  • Here is a quick review on a modern classic woodsman knife, the Pathfinder Scout Knife. This is an older knife built by Blind Horse Knives. The knife is strong, nimble, and is heirloom quality.

Great review Jamie. I have the Blind Horse PLSK1 before the split and it is a great knife with the scandi grind but with it being 3/16 inch think, it has always felt rather heavy and cumbersome when fine carving. I also have a platoon scout which I got made with a scandi grind and maple handles. It is a great feeling knife but being scandi ground means there is a lot more steel left on the blade which makes it a heavier knife as well. They are both classics now and while I rarely ever use either of them, I love them both and am glad I own them. Take care.

Black Hat Bushcraft I so have an old logo plsk 1. I don't use it much any more but I fully understand the enjoyment of owning a classic.

Never cared for the PLSK1, but I have had this one, with full flat grind, for ten years now. Great knife! Not the best for working wood, but a great all-around tool; that can work wood, can process fish & game, and can be a utility cutter for all types of bush tasks. Just make sure you patina it, and carry good sharpening stones for it. Mine has curly maple scales, and have held up very well. Remember, this is a general purpose knife, not a specialty blade.

I like my scout too. It's my go to hunting knife, aside from my buffalo skinner which I carry every day. You could easily have the Scout reprofiled to a scandy grind my man.

One Foot In The Wild thanks for watching. There is not much meat left on this flat grind. I am afraid a regrind would radically change the profile.

Have you checked out the LT Sospes designed by William Meyers? Might be of interest for your liking.
