick recap on the reasoning why on everything you have done.
Does anyone else notice the Hi car host, James, is using the premium earbuds and the Lo Car host, Nolan, is using lower cost earbuds? Probably not a coincidence.
4:29 it works the opposite way actually. Mounting on the furthest holes gives the car more leverage working against the bar. Closest hole makes the car's roll have less leverage, thus allowing the bar to fight back with its stiffness. The stiffest setting is closer to the bar. Envision using your hand to pull that bar apart from the furthest out vs closest in how much force it would take, the bar is stiffer closer in.
@@jp7136 They also got the part about the purpose of adjustable sway bar links a bit wonky as well. They are not adjustable so you can "mount them away from other things in the way", you do it so you can adjust out pre-load. With driver in seat car sitting on suspension you want the bar to have no preset bind/pre-load on it caused by the endlinks. You adjust so the 2nd side can slot into the hole effortlessly (or you're supposed to at least).
AstroTools you can also use them to preload the suspension if you are ruining on an oval. It can help to get some tilt in the car to help in the turns.
I know a couple of people have already mentioned "mid" car, but I would wait till the end of the series. Use what you have learned and then do a mid car then compare all final cost and your lap times etc. Would probably be the best thing anyone has ever done for the diy guys.
4:30 isn´t it the outher way round? More leverage = "softer" setup, softer rear, less oversteer less leverager = "harder" setup, harder rear more oversteer same with the front, but with understeer
Came here to say this too. They got the example right with the drift car, they just reversed the setting explanation on the bar. The holes closer to the center of the bar will be the stiffer setting.
Yeah but do the slalom 6 times and pretend each run is half a sector of a small club track and suddenly its almost a second difference a lap. Which is huge.
I noticed that derp time on low car also. Also there is no good way to test which is better suspension because the cars are are not the same. They have different HP, different tires, and different weights. That being said after you curb low car's time for James being retardedly slow in Low Car in comparison the cars are pretty close.

Next up, high-end coilovers. Example off-the-shelf Bilstein aluminum race shock body, valved custom to your spec. You get even more body/roll control but with infinitely better compliance. RR tracks are no longer a nightmare. They can save rim on a pothole or bad bit of road. The give on fast hits and are extra firm on slow. You're looking for shocks that use multi-speed valve stacks like motocross shocks. They should be completely rebuildable/serviceable/revalveable. I have a totally built '07 Z06 (8.2 liter). Of all the things I've done, the coilovers made the most difference. Transformed the car. More solid and more comfortable (a lot) at once. The car is just so composed on them. Traction on a broken/choppy surface way up, too. Delrin bushings are very worthwhile as well.
There is a cheap option for adjusting toe in the rear, it's the SPL eccentric bolts. You get different cams and drill out the bolt holes on the spring perch with the provided diagram.

I'm so glad Donut is back to posting regularly. I can't wait to hear James and Nolan's banter in Dirt 5!
Am I the only one who is thinking, "Hey Guys! Chrisfix here!"
"Just spray some soappy Wodder"
Loving this series donut is the perfect day after the meet hungover show
The caption timing is off cause u didnt count for the ad section
Yup last time a sponsor pulled out last sec i guess or something and they captioned it and it was all off still
Also google doesnt let you just slide all of the captions over you have to adjust every single stanza individually i actually volunteered to do that episode but it was like 2mins worth of footage for every 30mins worth of work and it was my first time doing it
"Invoice me for the paint" 2020 comedy gold his face afterwards is meme worthy
soon you guys should give the cars a 0-100-0 test, and use James's golf for a baseline.
You should switch up the teams for HiLo seasons 2, I’m starting to feel a little bad for Nolan and Aaron
Tanner out here lookin like Jaqen H'ghar from Game of Thrones. Jaqen H'car
"A car has no alignment"
my brain kept telling me the man looked familiar
Nolan: "Feel good about the meat you're eating!"
this line is gonna make me turn into a vegan
5:55 he missed his shot with “out with the old, and in with the new”
Chrisfix would be disappointed
Chrisfix is too wholesome to be disappointed
“Did we tighten everything?” Always the first question after a clunk.
These guys are my favorite people of all time. I don't even talk to my family anymore. I just watch these videos.
I bet Nolan had to buy that cutting board for the ad, it looks like he doesn’t even have a kitchen table 😂 Come on Donut!
anyone else notice that the captions are having a stroke lol.
Looks like the captions just aren’t accounting for the ad spot at the beginning for some reason
Nolan and james: talks about suspension hight
Also nolan and james 0.0001 sec later starts talking about meat
There is a cheap option for adjusting toe in the rear, it's the SPL eccentric bolts. You get different cams and drill out the bolt holes on the spring perch with the provided diagram.
