    Got one just like it, love it. So useful blade shape, and robust. The Hudson Bay trade blanket is cool too.

    Your right about buying great gear only once and it being able to last and pass it on. Great review.

    I have both the PLSK 1 and the Scout and agree with you, I like both knives and it depends on what I'm doing at the time which knife I carry. One tool option and teaching class it's the PLSK 1. Hunting large game and doing bushcraft work, I like the scout. It's nice to have options. My son will still be using these works of art long after I'm gone. Nice review. Take care.

    I've been trying to get the SOSPES knife for a few years now. I guess LT is no longer making these Tarzan replica knives which is a real shame!
    Please let LT know we would greatly appreciate him putting this beauty back in production and if you're wanting one please let LT know it!
    Just looking at the SOSPES knife makes me feel like fighting an alligator!

    Great video again. You saw a Becker break, say it aint so! Love these vids man, and you are right, buy the best the first time rather than just ok stuff a bunch of times. Boots, mattress, blade, whatever, it applies in most cases.

    I have been coveting a PLSK1 for a year now and the scout since they put it out. I love both knives, I like that scout carry sheath you got from voyager also. I gotta talk to him about one after I get my great knife, Interesting that you interjected on breaking knives. I have broke 2 Ka-bars in my life. both were marine fighting knives. I'll never buy another Ka-bar/Becker/Cutco knife ever again. And I agree with you on handing stuff down to people, I buy either knife and when In 30 years I'm too dang old to get dirt time anymore I can give it to my grandson and He can use it till he is ready to give it to his kids or Grandkids. Great video Bro.

    first time commenter here. But i got to say thanks for another great vid. i love that you have a more woodsman than survival feel to your vids. on to the question. i have been looking at the scout for a while now, and trying to decide between it and the diving sparrow northern bushcraft tool (because i cant afford both). what are the chances you will do a comparison in the future?

    Beautiful Knives both of them. I have followed you and Chris for quite sometime now. I know this is almost a Two year old video, but is your PLSK Scout still your primary knife or have you found a new love?

  • @usawcraig1
    @usawcraig1 8 лет назад

    I've always heard you want at least a 3/16" blade width. Is there any worries on the 5/32" blade on the scout? Is the warranty good enough that you could baton through 4" logs with no worries?

    Don't get me wrong, I like Blind Horse Knives, especially my flattened polished canvas micarta bushcrafter, beautiful, and very functional, but I really started to get into my Swamp Rat's, in this class, three to come to mind, my Ratmandu, a Rodent 6, with the top gaurd taken off, it looks like a Ratmandu on steriods, beautiful, I luv Saber Grinfs, but add a Choil, and it's like two knives in one, that's why my Rodent 7, which I recently received is becoming my (one of) favorite camp knives, that choil will do that, and that's why I'll pick the Swamp Rat over the Blind Horse anyday, and the SR101 is better in my opinion, but I like my Blind Horse too, especially what your showing.

    I also have a question for you brother, what camera are you using. I need a new one for videos that a dummy can use but that will still film well even in low light. I do alot on the appalachian trail and the lighting is not always the most ideal.

  • @DougWilsonyellowhawkcustoms
    @DougWilsonyellowhawkcustoms 9 лет назад

    Brother, its like you are in my head about the grind and finer wood working. A saber grind is more gradual and it feathers easier etc.

    This video reminds me to "BUY NICE, or BUY TWICE" Money sure won't buy Happiness...however good money spend on good gear will surely improve my bargaining position in a real life Survival situation. Cheers ;-))

    Hi Will, realy cool knife, I might order one in a medium short future (finances permitting). For now I use the (in)famous BK2, and I love that knife dearly. I would like jour opinion of that knife: you probably have students that show up with it once in a while. So, aside from the relative low price (in Europe, they are realy not that cheap, I paid mine 107€, 147$), what do you think of that knife?

    • @WilliamMyersmantisoutdoors
      @WilliamMyersmantisoutdoors  10 лет назад

      its a stout knife thats for sure im not a fan of the handles but they are ok i like a more round handles i dont think you will ever run in to a problem with that knife ive seen people process wood all weekend with it without any problem... it will serve you well for years

    I thought this was a great video! My question is this, if you could get the PLSK1 with a saber grind would that be preferable over the Scout? I ask because I am looking at the BHK Highlander vs Scout Platoon which each come in both grinds. Looking for a knife that won't be too large or heavy for camp use, but still substantial. Thanks for the great videos. - Tim

    • @tomjeffersonwasright2288
      @tomjeffersonwasright2288 8 лет назад +1

      +Tim Ennenbach Take an old butter knife to a grinder, and put an edge on it. Then go out in the woods for a couple of weeks and use it. At the end of that time you will know what you want, and not depend on sponsored experts to tell you what to buy.

    • @tomjeffersonwasright2288
      @tomjeffersonwasright2288 8 лет назад +1

      Bama Prepper Do you think it is better to follow the advice of some sponsored "reviewer" who is paid to say the knife is good? Or do you think a woodsman spends his day batoning firewood and making feather sticks? ANY knife will do for a short camping trip. I have gone 3 months with only a Case Sod Buster folding pocket knife as a cutting tool. You just don't do that much cutting. Experience is a far, far greater adviser than some paid shill.

      I owned a Bk7 and I am not surprised. the steel that Becker uses is terrible. I095 needs a really good heat treat to be really tough and the beckers don't have it. I used it twice and was so disappointed with the steel that I sold the custom Kydex sheath I bought for it and included the knife for free. Lesson learned

    With all due respect i think you would do a far better job making feathersticks with your neck knife.These big knives are unyielding for precision chores. I would pick a 4inch blade and small forest axe over a piece of steel like that

      It's cool all views, opinions and comments are welcomed... I've found I can do most things with a larger blade myself with practice, obviously my 4" BHK Woodcrafter or Mora etc maybe better at some smaller tasks, however I think it's a good idea to practice with both in case either one becomes your only option. I have no experience with the Scout however I have a 5 1/2" high scandi that performs finer tasks very well and imagine the saber grind on the Scout makes for the same case.

    The Pacific Crest Trail and the Appalachian Trail are trips that take about 6 months. How many thru-hikers, spending 6 months on the trail, camping and hiking, carry one of those overweight and overpriced "survival knives"? Real life outdoorsmen, like trappers, use a light knife with a long curved belly, like Grohman's Canadian Belt Knife. In my last trip, 7 months outdoors, I did everything I needed to do, and most of what I wanted to do, with a Case Sod Buster folding pocket knife.
    How long will you "survive" loaded up like a miner's jack ass with oversized and overweight gear?
