  • Just a week before his debut test match, when playing for Bombay Presidency against MCC, a dangerous ball by Morris Nickels ended up injuring Vijay Merchant's chin. But that injury, instead of becoming his weakness, it became his strength as he started working on his gameplay more after the incident. In the 1936 India's tour of England, Vijay Merchant was the batsman to score the highest runs from our team and is considered to be the best player of the Indian Cricket team during those times. But sir, Bradman himself Geographically was from the East. Australia is the Eastern most country. And America is the Western most country

    Highest First Class Average
    Sir Don Bradman 95
    Vijay Merchant 71
George Headley 68 of West Indies .
All three lost 6 years of their career to WW2 .
While Bradman was spotted early in developed cricketing nation , Vijay was playing at a time when Kings and Princes ruled Indian cricket. Not all these princes were like Ranji , Duleep and Pataudis and used their influence negatively. The greatest legacy of Vijay merchant is He was the first in line of great Bombay Batters .

      Headley got 69.86.
He might have gotten more if he didn't lose his old form during his later Years.
Before WW-2 his Avg was nxt only to Bradman's.
The guy who averaged 60+ from a Debut Country.

@@sankalpsrivastava4385 geographically u are right...but historically british considered australia not as a separate country but their own territory in the east.australian early settlers being from british isles and only white immigration policy till 70s proves that.So bradman was plain simple bradman...but vijay merchant or zaheer abbas becomes bradman of the east.similar like if u have a cmama in ur own city,u call them mama...but one from dilli is dilli vaale mama.
