My mother also sang this and I think of it sometimes. Marvelous to randomly find it on youtube. I have remembered nearly every word of all the verses all these years.
I was probably 6 years old when I first heard this song while watching Lawrence Welk with my family. When my parents had the house remodeled, my mom insisted on getting a Grandfather Clock. She absolutely loved it. When she passed 35 years later it stopped working. That song came to mind immediately.
This is what a community concert is all about. Classy singing, a bit of fun, involve the audience. A total joy to watch and listen to this. Loved the little touches with the rattle, duck-call, hooter and swanee etc on “Stopped!… Short!…”
My Grandma taught me that song when I was wee. I am 76. Our family always sang it when we went on car trips. So many fond memories. Thanks for the memory.👍💕
Oh how wonderful! I’m 64, and this song brings back to me the very happiest memories of a wonderfully happy childhood 😍. My dad taught me this song and we would frequently sing it together, with our own version of actions. Dad and I taught it to my children and we had a lot of fun with it. Now that my dad is no longer alive, I’ve taught my little grandchildren and we love to sing it together. My youngest grandchild has a particularly beautiful voice and she loves to sing it to her mum and dad. Thank you for the memories. I absolutely love your rendition of this song 😁
When my father passed away in 1992, the clock he had bought in 1960 stopped working within a week. It could not be repaired, it being a German make. Now it is being driven with a quartz movement. The same clock face but no pendulum.
Ah, the memories this gong brings back. My mom used to sing to my sister and I a lot when we were younger and my dad was away with the army. This is one of many songs and stories she had memorized when SHE was younger and used to entertain her invalid sister. I am now 66 and still remember a lot of them and this is one of them.
Our momma sang us to sleep with this song, 4 little girls. I still sing it at 73. She also sang Alice Blue Gown and Pennies From Heaven. Beautiful voice and wonderful memories ❤️ 💖 💕 ♥️ 💜
Oh, thank you so very much for reminding me of those songs of my childhood. My parents were born pre WWI and I was born just past WWII, and they were music lovers, so I am familiar with music that spans well over 100 years. This includes nonsense songs like Marzyd oats, and yes, we have no bananas! 😊
Hubby taught this to our kids. My sister LOVED it, and when she wanted them to sing, she'd say ok sing it at my funeral. My daughter lives in NZ and send a message to be played at her funeral. We all smiled with so much sadness
This brings memories My fathers clock stopped on the day of his death Nothing spiritual she chain was broken at five to ten and it had to be nudged past that every evening!!
Family favourite and the strange thing is the clock my parents got for a wedding present stopped at 03:15 when he died and hasn't worked since. He always joked that would happen, he never for one moment considered it could really happen.
Had a kids phonograph with a steel needle in 1960. Got a yellow 45 sized record with this song on it, and played it till the needle wore thru the plastic. I never thought I would hear it again. Now at 69, I feel fulfilled. Thank you so much. The record had 2 xylophone blocks for the tic tok sound.
If you ever come to Denmark I will be the first through the door, with all the horror in todays news it has been a joy listening to a hall full of fun and laughter.
Absolutely the best laugh and golden oldie I loved from yesteryear children favourite I could listen to them all over and over, immense joy in these songs. Many thanks choir. ❤
I learned to play Leroy Anderson's "The Syncopated Clock" on the piano in 1959 and found it was the song used as the lead-in to a weekday afternoon show on TV. I was 9 years old and it was one of many things on a widening world, to which I was becoming very aware.
Wonderful to hear this song again! I remember visiting the Seychelles in the early 1970s, when James Mancham was the chief minister. Wherever he went on those lovely islands he took his band of Seychellois people, the Nightingales, with him and this song was sung regularly! The lead singer, a woman with a strong voice, gave it a very different sound and crowds of locals would gather outside with the band. Happy memories stirred by this entertaining performance! 😊
What a beautiful arrangement! I sang that as a child. Now that I'm a newly retiree, I'm still an active musician, playing piano guitars, percussion, and still singing! Thanks for this memory!❤❤❤
Thank you for this humorous and well - crafted rendition. Could someone post the words to this song? About 2 weeks ago I found myself spontaneously singing the first verse. The rest I have forgotten. I will be 80 on Christmas eve. My dad sang this in his choir near or in Hamilton, Ontario. There was a choir festival outdoors every year with a whole day of choral singing by adult choirs. It was a day of beauty and heavenly sound wrapping around us as we enjoyed the summer weather in the park at the Annual Choir Festival..
I met a lovely lady from oz while on holiday in Langkawi. We'd had a bit to drink and she suddenly started singing this. I'd totally forgotten it. When I asked her why she started singing it, she couldn't even remember singing!!😅😂. I'm 55 but it must be my grandma who sangria it!??❤😊
My mom taught me that song when I was very little. I am now 71 and still find myself singing it from time to time. No pun intended.
My mother also sang this and I think of it sometimes. Marvelous to randomly find it on youtube. I have remembered nearly every word of all the verses all these years.
I'm a couple years older than you and also find myself singing it.
