Thanks man. In going to give the commando a chance ... I can compensate slightly by adding more expo... just dull the center slightly. But at some point I'm sure I'll be radio shopping 😂
I'm a bit afraid to buy the Boxer bc of the bigger gimbals. I got big hands, but I can barely max out the stick of the Commando 8 already. So I'm quite frightened to buy a Boxer. How did you feel after swapping the C8 for a Boxer?
@@109haggy It really stabilized my flights by switching. It's probably just my style, but I found that I was just too jittery with the small sticks/gimbals on the C8. If its working for you, stick with it. I think its a great little controller!
4.5 is looking great! No drop when you hit GPS rescue! I belive that in order to stop the throttle pumps when landing you'll have to change the rpm setting on the rescue tab. I changed mines to 1350 rpm and that helped.
Thanks for the advice dude! 🙏. Im actually going to do a test with betaflight stock 4.5 settings. And see how gps rescue works , aswell as how the quad flies in general. As soon as the weather let's me 😭.
Hello from Northampton, good video mate. BF4.5 is looking promising. Think I will let it mature a bit before I leave 4.4. I’m not using GPS at the moment but I do want to do a build with GPS for some cheeky exploratory flying 👍
Thanks mate 😊. Tbh, with what I fly, if it flies well, that's all I'm bothered about. But... I am a fan of gps rescue. So for that reason I'm all up for trying the latest firmwares of any gps rth upgrades. Can't beat having a get me home back up button 😆
@@FPV-TV419 yeah it’s a must if you fly any open farm land like you were in the video hence the reason I would love a GPS setup on at least one quad. Look forward to watching more updates 👍
@TheGoodShepherdsSheep definitely mate. The only quad I dont have a gps unit on is the baby hawk. Main reason is not enough uarts on the fc, but also that's my little basher. I domt fly it far from me so it doesn't really need one. I'll be testing the nazgul on stock nf 4.5 default settings as soon as the weather picks up. See how it flies compared to the iflight tune, and retest gps rescue on stock pids etc
@@AlfieDoug I’m just flying local parks and trying to scope out some farm land around Northampton but it’s a little tricky to find reliable spots. A bit windy tomorrow but going to go out and get a few packs in anyway. 👍
Hi Fpv tv just found your channel you got some really good very helpful uploaded Videos , thanks, at time stamp about 1.31 you show the angle of the drone , may I ask what would the angle be if the drone was flying at full speed ? thanks Im new to fpv drones so will be checking out all of your excellent uploads .
Thanks ☺️. The angle I showed would just be a cruising angle. Flying at full speed the angle would naturally be steeper... but I couldn't tell you what the actual angle would be
Wow! Wow, that was awesome! So, I've got this Chimera7, and I decided to give the BF4.5 update a shot. But here's the thing - it seems like I'd lose all those factory settings if I go for it... Any tips? It'd mean a lot to me because I'm always out there flying in the mountains, dealing with deep snow and crazy winds. I really need to nail those landings
Thanks 🙏. There's some great videos on you tube about upgrading between bf versions. And upgrading to 4.5 specifically. Most important though, is do not just load a diff all/ dump from an earlier version of bf onto 4.5. That will likely end badly. There's a couple of ways to safely upgrade to a newer version. Joshua Bardwell has a video out this week talking about upgrading to 4.5. Head over to his channel and hopefully that will help you 😁
I noticed that you checked for heat on the motors and the battery. My question is how hot was the 03 air unit? The reason I ask is because the only Iflight product I've had was the Evoque V2 deadcat, and the 03 in that burned up inside a dozen flights. I have four other 03's, and they're just fine.
Hey, yea I checked for heat on the motors and battery due to running the iflight tune on 4.5 The 03 unit is always hot, even flying in cold temps it's still very warm. It's the same on any quad I've had. But I've never had one fail due to heat .... they usually shut down before they fail.... even more of a reason for gps rescue 😆
Yea sadly you got unlucky somehow man. We have 3 iflight quads, f5, f6 and the f4 and zero problems with any of the air units as well. Iflight is like the only company that adds a heatsink to the airunit .
That jerky landing has to do with your gps hover settings the better those are the smoother it is. And make shore you use same size weight battery blade pitch everything changes the way it lands. I went from 5 deg pitch blades to 2 deg pitch to see what the difference was and yea buddy it comes down quick and pulses the motors hard so . The hover setting is really important to get close.
Great info thanks. I did set the throttle hover accurately... however the pitch of the props could be an issue. I'm not really too bothered, it comes back and lands which is all I need it to do for the amount of times I'll ever need to use gps rescue properly I suppose
The iflight tune that comes with this quad does seem very smooth. (It was 4.3) so transfered to 4.5. But I am going to test completely stock 4.5 settings also. To compare that to the iflight tune. I'll do this is if ever stops raining in the UK 😆
@@FPV-TV419 oh so if you copied settings over, then probably should lower PIDs for throttle for GPS rescue. They were pretty high. Oh yeah, use default PIDs for throttle GPS
@IvanEfimovLimon I'm not sure what u mean for default throttle pids? I am going to have to learn to tune a bit 😆. I have now briefly tested complelty stock 4.5 pids. And it does fly very well. It does feel a little slack compared to the iflight tune. On stock 4.5 (with correct throttle hover values) it still jerks on decent when gps rescue landing. 🤷
@@FPV-TV419 yeah there are separate PIDs in CLI for just throttle while its doing a GPS thing. And if you transfered them from 4.3 or 4.4 they are higher than what a person usually needs, and it leads to these throttle swings on GPS descend. Cli names are like that: GPS_RESCUE_THROTTLE_P, GPS_RESCUE_THROTTLE_I, GPS_RESCUE_THROTTLE_D
@IvanEfimovLimon thanks dude 🙏. I'll have a look at that! Do you have a video on your channel relating to this issue? Love your channel btw! Regular viewer!
I love having a gps module on all my quads. For what little they cost, and how easy it is to set up, it's a great failsafe feature. Especially now it lands it self and seems to be pretty reliable.
Hi pal, glad it’s worked out for you, bit of a noob question but how do I manually copy settings from 4.4 ? When I look online it says backup and then reload the settings ?
Hey. The reason you shouldnt copy settings via a cli diff all or dump is that other settings in a newer version of betaflight could be gone, or renamed. So you'll get errors. The best way to do it (and I'm no expert lol) is to take photos of all the settings on every tab in bf. Then install the new bf 4.5, load the default settings, then go through each tab an manually copy all your settings from your photos. Most of the settings would be the same anyway....and it doesn't take long to do. But if you try and Copy an earlier version and load that into a newer version of bf, you'll see errors in the cli
Hi I just update to the 4.5 and I copy manual all settings and quad fly ok, only I don't know with expresslrs presets use 150Hz or 250Hz. I can't find answer for that question
Tbh I didn't do anything with elrs presets... my tx is running at 500hz ... it was set at that when I got it. So I left it at that. I haven't had any issues with elrs connection either before or after updating bf firmware. 🤔
Saw your post on FB too... Looks like it flies really nice and smooth -are you using any gyroflow type image stabilsation, or does the quad just fly that smooth?
The dvr footage is not stabilised. The footage where there's no osd, this is 03 using rock steady. So some of the flight footage is stabilised, but the dvr isn't so gives you an idea of how smooth it really is. It's very stable 🙂
Thanks, I'm going to try the stock betaflight 4.5 settings, and see how the quad flies, and gps rescue. See how it compares to the iflight tune I flew with on this video
My back up file is exactly the same as the 4.4 file the quad came with. I then manually input all the settings into 4.5 , if there were any settings in 4.5 that are not in 4.4 , then I left those as stock 4.5 settings. It might not have been the best way to do it. But it seems to fly the same, with no issues
My best advice would be to check out videos already on RUclips for 4.4 , there really isn't any difference in how you set it up between the 2 versions. I'm sure there's already many videos out there that will help you set up gps rescue better than I could 😊
Easily cruise at 60mph... top speed probably 100mph but I wouldn't say that's a usable speed in terms of still being able to control it for filming. But anything that sits comfortably at 60mph for car chases etc.. id say is pretty fast.
The Commando 8... those light sticks were the reason I moved to a Boxer. Havent regretted the change one bit.
Great 4.5 review!
