  • A classic folk song, the clock starts ticking when the old man is born, then time takes its toll. It was written in 1876 by Henry Clay Work
"Grandfather's Clock” is on my “Harps In Space” album at www.funnyharp.com/albums.html

I vividly remember sitting on my father’s knee when he sang this to me. I also remember crying about the old man dying. Later in life I learned my father was an orphan and had no father, let alone a grandfather to remember. The song still brings me to tears. I remember you Papa.

Actually, my comment was a reference to a horror video game wherein a security guard would have to keep winding up a music box singing to the tune of the Grandfather Clock to keep a haunted marionette at bay. Had to edit my comment after seeing this video again on a bigger screen. I noticed something odd and amusing: It's the _same man_ playing all the instruments! (Through modern video editing.) And I liked how all the musicians are very serious. It does remind me of a time back in the 1960's when the older folk in my extended family in Maine got together and played very old traditional songs with mandolins, fiddles, banjos, etc. I still say this is the best rendition I ever heard of "Grandfather's Clock".
