- An opening batsmen defines the game. The role and approach of an opener has evolved through the years. Back in the day an opener had to steadily craft an inning and plot his game. Today the opener’s role is to give the team a flying start. This episode highlights one of India’s most conservative and technical openers from the pre independence era, Vijay Merchant, to one of the best Test openers in the world, Sunil Gavaskar. The show also explores the rise of Tendulkar and Sehwag who took opening batting to a vibrant, aggressive and exuberant level.

I thought this list was specific to Test match openers. If Tendulkar was discussed, Ganguly should have been mentioned too.
Yes as he was best in the world for highest runs just after sachin for a long time.
Think they were covering the specific time periods. Ganguly played with Sachin, so - same period.

Where is saurav ganguly?? From 1998 to 2002 he achieved icc no.1 odi batsmen
It’s bit of a myth that Sunny made 13 hundreds against the mighty WI attack, in fact if someone care to look at the scorecards of those matches only 2 or three 100s were made against what we would call fearsome foursome. At best two of those would have been present at any one time.
Sachin was a great test batsman too.
Bit disappointing not to see sourav gangly.

When did Sehwag give nightmares to Lee? Lee got him out every now and then... Jayasuriya, yes, he was the one who actually gave spine chills to any bowler including Lee and McGrath.
