Isn't it funny, both South Africa & New Zealand, two teams that are mocked that they never won the World Cup, are the only two teams that were robbed of their glory due to the corrupt system out there. A player will try to overcome everything he/she can, but then in the end they are told that it didn't matter.
What happened that day with South Africa is pure corruption, yes But what happened in 2019 was certainly not corrupt, just bad deciesion making by the umpires....
Just came here after India winning against South Africa T20 World Cup 2024 final. Great match and great performance by both teams. If it's not India playing the final, then I would have rooted for South African team to win this World Cup against any other team
This would never happen if Australia was part of a final. I'm extremely impressed by the Sri Lankan team of 1996 that really showed true character to beat that australia side in that 🚾.
The main problem with this video is that it starts with a narrative, that greed ruined the match, then uses genuine facts interspersed with half truths and speculation bordering on lies in order to paint the narrative. This match was highly controversial and worthy of review however to get closer to the truth we need access to the playing conditions that existed in 1992 World Cup. Unfortunately I have not been able to access the specific playing conditions for this tournament and I suggest that Cricket Raaz has also not viewed them for a number of reasons. I will endeavour to make it clear when I am using known facts and when I am making assumptions as a result of not having access to the playing conditions. The video accused the Australian Cricket Board of handing over control of crucial playing conditions such as match timing to channel 9. Whilst it is true that the host nation officially writes the playing conditions it is in actuality an agreement between two boards in a bilateral tournament and by all boards in a multilateral tournament such as the World Cup. So for channel 9 to dictate the particular playing conditions they would have to coerce all the national boards. The video implies that there was no allowance made to extend the match yet fails to acknowledge that the original schedule had been extended. The first session was extended from 1800 to 1810, the interval was reduced by 10 minutes and the second session was extended from 2200 to 2210. I contend that there was no allowance to extend beyond the already extended time. We need to see the playing conditions for the tournament in order to determine if that is correct. I suggest that if this did contravene the playing conditions it would have resulted in an almighty furore and an official investigation into why the playing conditions were ignored. The video contends that channel 9 refused for the reserve day to be used. It is my recollection that once 25 overs have been bowled in the second innings then the match would not use a reserve day as sufficient overs had been bowled to allow a result. Therefore, I believe, channel 9 could not have refused the use of a reserve day as it was the playing conditions of the tournament as agreed by all participants. The video stipulates that the “rain rule” was devised by channel 9. Firstly it was not called the rain rule it was called the Most Productive Over (MPO) method. Prior to this tournament the Average run rate rule was used to determine the revised target in the event of rain delays and it had proved to be inadequate on many occasions. Therefore a panel of experts headed by the late great Richie Benaud were tasked with devising a new method. However, the rationale of this method was based on stoppages occurring during the interval, so that if Team 2 lost say 25 overs, then their target was derived from the 25 most productive overs in Team 1’s innings, irrespective of when the overs were lost. So if the stoppage was in the latter part of Team 2’s innings it often gave a grossly unfair target. Unfortunately this method was also not fit for purpose, that led to the introduction of the Duckworth Lewis method. I can see no reason for channel 9 to get involved in this revised target calculation as it would serve zero commercial value to them. It is simply a method of determining what score needs to be achieved if the overs are reduced. I am willing to be proved incorrect if there is evidence that the playing conditions as they stood in 1992 were deliberately violated and that it was channel 9 that instigated the violation.
Beautifully covered. I was 5 when I watched this match. I recall watching the match but having no understanding of the match. It's good to see the English players having a good spirit and reassuring the SA players.
The trouble is though this match may have been a farce leaving South Africa needing 22 off 1 ball , but it changed the way ODI cricket was played FOREVER and with out this match we may have still been playing cricket under the same rules today and never had the DWLS method for calculating rain delays in white ball cricket …

Its unfair from every angle... At the end of the day, how does it matter if you score runs by singles or boundaries... same score means both have played equally good. Its stupidity to consider one team as winners bcz the other team has scored runs in boundaries. On the other hand, 6xers and 4 are considered as same and thats even more ridiculous. Mathematically 2 6xers make 12 runs and 3 4s make 12 runs... based on this , WC finals shouĺd have been a TIE bcz NZ scored more 6xers and that didnt happen bcz of morons making the rules who couldnt use a bit of cricketing wisdom. Also all the cricketing pundits couldnt say anything of such rules before the world cup. Isnt that wierd as well??

wrong about 2011 bro. As a team SA was not good, but AB was a beast in 2011. In 2011-12, AB rarely/never got out by bowled or lbw or stumped, he got out by runout or getting caught alone (i.e. the bowlers could not deceive him) In 2011 World Cup, SA batting was heavily dependent on AB and he delivered. In first 2 mathes he scored 107 and 134. they lost third match vs Eng and 4th match vs India he again scored a quick 52 of 39 and SA was in the quarters, the next 2 matches SA rested AB. In the quarters, AB was going well, they needed 100 from 21 overs. And he was RUNOUT (the only way to make AB out those days) So, i beielve 2011 also, SA was unlucky

I am not a South African and neither did I witness the match live. However, as a cricket lover this match still makes me furious. I salute the restraint and character of the South African players who kept their calm even in the face of such unforgiving injustice. This match and the final match of 2019 world cup brings me to tears every time I watch them due to the sheer injustice meted out to SA and NZ cricket teams and coincidentally the beneficiary on both the occasion was England.
NZ wasn't deprived of WC because of any absurd rule. When the rule was created for most boundaries, every team captain agreed upon it and there was no opposition to the idea. And it was extremely unlikely that a match be tied and then super over be tied as well. Every team captain had to take responsibility for not criticizing this rule when it was conveyed. There was a vote for it as well and everyone signed. 1992 rules were outrageous and were criticized even before WC had begun and even Australians were against it but consensus wasn't an option then. It was there in 2019 case. Stop feeling sorry for NZ. As Indians we have a soft corner for NZ and SA players and general hatred towards Aus and England. It creates bias. ICC were completely dominated by the sheer wave of social media criticism led by Indians and Aussies that they had to change the rule completely. Personally I didn't like the rule, but the uproar was out of proportion. England won NZ lost and NZ were partly responsible for that.
@@ThankYouGoogle4 Agreed. It was a stupid rule, and none of the captains should've accepted it, however unlikely the situation looked at the time. But one could also argue that NZ were deprived of the world cup, because the overthrow that went to the boundary, should've fetched five runs instead of six. Plus, Ben Stokes should've been on the non strikers end for the next ball.

As an Indian and 90's Cricket Lover, this day was, and still most devastating and unfair day of Cricket. SA deserved 1992 World Cup.
Pakistan won coz they deserved...you can say that SA deserved to be in finals!!!
Instead of would or should, the reality on the ground, Pakistan WON, and rightfully so, the under dog of the tournament !!!
Sa 'deserved' every world cup but they are chokers and chokers are they.
Yep they did deserve

What happened
@@20_mihir48 Watch the goddamn video.
Boo hoo, they lost cos they batted too safe , end of story
Beautifully covered. I was 5 when I watched this match. I recall watching the match but having no understanding of the match. It's good to see the English players having a good spirit and reassuring the SA players.
The trouble is though this match may have been a farce leaving South Africa needing 22 off 1 ball , but it changed the way ODI cricket was played FOREVER and with out this match we may have still been playing cricket under the same rules today and never had the DWLS method for calculating rain delays in white ball cricket …

Thank you Duckworth and Lewis for making this game better. The removal of least productive overs from the target is the worst rule ever in any sport, anywhere. How the hell did the authorities approve that rule?
Because it came from the hand of the much-respected Richie Benaud.
It was such a dumb rule. It negates the best overs of the Bowling team. It's like you are penalized for bowling well. Dumbest rule in History.
It follows statistical ‘best practice’.
Removing the one highest AND the one lowest scoring over, is not unusual in statistical analysis.

wrong about 2011 bro. As a team SA was not good, but AB was a beast in 2011. In 2011-12, AB rarely/never got out by bowled or lbw or stumped, he got out by runout or getting caught alone (i.e. the bowlers could not deceive him)
In 2011 World Cup, SA batting was heavily dependent on AB and he delivered.
And he was RUNOUT (the only way to make AB out those days)

Cricket is not for entertainment ITS WASTE of tym please don't give attention them...

Australia and their media are still so highbrow though we broke it in 2018 and 2020 ( Border-Gavaskar Trophy). By the way I was literally crying during your narrating, Absolutely phenomenal 🔥🔥🇮🇳🇮🇳.

How many times will you bark gabba this is why india lost they are so overreacting peoples.

@@Dontknowhoiam Yes you are correct but I was talking about your media and your team's thinking that they are best in the world. Do you remember in 2018 Australian media were saying that in absence of Warner and Smith only India can win Series, Now come to 2020 how many players of our team got injury?? And fun fact Smith and Warner are there 😉😉

I have seen this match and everyone was afraid of South Africa at that time and they were the most favoured to win the cup. ❤️❤️ Remembered the childhood days.
same story in 99 south africa were heavy favourites to win

You have such a beautiful way of storytelling…. From good vocab to right pauses, right emotions to right tones, you kept audience gripped….. and your voice is soothing to listen without distracting from content…. I am a fan…
As a kid I remember asking this question to everyone and all I got as an answer was Duckworth and Lewis rule. The information in this video is so enlightening and helps understand one of the biggest tragedies in World Cricket! South Africa would have been WC Champs if not for this :(
Rubbish, how do you know they would have won in the final.
@@paulcarew593 How do you know they wouldn't?
@@somaniaakash03 Yes but the person who makes the first statement is saying it as a fact that they "would have been WC champs if not for this". First of all, you seem to think that S.A would have definitely won this semi-final game when they still had a lot to do and then you seem to be certain that they would have won the final. He also talks about Duckworth/Lewis when it is a FACT that this method was not in use in 1992.
@@somaniaakash03 they cant win because in final. They have 2 face with imran tigers...

The amount of passion behind every word literally gave me goosebumps.
MONEY changed CHAMPIONS of 1992 WC. They were surely gonna be world champions of 1992 WC if they would have reached finals.
Absolutely. Pakistan never had a chance against the Proteus.

But that rule was already decided before tha start of world cup. That was not their fault.
@@Khalid_KK I was sure that was guaranteed win for NZ until the ball struck the bat while Ben Stokes was running
And all of childhood I was thinking deckward Lewis rule is responsible for this
Duckworth Lewis came out in the 2000s, and it's a much much much better rule. Not perfect, but much better.
@@samsowden its a ridiculous rule, enforced just because it came from England.

This is an example of a great video, amazingly heartfelt narration and a slap on anyone who thinks an Indian accent can only be mocked. Good job on the video production
