I wish ganguly had remained president of BCCI for longer. When cricketers will run cricket then they will definitely show more love to the sport and cricket will get more interesting when there r more competitive teams. Nobody will enjoy a world cup in which u know from the start who will be the semifinalists. If there r only 4 teams capable of winning the world cup then can we really be able to call it a world cup? It will be more of a tournament among 4 nations. SL and WI are already not considered capable of reaching semis, next i think Pakistan and South africa are on the same path as SL and WI. Cricket cannot be the same if these 4 nations officially become minnows in the sport. Rather than making minnow teams more competitive we r making teams that used to be competitive now minnows. And when that happens the sport we all love will die a slow death. Even indians will start losing interest when there r only 3 competitive teams left in the sport.

Truth is, when India lost the World Cup against Australia, I didn't feel sad even a bit because I no longer don't care about cricket because it's now a political sport rather than a true sport.

Behind every big thing there is politics, and not necessarily in a bad way. Money is needed to sustain anything big or relevant. This video is just demonizing BCCI as if the money they make is "easy money", but it is the interest of the fans that gives them that. Same could be the case for any country in the world, if they had a similar fan following. BCCI does what it does for India, and if it makes a lot of money, there is absolutely no reason in the world they should strangle themselves "for the interest of cricket" like some people yell about, as they are doing what's their job, raising Indian Cricket.

And they are definitely not the monopolistic powerhouses as portrayed in this video, for example look at Afghanistan cricket now. If other countries falter at having good players, how is that BCCI'S fault. Also there are all teams that need to qualify for world Cup before it starts so every team in the world plays qualification matches, so this whole 16 teams to 10 teams comparison is useless. It's just their teams are not good enough to qualify. For example, it is not BCCI who has ruined west Indian cricket, it's there players that weren't able to qualify, which is sad indeed, but west Indies needs to look into it and not BCCI.

Still I believe that it's a natural progression of the game considering any other popular game in the world. Every other tournament including Football World Cup is highly commercialized. And why should one worry about Cricket shrinking? How's that India's problem? American Football, Baseball is quite big and it's almost entirely domestic. It's actually a good thing that people will dissociate national pride from the game. Let it be just a game. If at all, all sports events in the world need solid reforms and not just cricket if we talk just about commercialization. No one stole it, no one killed it. It's evolution.

I am an Indian and I have to agree with every word said in this video. Lots of people like me who used to feel good about India winning a match against the attacks of McGrath/Brett Lee or Bond/Martin of yesteryears, now don't watch cricket anymore. The likes of Srini mama who gave debuts to every tom dick and harry of CSK, the removal of group stages in the WC, and frequent T20 world cups is all diluting and taking away the feel good factor of the game.

If Australia can lose 2 matches at the start, then they don't deserve to be World Champions of Cricket by definition. Then some other team like Netherlands would've qualified from their group, which would result in cricket growing in their country. If a team is facing an upset then that must increase the watchability and marketability, and ICC isn't selling it well. It's dumb from ICC that since some big team will miss out on advancing from group stages that they have put in a league format, eventually only one team will win the WC so all other big teams will be out of the tournament at some point anyway.

I'm a Bangladeshi, I express my sorrows on India's loss in the final. I remember back in 2006/7 up to 2015 or so me and all the boys my age were hooked to cricket. I used to skip my meals in fear that if i go to eat, my fav batsman might be out. But now I don't care. I haven't watched any cricket matches for about 4/5 years. Didn't watch a single match this year too. Only got to know about the final after it happened. It also feels like a waste of time given the fact that it takes so much time and besides it's just seeing the same india, pakistan, bangladesh, srilanka drama over and over again. Before there were teams like kenya, Zimbabwe, Scotland, ireland etc. All those teams are lost too.

I stopped watching cricket ever since 1st IPL started. I just lost interest in this beautiful game because of the amount of commercialization that was brought in. I have even stopped my monthly subscription to star sports who broadcasts cricket and only cricket all the time and projects the cricket players like some kind of godly figures, while other sports are neglected....it's shameful. This game will die if BCCI conitues its bullying practices toward other cricketing countries. Your last point is absolutely correct that the administrative bodies of cricket must be freed from the clutches of politicians.
I hope the time comes soon when peole will realise what a monster they have created with their own hands by giving their viewership, and splurging their hard earned money on exorbitantly pricey tickets. Nothing will change, people have seen the problems for a long time now. The BCCI is a corporation now, the fat cats and suits running the show are money guzzling idiots who will sell all that's left of cricket for loose change. As an Indian, I am more ashamed that the signs were there for almost 2 decades, and we ignored them until this loss suddenly snapped everyone out of their trance. I think currently we are going through those times that will be looked back on in the future and labelled as the era that killed international cricket. We may not be realising it now, but its the loss of cricket and a true cricket fan inside all of us. We are already missing what cricket used to be in the 90s, just imagine the day when there will be no competitive international cricket, only leagues will be played. National teams are getting killed off, in the name of greed, west indies, zimbabwe, sri lanka are no longer seen as interanational calibre teams.
True we need many nations play cricket and diversity in matches not just Indian team player

Consequences are visible, those who watch cricket not because it's a sport but a source of entertainment, prefer t10,t20 leagues over ODI and test matches, that's the reason why shorter formats are getting more attention than test and odi cricket. The end is near for cricket. Tbh it's boring seeing indian fans everywhere, it just doesn't feel right, the competitiveness, the energy feels like it's one sided....hope we can bring that old vibes back....

Somebody had to speak up about it, and I am glad you did. The government is still doing the same with football; even after several warnings from the World Football Association that no government member can be a part of the national football board, the government was too adamant to listen to them. And I wonder for now whether they still followed FIFA's warning. But in Indian cricket, you can see Government officials being a part of the board; why?
You spoke my mind. When IPL was new. I enjoyed it as anybody in India. After watching first two years of IPL. Cricket died inside me. I loved cricket. But overdone killed it for me. I miss test matches. Where.. techniques and strategies were key. Now.. its just hit ball across boundary and watch cheerleaders dance. Its pathetic. Idc which businessmen or celebrities own which team. I miss cricket in all this glamour.

Yeah. IPL is the main reason. The loss of interest in ODI and Test Cricket, the heavy commercialization and the reason that Cricket is more of a business than a sport of passion. It's all because of IPL which is only because of BCCI. They put more politics in it and eventually made it a laughing stock and a boring one at that.
but test matches are still being played and India is doing lot better than it used to. Also, world test championship is there so nations are competing rather than just playing bilaterals.
cricket will become more popular due to T20. test matches are for older audience and no one has 8 hrs to watch a damn ODI.

IPL was introduced to improve the T20 cricket of India..but after more than 15 years India have never won a T20 WC after the introduction of IPL.... It's politics and business not sport... About 200 countries in the World plays football but less than 20 countries plays cricket so no comparison in terms of pure sport...Cricket is big only because of Indian media ...no other country even cares
The rivalry that the Ashes brings is truly outstanding as Australia and England love to defeat each other. The rivalry is definitely still there, other than that most Day 1 of test matches (in Melbourne) get around 50,000-60,000. Australia's attempt of the IPL, the BBL was going fantastically until it got too stale and constant rule changes were made which resulted in confusion more than excitement. Cricket runs strong in Australia in summer too. Very intriguing and well made documentary.

The only way around this is if Indians stop watching cricket. If not; this will never change. So in short; crick will be played by those few countries only. Thats it.

The interview at @23:00 is a total gem. For me personally, cricket started becoming boring once T20 came along and the balance between bat and ball was gone. High-scoring games became a joke, good bowlers stopped developing because why would they. Now it seems like a street cricket to be honest. As for politics, we Indians do not take criticism well, for example, the South Africa series. But rest assured, we will only realize when it is too late. Hopefully, cricket will go back to how it was in the 90s and early 2000s, matches were nail-biting and would go on till the last time.
