Developed countries will tend to be racist since they will look down on less developed. They'll think that they're more educated since their economy is better, but little did they know, education is important in poor countries. Brown skin? You look more like a mixed Asian Filipino. Yes I told her I’m half Mexican & my father is from Guam. She told me I knew you were different. Your father’s family probably has Japanese or Chinese in them. Me yeah we do. I asked her are you okay with me. She said yes because my children will be half Mexican & Korean. Around 90% of counterfeit brands worldwide are produced in China, and there have been numerous instances where Chinese people have launched copied versions of Korean variety shows without purchasing the rights. They also make absurd claims that traditional Korean cultural elements like kimchi, taekwondo, and hanbok are theirs. Some even go as far as to say that Jesus and the pyramids originated in China. This unbroken chain of slavery was maintained by the ruling class, with no significant disruptions or breaks throughout Korean history.

The worst of it, you know now, has taken form 300-400 years ago. Otherwise, it acted more as factionalism, with some having more privilege and others having fewer rights. So, it cannot be equated to slavery. Yes, it was one of the worst inventions of the human mind, but you have to understand that the system was far more complicated than that; if it was really as cruel as Western historians have generalised it to be, it could not have stood the tests of time, would have been overthrown with brute force of masses during its 4000+ period of existence.

@@kimsim6757 I don’t think (and hope) your message had the intention to sound condescending. As such, I must apologize for my mistake. But to answer your question, Kenya and SKorea officially began their diplomatic tie in February 1964 (Yeo Sung-Jun, 2024). The years 1963-1964 were also the start of Kenya’s independence from the British Empire, becoming the sovereign state that stands today (University of Central Arkansas, 2014). Thus, from a post-colonization and post-war context lived by both Kenya and South Korea, this relation might had emerged from a need for alliance between two emerging countries (in the context of the 1960s).
Economically, SKorea benefits as much from Kenya than Kenya does from SKorea. Kenya’s geography is rich in primary ressources. As technology progress, the demand and need for those ressources increase. South Korea might be more technologically advanced, but to create these technologies, it must all come from somewhere. Our demands for the semiconductor industry increase for our demands on specific ressources that African communities such as Kenya (in East Africa) or the Congo (in Central Africa) possess.
As for the recovery aid sent from Kenya to South Korea during postwar Korea, I could only find information on Wikipedia. More research on my part would thus be needed to fact check that claim, but I hope you’ve learned something on the importance of diplomatic ties with countries and communities within the African subcontinent.

The Chinese were just as cruel towards its northern neighbours if not more. Of course, this historical/cultural aspect may have a lot of impact on prejudice in Korean society regarding foreigners today, but I wouldn't fault the Joseon and old Korean societies just for having the sinocentric mindset; it was quite inevitable. To me, the claim this video makes feels somewhat equivalent to "the Romans viewed the Germanic people to be barbaric and persecuted them; they got karma when western rome eventually fell and the ostrogoths conquered Italy."

Japanese racism is polite. You wouldn't know what they're thinking since they have the grace to kept to themselves in the presence of someone they don't like (prohibiting foreigners from entering their store is the most extreme, but there's reason for that, and it's on the bad behavior of foreigners so can't complain about it). Maybe you will feel alienated, but it's better than hearing insult about you, your race and your country in front of your face. I haven't yet encountered blatant Chinese racism in the social medias, though (I should see more videos, I think). I mean, all the foreign people visiting there seem to be pleased enough. And this country have minorities with faces wildly different from the Han Chinese. So they probably more tolerant (especially if you can speak Mandarin). I might be wrong and maybe there are racism somewhere (billion of people without prejudice seems to be impossible).

It was a common theme in East Asian countries throughout the ages. Chinese, Japanese, and Korean all have beauty standards in paler skin tone. However I do not believe it was a racial thing, but more of a social status of the time. Upper society women doesn't have to work the field as the peasant class and naturally would have a paler skin tone as they spend less time under the sun, which also create a preference of paler skin tone being more desirable.

They don't seem to think that discrimination is inherently a bad thing. I called out a Ytber named Hans why on this but he keeps deleting and reporting the comments that point out the problem. The Ytber’s channel is mostly focused on Asian-American empowerment, speaking out against Asian hate, and criticizing others for discrimination but he keeps denying the criticism thrown at Asians with the same logic the people he criticizes do. Not a bad guy but it feels as if these people have created an echo chamber that doesn't let them criticize their own.

Just a foreigner passed by. Personally I don't mind people who racist or judged others based on wealth, skin colors, nationality, etc. Not because I'm perfect but because it reflects who they are, not those whom they judged. It reflects how proper raised by their parents, how well they were educated (education does not means how high or good the education system. The ultimate goal of it is to teach you how to think which will develop your character), their society and environment, etc. There are things we cannot choose eg. complexion, places you born, etc., of which we don't have to take any responsibility. However what you do to others is something you can choose. That's the most important thing and your full responsibility. What I said is something -- from my experience -- many S. Korean could not understand I give up to explain anything to them. What make me laugh inside is that why somebody said they are racist they would not take it and argue to the death although tons of cases happened. Search for both cases and their comments and you'll see. Well, how could you change anything if you don't admit there are problems. You blind yourself.

As a Korean, I tell the truth to those who are making videos or spreading false information based solely on the impression received from brief visit to Korea.
Because Korea is a racially homogeneous country, there is no tradition of racial discrimination. There cannot be the same standards of discrimination as in the United States or Europe because there are not many different races.
However, since Korea is not a paradise, of course there is discrimination, and this discrimination is not based on race but based on appearance, education, wealth, occupation, and intelligence. And this discrimination applies to both Koreans and foreigners.
No matter what dark skin color you have, whether you are black, Indian, or Southeast Asian, you will not be discriminated against if you are beautiful, rich, or smart. Rather, you will be respected. On the other hand, Western racism only discriminates based on race, regardless of other conditions.
Let me be clear: Even if you are Korean or white, you will be discriminated against if you are ugly.
If you felt discriminated against when you came to Korea, it was probably because you looked ugly or poor. So if you dress up nicely and wave the keys of your Lamborghini, we can be friendly right away. ;)
This is why Koreans constantly take care of their appearance and are obsessed with money and academic background. Your inner self has nothing to do with it. Your material things define your social class, and that is your worth. This is the general thinking of Koreans.
If someone feels that the other person is inferior to them, that person often immediately look down on them. Of course, on the other hand, he may be looked down upon too. And this is the part that makes Koreans the most angry, to the point of losing their senses - being looked down by others.
Therefore, although Koreans can be said to be ultra materialistic, we cannot be said to be racist.

Here's a story I will tell you. There were a group of Koreans in Vietnam at a restaurant. And guess what. There was a group of Aussies and white people at another table. The Vietnamese servers only serviced the white group first even though they came later. And they ignored the Koreans and the Koreans were angry and mad because they thought that they were somehow superior to the Vietnamese and southeast Asians. It was at that moment that they realized that the Vietnamese did not see any difference between Asians. And Koreans realized that they were still garba*e compared to white European people. This was perhaps one of the most hilarious moments I witnessed

    • @RjlpqeQs
      @RjlpqeQs Месяц назад

I am laughing at you and your thinking level. So tell me. Did you think it was right thing to do to ignore the people who came earlier and served those white group even though they came later? What made you think those Korean people were upset because "they were somehow superior to the Vietnamese"? What's got to do with thinking superior to Vietnamese and asking for the right treatment? And did they say, they think of themselves as they are superior to Vietnamese? Isn't that natural to get upset when they were dismissed intentionally just because they are not 'white European', according to you? Is that how people think in Vietnam? So, you think white European people are better than Asian people so they deserve to be treated better and speedy in your mind? Is that why Vietnamese didn't fight when they were colonized by France? Where is your self esteem? Don't you feel you are the same as those white European people and you want to be treated as such from Korean? Would you be okay with Korean people serve you after the white European people in the restaurant, since you are less than white European people? Wow, is this cultural difference or your own self esteem issue? Have some pride in you, dear Vietnamese. you are a valuable person as much as any ethnic group.
If you don't respect yourself, no one is going to respect you. What an odd imbalance in Asian people! Korean has too much high esteem and Vietnamese has too low self esteem. I pity your life. Love yourself, dear. you deserve as much as other people whether they are white or black or even if you are Vietnamese. As far as I am concerned, Vietnamese people I've met was very proud people. I thought they have very healthy regards about themselves. Did I misunderstand about Vietnamese? Don't go around embarrass your Vietnamese.

It was difficult to understand the comments. I didn't know that Southeast Asian people really hate Korea. Have you ever visited Korea? Have you ever really visited? No one will pay any attention to you, let alone discriminate against you. Most people know that this is just a novel based on jealousy. In the first place, it is interesting to compare Japan, which pays differential wages to foreign workers, and Korea, which pays the same wages to Koreans. Perhaps they are jealous because Korea has recently become a developed country.

Respect for speaking up about something that gets massively overlooked. This is true in other East Asian countries as well, where for example, people from historically richer regions of China would look down in bigotry against people from other places (Shanghai vs. the rest of China, Hong Kongers against Mainlanders, for example, are especially prevalent), and do I even have to mention Japan's entrenched xenophobia intertwined racism.
Part of this stems from the extreme competition pressures East Asians grew up with, which instilled into our people that somehow one MUST be better in some shape for form than others. Their identity stems from being "better" than others, as that's what puts you on the top of society. It doesn't matter how good or talented you are, you must be BETTER and MORE talented than your peers.
That is a zero sum game, a trap that all East Asian countries are deeply sunk in. East Asians even carry it over seas, as similar discrimination against often times our OWN PEOPLE are present overseas, albeit in different forms. This is extremely sad, and needs to be talked about more and faced. Props to you, ❤Keep it up brother!

I never had anything done to my body or face like plastic surgery. I just eat well, grace of genes and exercise. They would ask from where i am and when i say “Philippines” they get kinda shocked then would ask if im pure filipino. One korean older woman when she asked and i told her i am filipino she got shocked and said i am too pretty for a filipino. Wooooowww just wow the audacity of some koreans who look down on us SEAs. Michael J.Seth argues in his book as follows:
"China provided the model for literature, art, music, architecture, dress, and etiquette.
From China Koreans imported most of their ideas about government and politics.
They accepted the Chinese worldview in which China was the centre of the universe
and home of all civilization, and its emperor the mediator between heaven and earth.
Koreans took pride in the adherence to Chinese cultural norms...
They accepted their country's role as a subordinate member of the international hierarchy
in which China stood at the apex, loyal adherents of Chinese culture such as Korea ranked
next, and the barbarians outside Chinese civilization stood at the bottom.
Close adherence to civilized standards was a source of pride."
("A History of Korea," Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, 2010, p.4-5)
In fact, most of the Koreans seem deeply affected by such a stale and wicked thought
(rendered as "mini-sinocentrism") as this even now.
Therefore, they tend to belittle other Asians including even the Japanese (and their
former master, that is, the Chinese people recently).
In sum, it can be said that the Koreans' racism, or xenophobia, is basically ascribed to
    the so-called "Sino-barbarian dichotomy."

      being "Chinese-like" in every aspect.
You Koreans always boast of "The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty (조선왕조실록)"
because it was registered in UNESCO's "Memory of the World Program" In 1997,
      right?
Now, one of this Joseon kings annals,'Gojong, vol.36 (고종실록 고종 36권)',
      says as follows:
"Our territories used to be the land of Han 漢 and Tang 唐 in ancient times.
Both the official clothing code and cultural products conformed to the ones of Song 宋.
The social systems along with our governance system are to be adopted to
      the ones of Ming 明.
It is rightful and legal to inherit the true name of China and its culture"
Also, "Taejo of Goryeo's Ten Rules" (高麗太祖 訓要十条; 왕이 훈요10조를
      내리다) says,
"We, the East, admire the customs of Tang Dynasty, and learn both its
