Cricket isn't that complicated. It's just a nightmare to explain verbally only. You need to watch a game and run through it.
I stayed with an American in Minnesota once. He'd spent some time in Australia working for Ford. The house there backed onto a cricket pitch. He said he spent long periods watching mostly not much happening and then suddenly there'd be a flurry of activity and a load of shouting and he couldn't work out what had happened. Watching was not enough for him.
@@exessex3522 Of course. That's why you need to watch a game AND run through it.
Like our American Football! I didn't get it until I played it and watched with friends.
As an American who lived in England for a while, it took me 2 hours and a good friend watching the World Cup and I knew what was happening. Being a big fan of baseball, while they are obviously very different I loved watching it with him and having an English parent (who only loves football) I loved rooting for England. It’s really not that hard to understand if with a good friend and watching it.

As a Kenyan that grew up when Kenya had a good cricket team and cricket new dominated the headlines, I appreciate this documentary. Understanding the rules of the game I grew up loving at the age of 30. Talking of "Tamasha," I never knew it came from India because it is a Swahili word for ceremony. Confirms that Kiswahili is not just Bantu and Arabic, but a lot of languages that merged into a lingua franca for trade at the East African Coast.
I still admire your team from the early 2000s. D. Obuya, C.Obuya, Steve Tikkolo. And who can forget Kenya in the 2003 world cup? Love from India.

@@mr.scientist1469 basically you hit a ball and run to the base and stay there until someone else hits it watch a baseball game explaining thing u got this
@@mr.scientist1469 I am a huge baseball fan currently learning about cricket so we’re probably feeling the same way 😂 It seems like they are based around similar basic principles, however they are organized differently.
Baseball and cricket are quite different, however more similar to each other than to other sports from what I can tell. At the very least, they both have a player throwing a ball to a batter, who tries to hit it hard and accurately. They both give points to the batting team for hitting it outside of the field (pitch). In both sports, the batter is “out” if the opposing teams player catches the ball, and it becomes the next batters turn.
The wickets always confused me, but I think it is pretty much the same idea as in baseball - the batting player must get to their destination (wicket or base) before the ball does or they are out, in short.
I’m from the u.s., and after watching a few videos on cricket I already understand it better than I do American football because of the similarities!
This is by far my longest comment ever, I just am fascinated by cricket and enjoy someone in the same boat as me but with baseball. Let me know if anything I said was incorrect!
@@MrAwesomeSaucem Yeah bro you have a good understanding of cricket. One of the goals of batsman in cricket is to save the wickets by using bat, they can't use there body which is similar to three strikes in baseball I guess. It's a shame that this documentary completely missing on how Sri Lanka helped to change the cause of cricket. Especially in 1996. Not just winning the world cup but changing the enter game how it is played.
In Asia no one can forget Sri Lanka .😅 Sri Lanka is our brother and has one of the best team in the world no one can deny that .
If you vomit every single rule of any game at once , it is bound to be complicated. Just watch one or two games , you will understand everything

Because it is Netflix doing the advertisement 😆😆😂
I live in Chicago and there is a Pakistani restaurant across the street from me. Every time I'm there, they're watching Cricket. Being a sports lover, I want to get into this game. Looks really fun.
I'm sure there are lots of clubs in the US, but if you ever play with a hard cricket ball it will be a shock to the system when you get hit. If you want to just play recreationally with friends in the park, use a tennis ball. You can also get rubber practice cricket balls, they can hurt too, though not nearly as bad as a hard ball.
@@cricketexplained8526 Yea aren't the hard balls like billiards balls? haha

I am damn sure India vs Pakistan matches alone attracted half of the cricket fans worldwide towards this beautiful Game.
Yes brohh 💯💚پاکستان زندہ باد 🇵🇰
I dont think so. Literally no one here in England watches india Pakistan matches. We only care about England matches... especially England vs Australia. The ashes will always be the biggest thing in cricket. Bigger than the WC even. Nothing matters more to English cricket fans than the ashes. Plus English cricket grounds get filled out far more for test matches than indian ones.

They didn't explain cricket. They just told history of cricket over a timeline of 100 years.
"cricket. Explained" "there's actually 10 ways to get out, but instead of explaining cricket, we're going to give you a history lesson instead"
Ok but who's going to explain cricket?
Ikr? I’m no huge cricket fan but this is basically “cricket sucks, watch IPL”.
As a Dominican who, like most dominicans, grew up playing baseball; cricket fells familiar but so weird at the same time. When they were explaining the "laws" I was like "but why??" the whole time hahaha
They kinda remind me of stick ball or street baseball rules. Modified baseball games we played as kids in the city when we didn't have a bunch of space but had a bunch of players.
@@dasdovian7785 yess! here in the Dominican Republic we play a game called "vitilla" played with a stick and the lid of one of those big water bottles, and the rules are similar indeed
I learned to play Cricket in ‘07 in NZ; using a tennis ball, frying pan and milk crate for wickets. It was a blast! I still barely understand it, but always catch myself watching matches :)
Finally cricket not fully explained but marketed really well
Life is just a metaphor for Cricket.
I enjoy T20 and One Day but I love Test Cricket. And Test Cricket isn't over yet by a long way.

1:06 hey that rivalry cannot be explained by man it's too awesome
Very India-centric look at cricket but a good one nonetheless. I’m from Zimbabwe and grew up at a time when we had greats like Grant & Andy Flower, Heath Streak, Henry Olonga etc. Corruption unfortunately destroyed Zimbabwean cricket but I hope we can someday be back where we belong.
As an Aussie I was surprised and sad to see Zimbabwe not in the T20 World Cup. It's great to see the sport growing in Africa but Zim should be a driving force.
You will be. It'll take time and investment, but I've no doubt you can be a great team again.
As an American that was raised on Basketball, Baseball, and American Football. It took some time for me to adopt and love proper football/futbol and even longer to do the same for Rugby.
I find myself sitting here watching Australia vs Sri Lanka in the T20 world cup. I had no idea what was happening. This video may have single handedly changed my perspective on this game. I'm actually enjoying the match now.

@AmanEyes That’s the plan!
I wonder if I was the only one here watching this who learned something. An American with little interest in sports I could barely explain football to you. I got recommended a clip of a bowler spinning a ball so hard at bounced at a ninety degree angle. I was like cool I have no clue what I just watched. Helpfully RUclips was aware of this and recommended this next.
1:15 because of Lagaan 🇮🇳
It's kind of absurd not showing Sri Lanka lifting the 1996 World Cup which was such a pivotal moment in the evolution of cricket.
mihir shah During that era, Sri Lanka simply changed how Cricket is played in the shorter version by explosive hitting. The opening pair Jayasuriya and Kaluwitharana implemented it very well during the 1996 World Cup campaign!
Buddy, this documentary was made by Indians to show their country cricket and bring some money from none cricket playing countries. so obviously they will not show any detail about any other that's why it shows IND vs AUS match with mentioning 1996 world cup. This is their investment to develop their cricket and bring some money. When do I say MONEY, you know which money I meant right?

There are 10 ways a batsman can get out. One of them is "Hit Wicket" which is not listed at 3:50. Instead, they have "Retired" which technically is considered out but you don't exactly get out and no-one is credited with getting you out.
No mention of Don Bradman or recent World cups or even recent test teams and their exlpoits. Could have thrown in 100 centuries of Sachin Tendulkar
The ways to get out is wrong.
1. Retired out is still considered "not out", even though you cant actually bat. In such cases the batsman's innings will continue to be counted as not out in the records.
2. You missed hit wicket, which is probably the most common of the 5 uncommon ways of getting out!!!
Also, in your animation in the beginning, you missed the fact that the bowler changes ends after each over!!!
When I used play at my home if you hit over the boundary (wall) you are out 😂
