Btw, the third vid that's set up for passenger side driving is a very common mod setup for rural mail carriers who have to drive their own vehicles on their mail routes. Usually old jeeps or other small SUVs.
The right hand drive conversion kit is used for postal services in areas that don’t have the need for a fleet of mail trucks. A lot of places have special ordered trucks that come rhd but this is the cheaper option and it works well 4:05
4:00 I've actually seen one of these IN USE! A lot of the USPS offices out in the sticks in the US use regular commuter vehicles modified like this so when your delivering mail the driver side is right next to the mail box which makes it easier for the driver to deliver mail. The more you know!
When I was a kid, our mail carrier had a personal Jeep he owned modified this way, except a lot cleaner. There were no visible belts or poles, but you could clearly see the two steering wheels were linked because as one turned, so did the other. I assume it was done behind the dashboard by a professional company. I was told by other people that some Driver's Ed cars were also modified this way so that the instructor could take over if necessary from the passenger side.
The steering wheel repositioning thing is more common than you think. In rural areas, the postal people have to use their own vehicles to deliver mail so they would do this to be able to put the letters in the mailbox that's always on one side of the road. I repaired a 16 escape with this exact setup.
@asianmanfromasia I think it's all of the foreign cars that have that option because this area had a Subaru outback with rhd, but all of the American car companies were lhd converted to rhd
technically it was called aluminum before it was renamed to aluminium; it was discovered back when the -inum suffix was used, then the rest of the world started using the new way of -inium
@@CorvusCorone68 I've always called it "aluminum"... ngl, though; "alumininium" always gives me a little chuckle and sounds more "scientific-like"... 🙃
@3:55 is how I deliver mail in the mountains every day. It's cheaper than buying a right side drive & importing it & it makes delivering mail to mountain communities possible since standard mail trucks (LLV's) cannot ever go off pavement... They can barely move on the pavement as it is.
The mod at 3:50 is used in rural areas to modify vehicles for mail delivery in the US. Smaller post offices can't always maintain their own fleet of USPS vehicles, so they hire locals who are willing to use their own vehicles. To streamline the delivery process, the drivers use that mod so they can reach the mailbox without getting out of the car. You do lose the airbag, but it's still safe for the low speeds involved in delivery.
For the same reason the German Post Office ("Bundespost") used VW Beetles with right hand steering in Germany in the 60s and 70s: so that the mail delivery person did not had to step on the street into traffic wile delivering mail. But they where VW Beetles originally built for GB export, so properly built for right hand drive at the factory. I bought such a car at a Deutsche Post auction when the cars were retired in the 80s ... for about 300 DM if I recall correctly. Not much for a properly maintained car even back in the day. Was my first car.

That’s basically the setup used in a lot of rural route mail cars in the US. They’re old American cars never made in rhd, so they convert them like that. 4:02
But why though? Does it matter what side drive the mail vehicle is? I'm from the UK, and the Royal Mail will park his van up on an estate, get out with the mail for that area, walk around and deliver the post and then get back in the van and move on. At what point does the side of the steering wheel come into that? The Royal Mail vans could all be LHD it doesn't impact their job at all. And another thing, wouldn't you want LHD cars in the US? Isn't that how your infrastructure is designed around??

The steering wheel belt mod is common in America for mail carriers who are using their private vehicle so that they do not have to get out to put mail into the mailboxes
It'd be safe enough if you disconnect the frontal airbags or if its on one not equipped with airbags honestly but I'd be worried about the belt slipping
The steering/pedal mod (#3) is very common in rural areas for postal delivery. There are kits available and it's a standard thing the post office uses. I'm looking at getting part time work at our local post office and they suggested I get a kit to convert my truck to right hand drive so I can run delivery routes. Standard operating procedure.
The wheel and pulley system is mainly for postal workers who do rural work. They don’t have many right hand vehicles around the United States especially if you’re not a city worker. My mom uses this daily in her jeep. I’ve actually installed one in her first jeep 😂

4:30 the reason the car is right hand steering is, its a mail vehicle, they have to be able to put the mail into the boxes from the right side of the car to go with and not against traffic :)
I don't feel like that'd be cause to jerry rig a swapover like that. It'd be a hell of a lot easier to just get an import that's already configured on the right side than it would be to rig all of that up to just deliver the mail. It's actually also happened in the past. The US has ordered bulk Japanese made Subaru's specifically for the USPS. So again, it could be that, but I just highly doubt it because the USPS is a federally regulated body.
@@steeljawX it's not an opinion dude. I literally wave to my mailman everyday, driving a old jeep with one of these kits. Not all post office drivers get usps vehicles. I know some who rent uhaul trucks temporarily if their vehicle goes out. It's not an opinion. It's cheaper to install a 200$ steering kit than it is to pay 2k for import fees alone. Not to mention the fact we're 20 hours from the nearest port...
I just want to add that I am a current Rural Carrier for the USPS and the kit shown in the video is a legit RHD conversion kit. For anyone that wants, just google "rhd conversion kit" and look at the images. There's nothing weird or wrong going on here.

Vredestein is actually pronounced more like the way you guys pronounce "Fray". So it's like "Fray The Stein", not "Vre" as in "fre-ckle". In Dutch when a vowel is followed by a single consonant, the vowel in pronounced like a "long" variant. It's hard to explain... But the pronunciation for a vowel is different because of that. Like I mentioned before. It's like the "e" in freckle compared to the "a" in fray.
I was wondering how I was going to explain this subtle difference in pronunciation, but you already did it really well. Still, props to Justin for doing as good a pronunciation as he did. Far better than I expected
I’ve been watching Marty and moog since the OG videos installing an iPad in place of the radio. “Always remember to Jack up your car”. This is the All Star collab right here guys. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
That STUTTUTUTU sound is compressed air from the charge pipes slamming into the back of the compressor wheel and exiting the turbo inlet. It will help to destroy the compressor wheel faster.
I love this so much!! MCM has been a favorite for so very long! And now with Donut... SO GOOD!! I really enjoy when the community comes together and supports each other! Such a fun video!!
This is the second comment I see with this so I'm gonna ask a potentially stupid question - why would a mail carrier vehicle be any different in terms of where the steering wheel is located? I live in a country where steering wheels are on the left, no matter the vehicle so I genuinely have no clue, so I'm curious.
3:49 - That is an actual right hand drive conversion kit, used for converting vehicles in the US for use on postal (mail) routes. This, along with importing RHD wagons and SUVs from Japan, is common with rural mail carriers. Fun Fact: From 1989 to 1999, Subaru of America built RHD Legacy wagons for use as rural mail vehicles.
Truck that’s all high in the back is a throw back to 1970-75 called Jacked-up. It was done on fast, loud cars for no real reason at all. It was the opposite of a Gasser. The guy rolling rear fender was using a metal T post pounder used for putting T posts in the ground for fencing and of course rolling fenders poorly. 😂😂
The makeshift steering wheel/pedal assembly thing is for mail carriers. When they have to use their personal vehicles to deliver mail, sometimes they install that kit. Ive driven one like that before
Exhaust Can: My wife and I ran some old bikes down to the beach (couple hundred miles, about 7 hours). Mid-trip my bike's header rusted through just in front of the exhaust and I had to finish the ride trying to keep the muffler tip from scraping the ground in the curves. That night, I sent my wife to buy two beers. We drained the cans. Then we cut open the cans with sheers. Cut out the ends. Strapped them onto my exhaust and rode it home a couple hundred miles. We used Foster's Beer because it felt like the thickest can on the shelf.
I’m so glad Jer brought up the card in the spokes trick. My friends and I used to use paper folded up and wrapped in duct tape and it was way louder than a card and lasted a while. It was awesome
The car with the belt added right hand drive is for rural route (middle of nowhere south) mail delivery. My powt office has three people with this conversion done to their cars so they can deliver mail without a mail truck.
That conversion from left to right hand drive is mostly used for people that need to use a personal vehicle when delivering mail for the post office. My mom had to do that for a while because they had a shortage of mail trucks
Funnily enough a lot of rural mail trucks in my area have those right hand drive pulley kits. They actually do have a selling purpose for rural mail areas.
So the right hand drove conversion is super popular for USPS mail carriers. Some rural routes provide their own vehicle and it needs to be right hand drive to service mail boxes.
the steering wheel and pedal extensions are popular among postal workers in rural areas since they’re delivering in a normal vehicle instead of the traditional mailvan. Some drivers even gone as far as purchasing right hand drive vehicles, jeeps are being the more popular choice for RHD.
16:35 is called the evrymod, used on diesels with mechanical pumps like the Volkswagen VE engines. you get a potentiometer and wire it into the plug for the fuel pump and turning the pot up tricks the pump into dumping more fuel. on a 1.9SDI you can get a bit more of a kick out of the 64HP engine haha don't turn it up too much though as it'll stall haha
Those right hand drive conversion kits are common in the USPS. In many places rural carriers have to use their own personal vehicles to deliver mail, so the get these kits to be able to drive up to each mail box and not have to get out of the car every time they stop to deliver
Moog... we need more collabs with Moog. And Sandro. And Adam. And lots. Hell put them all in some kind of special episode like a TG Special! I'd watch the hell out of that and might even buy it!
These types of super basic right hand drive conversions are super common in the USA with mail carriers. Dedicated right hand drive vehicles have special parts compared to the left hand drive models. This way they can get common fixes easily, but still reach out the right window for the mailbox.
I used to have a ford aspire. I put spring clamps on it and like a 6 inch resonator tip on it. Sounded great but was hilarious when you hear a tuner car coming and see this pull up. And yes, I had 2 pioneer 12inch subs in the back. Wife used to say it was aspiring to be a real car.
The steering wheel and peddles put in the left is for USPS drives. I had to service a Subaru like this when I was an auto technician for Subaru and it was pretty legit and served a practical purpose.
The steering wheel side-switch is an actual functional mod used by rural mail carriers (they usually drive privately-owned-vehicles) and they have to drive and deliver the mail at the same time; on the right side because mail boxes are on the right side of the road (nothing our Aussie buddies would know anything about).
@4:00 is a mail truck conversion. Mail vehicles are required to be RHD and in rural areas is BYOC bring your own car lol thus the sketchy RHD conversion.
5:36 they have been doing this with lorries and trucks in Brazil recently. it's not only ridiculous but also super dangerous because it completely blocks the visibility of people behind
4:00 i grew up outside of a small town and the mail carriers that didn't have a USPS mail truck used these. lady in a red jeep used to deliver our mail
The right hand drive I’ve seen done with similar kits in US is for postal delivery guys in unincorporated counties where they subcontract mail delivery and don’t provide a mail truck…
Let's stop for a moment. The car mod moving the steering wheel and pedals to the opposite side of the car is MORE COMMON than you think. Farmland mail carriers in the Midwest don't have government-funded mail carrier vehicles and have to resort to junkers or Craigslist rejects, and you'll see a lot of them driving while sitting on the right-side of the car (for better access of mailboxes). Most of them are crazy, and drive without such expensive modifications.
I have Vredestein tires on all three of my cars and love them. Got them because of Tire Rack and the wet and dry performance is excellent, and they last a long time.
This was great. As an Aussie, I can't stand listening to ocker Aussie's for a full vid. This was the perfect blend! Come back to Aus for a road trip to the NT or Tassie and join MCM 🤙
The “custom” right hand drive maybe used for mail cars but more than likely it’s for cruiser car racing really common to use a belt or a bike sprocket and bike chain

The steering wheel right hand drive set up is quite common in the south for rural mail carriers. Cheaper to do that than find a right hand drive vehicle.

I’ve been watching Marty and moog since the OG videos installing an iPad in place of the radio. “Always remember to Jack up your car”. This is the All Star collab right here guys. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was watching car mod vids back when they put leaf blowers on for supercharger, shit was hilarious 😂
0:11 That's more positive camber than Jeremy Clarkson's knees! 🤣
The collab we all needed, massive fan of MCM and Donut, this video was perfect ❤
The 3rd video could be a mail carrier vehicle. A lot of subcontractors do those kind of mods to be on the right side for delivering mail.
Drivers Ed cars are set up like that too
This is the second comment I see with this so I'm gonna ask a potentially stupid question - why would a mail carrier vehicle be any different in terms of where the steering wheel is located? I live in a country where steering wheels are on the left, no matter the vehicle so I genuinely have no clue, so I'm curious.
@@rosaliepostsstuffit's so they can drive on the shoulder in rural areas and put mail in the mailboxes without getting out of the car
@@scottmalcolmson4584 Thank you!
2 GOAT car channels, love to see the collab
4:20 it’s to deliver mail!!!
One of the best collabs of all time!! Glad to see MCM hanging with friends over the pond.
Audi quote @8:06, priceless 😂
At my shop the saying is "you Audi know better".
Great to see Mighty Car Mods and Donut together, hope to see some friendly competitions in the future.
The collab we all needed. Marty and Moog are legends
why did I find this just now?! I love MCM and the donut boys
What an awesome collab
I put one on my 8 year old daughter's bike last week! She loved it.
I kind of hope the deal at 15:25 was that the hose split, and they put in the screw afterwards for the funnies. I *hope*...
The car with the belt added right hand drive is for rural route (middle of nowhere south) mail delivery. My powt office has three people with this conversion done to their cars so they can deliver mail without a mail truck.
11:20 That muffler looks great behind the Miata.
A fellow man of culture
That conversion from left to right hand drive is mostly used for people that need to use a personal vehicle when delivering mail for the post office. My mom had to do that for a while because they had a shortage of mail trucks
Funnily enough a lot of rural mail trucks in my area have those right hand drive pulley kits. They actually do have a selling purpose for rural mail areas.
So the right hand drove conversion is super popular for USPS mail carriers. Some rural routes provide their own vehicle and it needs to be right hand drive to service mail boxes.
My Uncle was building " Bro- Dozers" over 50 years ago for local residents to get in and out of their properties when their roads flooded.
the steering wheel and pedal extensions are popular among postal workers in rural areas since they’re delivering in a normal vehicle instead of the traditional mailvan. Some drivers even gone as far as purchasing right hand drive vehicles, jeeps are being the more popular choice for RHD.
16:35 is called the evrymod, used on diesels with mechanical pumps like the Volkswagen VE engines. you get a potentiometer and wire it into the plug for the fuel pump and turning the pot up tricks the pump into dumping more fuel. on a 1.9SDI you can get a bit more of a kick out of the 64HP engine haha
don't turn it up too much though as it'll stall haha
Those right hand drive conversion kits are common in the USPS. In many places rural carriers have to use their own personal vehicles to deliver mail, so the get these kits to be able to drive up to each mail box and not have to get out of the car every time they stop to deliver
Moog... we need more collabs with Moog. And Sandro. And Adam. And lots. Hell put them all in some kind of special episode like a TG Special! I'd watch the hell out of that and might even buy it!
2 of the best car channels doing a collaboration. Love it, can't wait to see more.
The guys that got me into modding cars, with the guys who keep me motivated to keep modding cars.
This is Unreal....!
The guy "rolling" the fender was using a fence post driver.
4:05 is a very common thing in Vermont where people do this to deliver mail on the crappy dirt roads
Happy to see this collab
Let's stop for a moment. The car mod moving the steering wheel and pedals to the opposite side of the car is MORE COMMON than you think.
Farmland mail carriers in the Midwest don't have government-funded mail carrier vehicles and have to resort to junkers or Craigslist rejects, and you'll see a lot of them driving while sitting on the right-side of the car (for better access of mailboxes). Most of them are crazy, and drive without such expensive modifications.
I loved to see this collab, bunch of great dudes who love cars and are passionate about it!
I've seen quite a few of the pulley setups for converting old jeeps or blazers to mail vehicles for rural areas
Best collab! Hope there's some full videos from the garage coming too!
I have Vredestein tires on all three of my cars and love them. Got them because of Tire Rack and the wet and dry performance is excellent, and they last a long time.
I’ve got an 06 Holden rodeo. The exhaust couldn’t stay stock because it’s a v6 so it’s a straight pipe that chucks an engine light.
This was great. As an Aussie, I can't stand listening to ocker Aussie's for a full vid. This was the perfect blend! Come back to Aus for a road trip to the NT or Tassie and join MCM 🤙
The pulley steering would be pretty cool for mail carriers who don't want to drive a jeep
The “custom” right hand drive maybe used for mail cars but more than likely it’s for cruiser car racing really common to use a belt or a bike sprocket and bike chain
I absolutely love all your content. I noticed in this video the bitrate was a bit down and looked fuzzy even at 1440p and higher. Just a technical detail I noticed and idk if the camera you used had to be slightly lower quality because ya'll were traveling. LOVE THIS EPISODE!!!!!!!!!!!
The steering wheel right hand drive set up is quite common in the south for rural mail carriers. Cheaper to do that than find a right hand drive vehicle.
Imma be that guy, the video about the steering wheel on the right hand drive conversion, after getting a job at the post office and needing a vehicle to deliver mail, those right hand drive conversions are really common! Normally on mini vans like the Toyota sienna, dodge caravan, and Nissan quest
