He aged like a fine wine! I remember agonizing moments when he used to miss the edges so regularly. With even 20% better luck, he could have taken 400 test wickets easily..
Agreed. No support from other bowlers end. He is alone warrior in SENA countries. If one or two good fast bowlers supported him, he would have been devastated bowlers in test matches particularly in SENA countries
@@leemafashion6628 (i am not saying our slip catchers were great that did indeed play a part) ...this is just my theory but i think the dropped catches were also due to his shorter length..when the length is short the deflections are much more pronounced instead of fine edges like what other swing bowlers generate from fuller length .... but that short length makes those rare edges hard to catch..you can see in this video itself by how much deviation of the pitch he generates and Trescothick is not even close to nicking any of this deliveries (huge gap between bat and ball).... look at athe ball at 1.42 if it was even a fraction fuller no way trescothick would have not nicked it.... by forced him to bang it in short it became muscle memory for Srinath and he was made a defensive bowler to save runs instead of an attacking option.....

This man like Tendulkar did for batting, shouldered Indian bowling responsibility with aplomb single handedly most times... secondly, if u were a Indian fan and watching the matches during mid 90s u would learn how this man day in and day out bowled those long spells, some amazing hostile spells as well in his long career. He lost that zip due to over bowling and this 2003 world cup, succeeding the NZ tour was just icing on the cake on an illustrious career although the final just didn't go our way. Overall a great bowler, thorough professional, a gentleman and a role model for many young fast bowlers in India.
I agree with you about Javagal Srinath but not about Tendulkar. There were way better batsman than him in the team and they performed way batter than Tendulkar when it mattered the most. Check the likes of Ajay Jadeja, Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman Azharuddin. Tendulkar did score lots of runs but most of the runs are not against good teams. @@bhaskarpuvvala5849 This is a usual statement from a Bhakt of someone who defends him irrespective of what. I am not a Pakistani. Sachin has scored 100 centuries and yet you could hardly point out 5 centuries which mattered.Rest of them hardly anyone remembers. Here is a example for your bhakt brain do u remember when India won the NatWest one day series in England where Dada took his shirt out in the Lords Balcony, in that match it was partnership by Mohd Kaif and Yuvraj singh which won the match. That one inning didn't make Kaif a batsman to be remembered. Kaif was a good fielder. Now compare Tendulkar with Bradman or a Brain Lara or a Steve Smith, All the three won series on their own. When did Tendulkar did that never. Talking about a opener in odis have u seen Gilchrist winning Australia matches from opening slot, u will remember 2003 world cup final of Gilchrist. Being a star and a good cricketer are two different things. Dravid never was a star but he was always a good cricketer who was good at his job. Sachin has always played for his centuries and he was angry with Dravid when he declared against Pakistan when sachin was on 195 why because a team win was not that important to sachin than his 200. About press conferences he always was a diplomatic in his answers he always poitioned himself in a good way. To understand the difference Virat Kohli is not a diplomatic in his answers he replies with honesty and compliments people when they do something good. I promise you one thing in another 10 years Sachin's name will not be among great batsmen but from India it will be Gavaskar, Kohli etc. Sachin will be remembered for the 100 centuries. I am not a bhakt of anyone I believe in facts. 10 centuries out of 100 doesn't make a batsman great. Steve Smith won a ashes series on his own last summer in England that is called great.

Highly underrated. Still believe he was the best Indian pace bowler after Kapil. Unfortunately played mostly in India where at times a spinner or Ganguly was sharing the new ball with him. People talk about Bumrah & Zaheer. They are certainly better than Srinath when it comes to reverse swing or bowling Yorkers. But one must also consider that Bumrah has hardly played test matches on Indian pitches.

Thank u for uploading this !!! Now many people will come to know how underrated Shrinath is...... He is one of the best fast bowlers the world has ever seen !!!
Back in the days, Indian bowlers were always tagged as medium pace bowler and never ever fast bowler. Even McGrath who bowled at 130s all through his career was tagged as fast bowler. Here was Srinath at the end of his career at World Cup 2003 was regularly clocking 140kmph plus. He was tear away fast in the 90s before a shoulder injury in 1997 but still he was quick enough and mighty effective. He will remain a favorite of mine and a highly underrated bowler in world cricket and served India very well.
Clocking 140+ at that age and more than 5 overs spells for over 4 World cups plus being over bowled in test matches on dead pitches with no support from the other end for decades till zaheer arrived...that's the struggle Javagal Srinath has gone through. 1st genuine fast bowler from India. True gentleman who got absolutely no credit for his efforts! Great upload!
Srinath still hold the record of bowling the fastest delivery by an Indian pace bowler. 157.3kmph is still unbeaten to this day. Maybe in the days to come Umran Malik, Mayank Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah , Mohd Siraj, Mohd. Shami may break this record, but the consistency to bowl over 140 clicks without losing line and length with intelligence and displaying gentlemanly attitude will never come close as that of Srinath. He was the humble warrior from 1989-2003 who started in 1990 as a first change bowler to Kapil Dev and Manok Prabhakar and went on to spear head the attack for most of the 90s and early 2000s. A rare gem.
The 03' WC south africa pitch was the fastest and most suitable for fast bowlers. Each and every one broke their speed limits there. Shoaib, Lee, Bond, Zaheer, Nehra 🔥
@@elangomass Yes I know that's what I'm saying pitch was faster in that sense only. After pitching the ball did not slow down as much as it is used to. The batsman faced the balls a lot quicker than normal.
Srinath was the fastest Indian bowler since independence but especially back in the 90s , board and team management never cared to manage his workload properly. Such a shame. A very hardworking cricketer who always gave his all while playing for the national team but never got his due especially during Azhar and Sachin 's captaincy. It was Ganguly who brought his most experienced pace weapon back in the team before WC 2003. Srinath, who already retired by that time, was back in action to do national duty on the request of the skipper. And what a wcup he had had! Barring the final he was phenomenal throughout the tournament.
He would give 110% in every game he played in his career.. His total no. of wickets might not do justice with his talent, but yes.. He will always be remembered to introduce the real fast bowling face of India, who always had a draught of fast bowlers since the beginning of cricketing era.. Respect..🙏🙏
Whatever he has made in his career was tremendous had best average and strike rate. The final match was really a tough final for him bowled 10overs and conceded more than 80+ runs.
Lethal off cutters on field and absolute humble guy off field. He used to come to Gold's gym in JP Nagar occasionally. Fortunately met him few times. Gem of a person.. very cheerful man.
14 overs 3.0 RPO that's class. Happy to have seen this match live.... Just to add if India had batted first in 2003 WC final then we would have had 3 WCs by now. Still hard to digest that India didn't win th 2003 WC.
This was by far the best world cup squad for India.. Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly, Yuvraj as batters.. Srinath, Zaheer, Kumble as bowlers.. Good fielders like Kaif, Yuvraj.. Excellent captain in Ganguly..
In the same world cup Wasim and Waqar were bowling at 135-137 kph. He is bowling 140-142 kph at the age of 36-37. Imagine how fast he was in his prime. Just because he was an Indian he did not get appreciation he deserved.
Tendulkar scored 50 runs with 8 fours & 1 monster six against caddick. Srinath bowled like this other end made nehra to pick 6 wickets. Pure class cricket.

All West Indian Legends (Walsh, Ambrose, Holding, Marshall...), Wasim Akram, McGrath, Mohammad Asif to name a few. No taking away anything from Srinath, I consider him a very good dedicated bowler.
Ashish Nehra bowled 10 overs on the trot in this match itself
Once i did 20 overs in a row in short hand cricket 😀😀
Vaas once bowled 10 overs in a row
Wasim bowl 10 over constantely against sa
He is king of his era, every opposition batsman respects him.
Nope McGrath
Bloody media potrayed him as fast medium bowler while he consistently hitting over 140s and also crossed 150kmph in 90s, most underrated Indian cricketer ever❤ if he had a strong bowler like bumrah to open as pair with him in mid 90s he would have achieved more heights and got more wickets
He is bowling consistently 140+...Not today even the fastest of Indian pacers do this so consistently. Very exciting to relive those days. Great bowling!!!
My favorite bowler while growing up. He served the nation quietly and with sincerity for years. Never had the pleasure of getting pace friendly home grounds but kept on giving his best consistantly. A true gentleman of this game, no drama at all, underrated all through his career. Not sure how many such players we see this days. Thanks for sharing old memories.
Javagal srinath is a Kannadiga. Kannada Pride.
One of the finest wicketless spells you'll ever see. Hard luck, but how well bowled. Ohhhhh, impeccable Srinath 👌🏻 👏 👍
All went to Nehra that day !!

What about his final spell in the last match
@@renjiths.9672 Something's smelling foul. Why go that far 2003 ! How about 2007 WC final where same AUS side hammered their way to victory riding on unstoppable Gilly brute force against the best bowling pair of Vaas & Murali 😄
Appreciate they're all great bowlers - have good and bad days, one should acknowledge the good and let the bad be bygones 👍
@@iammodestykazi6914 disaster is always disaster. I think it was a team's decision to attack the batsmen right from the beginning of the match that eventually cost the disastrous bowling performance of Indian bowlers
Great bowling by legand srinath he is the first genuine fast bowler produced by the Indian cricket... really he was so quick every bowl 140+ hetts off..I think this match 2003 world cup ....... and one thing more srinath had decided to rest his shoes before wc ..but Ganguly wants srinath then he came back on the team for wc salute this legand
My favorite childhood cricketer! Srinath! Magnificent pacer, team man and a gentleman of the game as everyone here seems to concur. He’s soft spoken, humble and classy with his interviews as well.
J shrinath is pure gold , what a fantastic fast bowler he is...
People here watching Srinath's speed, but me here wondering how a reluctant part-time wicket keeper Dravid is better than most of the specialist today.
Legend gave his all in WC 2003 , in his final stint. A big salute to you Sir if you ever see my comment. 🙏🏻🙌
One of the most underrated fast bowler of all time
Many people don't know but Javagal Srinath was India's first express pace bowler. He use to consistently bowl 140+ which was a rarity in Indian Cricket before him. Legend!
Bowling speed of 140 plus in his last season... Superb at age of 34.
He is one of my favourite bowler,
Even when Pakistan India matches,
At that time I used to love him,
Srinath, Anil Kumble, Prasad,
3 were great bowlers,
Best wishes from Pakistan
He aged like a fine wine! I remember agonizing moments when he used to miss the edges so regularly. With even 20% better luck, he could have taken 400 test wickets easily..
Agreed. No support from other bowlers end. He is alone warrior in SENA countries. If one or two good fast bowlers supported him, he would have been devastated bowlers in test matches particularly in SENA countries
Because he was forced to bowl slightly short to contain runs and rough up the ball for spinners.....he needed a better fast bowing partner ...
@@shashiy4545 correct. 👍
@@shashiy4545 one of the biggest reason is slip cordon catching in his hey days.It was pathetic to say least.Ask any sports journo in his days.
I didnt see any sledging during his career.
Bowl a superb delivery and headed back to bowl again.
Just amzing Sri !!
If srinath had sledged every ball like McGrath..i think he would have got more wickets!
But he is a gentleman never ever did that.
Pure class pure cricket!
Long live Javagal Srinath.

He was nearing the end of his illustrious career. I guess he'd come back from retirement. Yet see the pace at which he's bowling here. Boy! He was quick!
I was 8 years old when I watched this game. WC 2003. I remember I said to my Dad this guy Nehra will win it for us and he took six wickets in this match but boy how good was Javagal Srinath, cuz I was a kid I couldn’t understand the importance of this spell. After 2 decades luckily this video came up 👍
Lovely bowling from Srinath. After Kapil he was the best bowler played for India. If he and Zaheer Khan have played in the same team for 10 years India could have won more matches.
श्रीनाथ जी महान बॉलर है। व्यक्तित्व के धनी भी है, दिल से प्रेम श्रीनाथ जी को❤🙏
Genuinely a pacer of our country ...Javagal
Underrated legend... The pace - the precision - the combo with Prasad - the unforgettable batting partnership with Kumble in Chinnaswamy Stadium -the ability to take wickets under any condition.... Legends like him made cricket a religion for 90s kids...
Wow! Was he bowling 7 overs on a trot?? That too with 140Ks around in his last over of the spell? Amazing!
Most underrated and unsung hero of Indian cricket.....he gave wonderful spells for India.....look at his Speed in this age....mohd Siraj reminds me Srinath sir with his angle of bowling..... I think Srinath deserves more respect and he should be with team India as a bowling coach 🙏🙏
He was never a match winner like Dravid or Ganguly or Laxman ever was
@@muzafarwani9584 then u haven't seen his 141 vs aus in 1998 knockout game

India defeated Pak after many years and scored 300 for the 1st time in 1996 Sharjah match due to Sachin.
India won CB series in aus in 2008 due to his efforts
Scored crucial 53 and 85(MOM) in semis and quarters of 2011 WC.
Aforementioned all match winning.

His 160 won us that test in NZ after 33 years and laid foundation for serie win in 2009.
523 runs in 7 matches when there were many great batsmen at their peak during 1996 WC.

93 vs pak Hobart 2000
I can go on and on...but point is how can opener win us games, he has to bat full 50 overs and chase it down or what.
Jadeja, Azhar, Dravid , Ganguly were never the bigger names when Tendulkar rose to stardom in 1994 till his retirement.
Those names never would get scrutinized as much as Sachin...hence there r morons a plenty pointing out at Sachin at every opportunity because they r amazed why people love and respect him so much.
Above all a great character and human being, who never yelled at umpires, disrespected opposition, gave press statements (quiet even in 2000 mat h fixing saga)
I think u r a Pakistani that's y I am being respectful...if u r an Indian then me and others watching this know where u r coming from
@@bhaskarpuvvala5849 This is a usual statement from a Bhakt of someone who defends him irrespective of what.

About Lara and others mentioned these questions are usually asked by reporters who are usually from South Asia. Records speak. Back on the years... These all are mens are the prode to make India on top.. We are always memorise the game...
But one must also consider that Bumrah has hardly played test matches on Indian pitches.
look at his pace! even at the 12th over consistently clicking at 90mph. He, Courtley Ambrose, and Allan Donald will be always my three favorite bowlers.
Look 90 m phon kek
Continuously bowling 140+ in last stage of his career.
So? Its slower for brett lee

I've seen videos of Javagal Srinath from the 1996 England tour and he seemed to have this effort ball which often hurried the batsman. I'd request the viewers to watch a spell of his from then and admire this fine fast bowler at his absolute best.
I have seen those matches live... he was damm fast.. in 1998 test match of Sri lanka tour of India, his ball hit the great Jaysurya's helmet and jaysurya sat on ground for 15 mins in pain with still head ..

Thank u for uploading this !!! Now many people will come to know how underrated Shrinath is...... He is one of the best fast bowlers the world has ever seen !!!
India's best fast bowler till date. We will miss you shirt no 7
Back in the days, Indian bowlers were always tagged as medium pace bowler and never ever fast bowler.
He had venkateshwar prasaad to support from other end. Zaheer nd Ashish were debutants 2years ago where these legends hung up their shoes👞.
Bhai bowling speed pitch se nai, hand se release hone k time pe measure ki jaati hai
Bro bowling calculated when the ball is released...after pitching speed will be max 110 kph....so any pitch you will release the same amount of speed
@@elangomass Yes I know that's what I'm saying pitch was faster in that sense only. After pitching the ball did not slow down as much as it is used to. The batsman faced the balls a lot quicker than normal.
@@elangomass sena countries pitch offers much more speed and bounce after pitching than sub cont. pitches
Probably one of the best bowling actions in the world. My all time favorite bowler.. Javagal Srinath.. ❤❤❤❤
140+ speed in his bowling last days from his career birliant, one of the best fast bowler of India. 😮

I always called Srinath a “Good Length” bowler.

Nobody can produce these kind of bowler after him..
He would give 110% in every game he played in his career.. His total no. of wickets might not do justice with his talent, but yes.. He will always be remembered to introduce the real fast bowling face of India, who always had a draught of fast bowlers since the beginning of cricketing era.. Respect..🙏🙏
