Javagal Srinath is the only fast bowler in Indian cricketing history who has been a part of the playing eleven for 4 consecutive World Cups. He was also one of those players because of whom India reached the finals of the 2003 World Cup. I remember shaking hands with him in Indore on 24 December 1997, after nets. I was 8 then, but he lovingly said “thank you ji” to ALL his fans individually after signing autographs. Gentle giant! 💓

I am a Bangladeshi who was a India cricket team fan since I was a kid. OMG between like 1994-2000, the whole Batting order was depended on Sachin and the whole Bowling order was depended on Srinath and Kumble. Pretty much if these three people werent in the action, the team would suffer. The team became way more versatile in the 2000s. Thank God! But I always appreciate these 3 people for carrying the team for almost half a decade. :)

Fact most now a days tell zaheer s the best fast bowler from India but srinath was the best recently even pollock told srinath didn’t get enough appreciation for his accolades to carry a nations fast bowling department for more than decade alone with out much support is not a mere feat 8/86 v pak 5/47 v pak 6/21 v sa 150 plus fast deliveries he was an all out package he could have got more wickets had India’s fielding in slips was good ...was a gentle man too to a certain extent presence of Prabhakar in Indian team didn’t allow him to play in the 11 in india ...

Seriously most underrated legendary player of India. Natural in cutters to right hand batsmen. Served Indian bowling attack for more than a decade. I have seen him taking Andrew Hudson wicket almost every time in the 1st over itself in a series against SA through his in cutters. I wish he joins some post in BCCI someday.

To give a small example of how influential and how under-rated Javagal Srinath was for India, here are some test match stats :

Anil Kumble - 132 matches, 10 Player of the Match awards
Zaheer Khan - 92 matches, 5 Player of the Match awards

This performance is despite countless injuries and fitness issues. His contribution has been exemplary in ODIs too.

We all enjoyed their bowling. That is the biggest thing they will have with them always
No doubt he was a finest bowler. But he had a hobby of bowling short pitch deliveries. Everybody knows in international cricket, short pitch deliveries very badly attacking battsmans. Once Mr. Manjareker commented, he surprised why he had been bowling short. Before I have seen a match in Newzealand, he was bowling short and attacked very badly. So he didn't performed up to the mark.if he could bowl more lengthy deliveries in foreign pitches, his profile would have been better. Otherwise he was a good bowler.

Couple of years, nearly at the end of Shrinath's career, he was practically unplayable. He gave headaches to biggest batsmen in cricket
He was a nightmare for left handers at the very end of his career.
How many catches went flying by the slips corridor and wicket keepers gloves, very unfortunate he did not get the fielding support for his pace as he was way ahead of his times for Indian fielders who could not gauge his speed or else definitely he would have had 20-40 more wickets to his tally, never he got the limelight as Zaheer or Bumbra had

Srinath was the quickest fast bowler and those days India was playing more in India. And India was not spending more for fast bowlers, he was very good bowler for left handed batsmen.

Just imagine , u have to be the best on the ground , which most great cricketers r , how many of them top the studies , a very few , most of them r southies , Prassana , Kumble , Srinath , Prasad , Ashwin, Dravid & many more, highly qualified , a great like Tendulkar had to concentrate on cricket to become the best, while these guys had to the best in the school first before they hit the grounds ... it takes the dedication to a different level .

@@rj6404 Sachin wasn't perfect, but he was the absolute best in the one skill he chose to pursue. A lot people consider him an all time great. But the real point I want to make here is some people can be good at various things but best at none, and some people are just the best at one thing. There shouldn't be any comparison among them because we need all of them.

His talk on leadership to NIAS (IISC) is simply incisive into the art of Leadership where he explains the reasons for Sachin not being a successful captain without prejudice and the difference between him and other captains of India that he played under.
Very under rated cricketer a gentelman and a Giant in his achievements and stature and tech savy too.

@@vijaymishra6963 I don't agree with you.. you are doing unnecessary and kidish comparisons. When we are talking about Srinath then what is requirement for you to wegde Bumrah in discussion. These two are bowlers from different era , played in different conditions with different players and equations. Srinath played in much more difficult conditions for an Indian pacer when there were no quality pace companions , coaches ,tools n techniques , fitness and diet programs and other essentials for a pace bowling environment. He had got much more burden of long spells whole Bumrah has got all above mentioned amenities with equally good pace bowling partners.. this make things easier. Don't forget Srinath constructed a way for young Turks like Bumrah to aspire for pace bowling the way he inspired.

Javagal Srinath is a wonderful fast bowler without any vanity. Good human being. So sad that India didn't want the world cup 2003. I still remember his best performance against Pakistan in Eden gardens taking 13 wickets and Sachin Tendulkar best knocks 136 but India lost that test match by merely 13 runs. So sad and cried after that match.
He is the reason why a lot of Indian kids took up fast bowling..
I met him last year officiating a t20 game between Aus-Nz in Auckland. He is super shy. I think my mates and I embarrassed him a bit.

Srinath Sir a through gentleman and a nice ambassador of Indian Cricket team not only was a good bowler but a very good batsman too who often came as a pinch hitter batsman very often after one wicket down. Like many of us in childhood I too hv copied his bowling style while playing cricket in our locality. Definitely a great great legend ❤️👍🙏

Growing up watching India, it was always Srinath who used to be the spearhead of our attack. I always admired his gentleman approach. In fact, I tried to copy his action, and with my limited talent, could play for my school team for a good 3 years
He was not bad with bat also he had played some small memorable innings , who remember that innings against australia , where we needed 3 runs in last Ball , srinath hit the ball high in the sky and all Indians jumped thinking six , but it went straight to Steve , and he dropped it But unfortunately Raju got run out ,and we lost the match , Indians always expected srinath to send the ball outside the ground , and he was capable of that and he proved it many times , he was used as a pinch hitter also , a great cricketer and a great fighter ...
