My husband was given 3 years to live with agressive prostate cancer. He was told if he did conventional treatments radiation, surgery, chemo he might get 5 years. He did none of the conventional treatments we changes our lifestyle to a whole foods plant based diet and he is alive and healthy going on 14 years now.

WOW! This was a good one! Happy I discovered this GREAT documentary. I'm from Sweden, living in Norway, and I have been in a WFPB lifestyle for 4 years now. I did it for health reasons but after a very short time in it I discovered that I not only became healthier and that the arthritis pain was gone, but I also became stronger and got much more energy. I'm 62 y.o now and I'm healthier than I have ever been. As a former hockey player and boxer, I thought everything was over after I passed 50. But today I am thriving in the gym, building lean muscles and cardio. I love my diet!

I absolutely agree. I was finally diagnosed with MS at 30, but had problems for well over a decade. I lost all of my 20’s to MS (and other chronic health conditions).
I have come off almost all of my medications, reversed prediabetes, and put my MS into remission thanks to diet (and exercise). Highly recommended looking into Terry Whals, she is absolutely incredible.

This was so excellent and a reminder of what I learned years ago when I had Sarcoidosis. I happened to come across the "anti-sarcoid diet" and I employed it. When next I visited my rheumatologist she said: "We don't know why you're in remission." To which I replied: "Yes, we do -- here" (advancing the diet in my hand.) She refused to even look at it.
It's so easy to forget when we have some mysterious ailment (which I have currently) that diet is so important because with our current medical system it doesn't focus on making patients well -- it focuses on just medicating them. I NEED TO REVAMP MY DIET! And while I have never eaten fast food I need to give up animal products -- and I will!

@@CharGC123 Exactly. Here is my story. I used to eat meat and dairy but thought I was eating a healthy diet. I did drink soy milk, but got scared of soy so I quit. I then started using whey protein powder to try to gain muscle. I developed a lump in my chest. Breast cancer in men is rare, but possible. I went to my doctor, and he put me through a series of tests for cancer. I researched what I could eat to help my chances. The documentary "Forks Over Knives" convinced me. I dumped the whey and switched to a mostly Whole Food Plant Based vegan diet. By the time I was supposed to have a biopsy, they weren't able to get a sample, because my lump had shrunk so much. I felt so much more energy on my new diet, so I kept it. I then learned the facts about why others have gone fully vegan. I went 100% around the age of 60. I am now in my mid 60's, and never felt better. I get glowing reports from my doctor and need no prescriptions. Both my siblings have had heart disease, gall bladder removal, type 2 diabetes, cancer, or a combination. One of my brothers is older, and one is younger than I am.

      It's mostly fermented soy.
Soy "milk" is not a healthy way to consume it.
I drink water and try to eat mostly raw ripe fresh organic alkaline produce to heal.
Grains are also very inflammatory and nuts and legumes can also cause issues and can't be eaten raw anyway. Maybe sprouted is an alternative. Microgreens are very healthy, too!

My doc wanted me on a statin. She also said my fasting glucose of 113 was fine. My kidney function hit a temporary low of 59 EGFR but she wasn't worried since the nephrologist said it was likely just because I was obese. Um, that worried me even though she told me I shouldn't be! I spent 6 months studying my blood work, studying ideal diets for heart health and kidney health, tracking my fasting glucose....in 6 months I went from a BMI of 35 if I remember right not an over weight BMI. My fasting glucose was 94 at my next appointment. My EGFR went from 59.1 to 84. And my cholesterol was normal. My resting heart rate dropped too into the range of an athlete even though I wasn't exercising much at all. Had I just listened to my doc she likely would have put me on the statins which I hear can effect blood sugar negatively...which, in turn, can cause more kidney issues. My mom is a T2D due to obesity. Recently had part of her foot amputated. She refuses to turn her diet around or even take insulin. My doc might not have been worried about my blood sugar but I am glad I am. I have since lost a total of 70 pounds bringing my BMI down to 23.4. My resting heart rate lowering the entire time. My doc has yet to put me on any medications. Now I never did go solely plant based. I took my blood work, studied it, studied diets to lower cholesterol and fasting blood sugar but raise kidney function. Worked out a balanced diet from this, tried it for a few months until my next blood work and was going to tweak it from there. Didn't need to. A Mediterranean/Dashish/plant based/full fat dairy/ lean meat diet worked for me. I suggest you get blood work done and workout a diet that works specifically for your body. I truly don't believe there is a one size fits all diet that cures everyone.

My BMI went from 35 (if i remember right) to 23. My kidney function jumped 25 EGFR points.... but one month before my next blood work my family stocked up on beef so I ate way more beef than usual. My next blood work showed a 10 point drop in my EGFR and my cholesterol was high again. Beef is not my friend. But cutting out all meat and dairy wasn't my answer either. I still eat full fat dairy and lean meats. A lot of nuts also. But I limit beef now. We'll see what my next blood work shows. I don't believe in a one size fits all answer. Get your blood work done twice a year and study it. Eat to improve your specific numbers. When everything balances out, that's your ideal diet.

What if one was on a whole foods plant based diet and they still fall ill with autoimmune diseases that completely disable a person? Nothing wrong with the environment, plenty of exercise and life in nature. Then what does one do? I think we also need to investigate into the other side of the story. Many people have healed their autoimmune issues with meat and fat only. Plenty of success stories no matter what modality one picks, plenty of scientific studies showing success with a variety of foods both animal and plant based. I think the most relevant aspect of healing with foods is finding out which one works for the individual afflicted with disease. The plant based route has always been tempting for me and I thought I was doing myself a favor by being plant based by supposedly warding off disease from the get go. That did not work for me. My salads of greens and seeds and legumes, my smoothies of kale and nuts/seeds, my beautiful dishes of plant based soups and veggie patties, spices and herbs etc thrust me into autoimmune issues post illness that I am now on year 8 and still grappling with. Nothing against plants but if we seriously consider food to be our medicine, it would be wise to first study the disease and find the most suitable medicine to treat it and not worry if the medicine came from plants or animals.

You know, not for nothing, but you need to distinguish between casein 1 and casein 2. There is a difference. The majority of Americans consume casein 1 which is found in red meat and dairy products! Here in the Good Old U.S.A. And the industries push it. Which includes some if not a lot of medical professionals? Do not forget they also push pharmaceuticals.

Yes you can turn gene on and off with diet. Every one is different, we all have different needs, I believe is based on the amount of different species of bacteria in the gut. As vegetables, fruits, meat, butter, fermented foods can feed same types of these bacteria. When ever I go on completely plant based diet, even though I have enough protein from it, I star to feel weak in as little as two weeks. I put together the diet that works best for me, I put together the fruits that par well together and only eat fruits for one day a week, then next few days I eat mostly various vegetables cooked and same raw, then one day I eat only meat I include chicken, beef, liver and fish in one day. one day I eat only nuts and seeds soaked, in the day I eat only meat and fresh cooked tomatoes, then drink lemonade during the day maximize my iron absorption. when I eat beans I make I cook it with pigs skin to add lots of colagen. I Have been trying to cut out completely coffee and the raw cheese that I love. In the days of fruits only I eat also dehydrated bananas coated in pure dark chocolate powder as a treat. In the days of vegetables only I make sure I eat as much as possible of different greens . So far this is my best diet. I eat every vegetables, every fruit, available. And eat only freshly cooked meats , no frozen, non preservatives package, and NON to processed meat and non to sausage.

Humans are omnivores, grains and mass agriculture only came about during the last 10,000 years, we've been eating meat and fish for much longer and some cultures even survived and thrived on mostly animal diets. Also this documentary didn't mention at all the anti-nutrients found in grains/vegetables (phytic acid, oxalates) and how you need to ferment and sprout them to get the full benefits. Plus we need saturated fat, half of the fat in human breast milk is saturated fat, and science is starting to show that some of these fats (like pentadecanoic acid) are essential. This is not to say all animal products are good, there is no shortage of poor animal foods like cured meats with chemicals, beef from cows fed roundup ready corn and soy, farmed fish, caged chicken fed fishmeal contaminated with PCBs and PFAS, etc, but avoiding nutrient dense, chemical-free animal foods does more harm than good.
In addition, most people who are on a plant based diet are more than likely to gain weight due to the high carbs causing constant blood glucose and thus insulin spikes. Look up the carbohydrate-insulin model and how it implies that a plant based diet is not good for losing weight. I would like to see the reporter try a ketogenic diet with whole foods and see how it impacts her body fat levels.

What protein comes from plants? People are not herbivores, herbivores have four stomachs and hooves, many have tails and horns as well. They regergitate their more than once and never stop eating all day.
We have the same digestive system as a lion or a worlf. You only have look and see the similarities.
If you're thinking now that monkeys and gorillas are herbivores, you're quite wrong. They require just as much B12 and other animal produce as we do. They eat their own and their mate's poop. Other herbivore types are forced to do the same, rabbits etc.
All creatures kill, like it or not we have to kill to survive. There's no such thing as a non-killer.
