Highly recommend PKS. They make solid knives that you won’t be afraid to use. I have some higher end knives for hunting but PKS is a great option for camp chores and getting serious work done.
I own a lot of knives and my go-to is the Scorpion. Its "dirty by design" makes it so you'll use it and yet it's still elegant and good looking. A confession here: I've pimped it out. To put it bluntly it trumps all the other knives because of its utilitarian bombproof nature.
Thanks for the updated video on the Pathfinder Knife Shop line of knives. I’ve got several of the Jeff White knives purchased from Self Reliance Outfitters (SRO) years ago. They are still providing good service for me to this date. I appreciate all the folks at SRO. - Tennessee Smoky
I've found that very, very few mass produced blades come close to meeting the minimum expectations I have. That said, I studied under a master bladesmith and began making my own knives. First I did stock-removal blades to learn to ebb-and-flow of a blades planes, curves, and lines, before learning to forge from scratch. Now almost 10 years on I still enjoy my craft. A bit long winded I know, but I say all this because I believe anyone that wants to learn, should. I am a big fan of Mr. Canterbury and his work as a survivalist and firmly believe he knows exactly what to expect from a blade and find his enthusiasm in supporting and providing quality blades admirable.
Thank you, Dave! It's nice to see someone making time-tested tools with time-tested materials. Nothing against new super steels, they're great, but when your reputation rests on a product tried and true is the way to go. Thank you for all the priceless knowledge and a bullet proof tool to apply that knowledge with.
I own 4 PKS knives. Two are discontinued, the Grizzly and the Black Bear. The Black Bear being one my most favorite knives in my entire collection of knives as a sub 5" blade second only to my Bark River Cub EDC. Both the Grizzly and the Black Bear are excellent knives, mine have walnut scales. If the PKS was to ever produce these two models again with canvas micarta scales, I would buy two more just because. That’s how impressed I am with these two models. I also own the Mountaineer and the Wildcat, both are excellent knives and they both have canvas micarta scales. And when Dave says the the knives are guaranteed, that is very much the case. I had some minor issues with the blades of the Grizzly and the Black Bear when I purchased them, I contacted SRO and they replaced both knives no hassle whatsoever. The leather sheaths that they offer are very good quality and well worth the price. Buy PKS knives with confidence that you will receive a quality product, money well spent. Many thanks to Dave and the folks at SRO and PKS.

Ethan Becker actually has 1 of the last original kepharts and makes one as close as he can as well. The PKS and Becker kepharts are two knives I definitely have high on my list for no other reason than they’re awesome historically speaking as well as practical use.
I bought one of your cheapest price knives about Three years ago, It is more a camp knife I think, but I couldn't be happier to own it. I keep it in the kitchen now as my wife loves it as much as I do! And happy to say its used daily several times. So thank you sir! 1095 Rocks!
I own 4 PKS knives. The discontinued Mountain Lion HD, the Corporal Kelly Camp & Trail and 2 Scorpion XLs; one of which I won in a raffle from Dave at the Atlanta Blade Show last year and now belongs to my daughter. Great knives. Love 'em. But, then again, I am a knife-a-holic. I would like to see the Grizzly HD make a come back, though.
I love the Kephart that I got from SRO. Wicked sharp... just wicked sharp. Even with the Scandi grind I can use it for kitchen task as well as process reasonably sized wood for a fire, especially with the sharp spine. When I wanted a Kephart, I chose yours Dave.
Well said Sir, spoken like a true Smith, Engineer and Bushcrafter! I look forward to the next time I'm in the states and I will try and factor in a catch up with you. All the best from the Englishman, down under 🤠👍
I ordered three back in 2017, I think that was the year that you started putting them out. Anyway, I have the original scorpion HD which I purchased for myself. I purchased two phantom ||’s and gave them away as gifts. My scorpion is still my go to knife and believe me when I say I have a lot of knives to choose from.
Great knives. Tops Tracker in 1095 has been in use in the sopping wet PNW mountains processing firewood and getting pitch wood from rotten stumps since 2008, hasn’t died yet. Have used it for pounding tent stakes etc. Very much comparable to the Mountaineer knife. I can tell that one’s a winner for survival. I can’t bear to use the Red Scorpion Six WSK for these tasks. Cheers 🍻 🎶Meet me down by the railroad track, track. 🎶
I got my Mountaineer a few days ago and I'm really happy with it, the price point is why i bought it the $300 knives i just can't do it i did years ago and felt bad abusing it. I chose to not buy the sheath as i like a side carry on my belt not a fan of something hanging down my side. Thanks Dave.
I lost my Mountain Lion when my car was totaled. I bought a Scorpion to hold its place but I’m still gutted. I loved that thing, I used it all the time.
Iv got the mountaineer pks knife and it is by far my favorite knife i own. Dave is right, i own fancy knives in all kinds of different steel but in the woods or survival 1095 and a tried and true old school desing is what you need to do any task outdoors. If it aint broke dont fix it
I have to agree. I've seen both PSK and Tops 1095 compete and sometimes out preform higher end steels. Excellent simple designs and materials can't be beat.
Ive had the camp companion on my wishlist for some time. Ive carried everything from blind horse to cheap academy knives. Ive just never really cared for a big belt knife. I hate stuff on my belt, pockets, and belt loops. Ive grown to prefer a smaller blade over the large ones. I hope to purchase one sooner than later.
I have 2 Grizzlies, and 2 Buffalo Skinners, and they truly are workhorse knives. I almost feel bad about how I treat them, but they just do work, and don't complain. Seriously great knives
I bought my brother, one of your knives Dave. I ordered a curly maple. It wasn't. It's a good looking knife. Ok steel. It would be nice. If it had screws. Not pins. But I get it. More cost. Thank you, for your great video.
I've been very pleased with my PKS knives. I have the Scorpion, Mountain Lion (wanted the Mountaineer, but it wasn't available at the time), the Camp Companion, Buffalo Skinner, and the Little Skinner which has become my favorite of the hunting knives.
Finally someone that agrees with what I was taught by my granddad, thick enough steel to work an easy to sharpen in the field, 1095 never let's you down. Keep it clean an oiled, it'll develope a patina with proper use an care.
I really like quite a few of the knives in your lineup! However I prefer screwed handles opposed to pinned ones. Simply for the possibility that the knife gets trenched and I like to dry and oil the blade entirely, including the tang. If you'd ever offer that, you got a new customer.
got the Mointaineer and the Grizzly YEARS ago, way before dirty by design, new boxes, fancy wrapping, diffferent wood handles, etc.etc At the time only available in walnut handles. I would like to see some full flat, convex or high sabre grinds in the future

But does anyone else here think they deserve a mention if for no other reason than to respect the history of Dave's designs? No disrespect to the Scorpion. I'd buy one of every knife Dave makes if it wouldn't put me in the dog house with my better half. But when I come across an original PLSK1 Pathfinder with the old logo on one side and the Blind Horse logo on the other side, I'm buying it. There is something that is simultaneously rough AND elegant about that design. But what do I know.
Well don’t have a pathfinder knife. So going over to the store and check them out. So far anything I have bought from the pathfinder store has serviced me very well.
About 6 yrs ago I bought a pks grizzly with red and black macarta handles. It came in the white boxes. The day it arrived I was opening it up and I dropped it. The edge of the knife hit the edge of a metal ashtray. My heart almost stopped when I realized I damaged it. I thought it chipped. I put on my reader glasses and realized no chip the edge just rolled. 5 minutes on a bench stone and it came right out can't even tell I did that. That should speak of the high quality products with outstanding heat treating. The only bad thing I can say bad about pks knives is they discontinued my second favorite knife. The grizzly my favorite is the mora garberg a little more comfortable edc woods carry. My grizzly I scout carry on my backpack or sometimes on my chest pack. I would highly recommend any pks knife or the mora garberg. I prefer full tang so the garberg is the only mora I own or recommend but I have heard good things about the other moras for a budget starter knife.
I want one of each. I have the Scorpian HD and it's a great, bulletproof knife. I like the idea of the knife being sold separate from the sheath. I have the standard leather sheath from PKS with my Scorpion and its well made. I added a dangle to mine.
Great true outdoorsman knives. Awesome selection/ patterns. Always been a 1095 Carbon knife guy. I Probably have 40 vintage classic hunting knives -all great 1095. You’re spot on about the hype with all the BS variations of steels they constantly come out with and toss out there to star gazed public
I have one of the Jeff White Forest Tools from the first run you guys did some years ago, but I need a new, all Pathfinder, Dirty by Design one something fierce. Any idea when they'll be available again?
I like the Camp Master Kephart. I have the older Kephart XL and I was not pleased with the "barrel handle". I prefer a flatter handle to index the blade.
Sounds like me with the discontinued Basic Bushcraft knife. I hated the handle as it gave me blisters. I put micarta scales on it and shaped them a lot flatter. It's now good to go
@SelfRelianceOutfit not trolling. Generally when a blade is broken its the user's fault, just asking for clarification, thank you. The knowledge your channel and affiliates share is priceless. Our parents should have taught us most of this but the times we live in... you all are a necessity. Thank you again
I use my Scorpian whenever im not using my Garberg or any of my Esee's, she's always been a good one for me.. I expect my daughter will continue to use it long after i am gone..
I dabbled with the expensive fancy powder steels and went back to the tried and true 1095hc steel. It's just so much easier to deal with and way more forgiving . If you are new to blades I recommend 1095hc, also 420hc USA made . Yes ya don't get a spark with a stone but if crap hits the fan I'm grabbing either my Tops Brakimo or Gerber Prodigy/Strongarm. I have yet to purchase one of the PKS knives yet I will eventually get one of their kepharts or Scorpions .
These are quality knives. They're not good because they are affordable, they're good because they're friggin' good! They're simple, and very VERY close to the knife designs used hundreds of years ago. I get an odd sense of being connected to those times, using mine. Plus, they taught me that high quality didn't necessarily mean high price. If your considering one, roll the dice. I swear you will not be disappointed.
I have all models in the PKS line up. I really like them all, however depending on the task at hand might choose one over another. Currently my favorite everday belt blade for outdoor bushcrafting goes to my Camp and Trail of which I own two. One having an ash handle the other in curly maple. For my living history impression the curly maple gets the nod. Next week I was invited to do some living history event for the Alabama historical museum and yes a couple of my PKS blades will accompany me and used in demonstrating primitive fire making. I have a sizable amount of camp craft gear from Self Reliance Outfitters and the products never fail to be both functional and dependable over my 39 years doing living history / camp craft.
I was wondering what will happen with the camp and trail knife. Glad its still an option. Really like it. Tempted to buy another in micarta this time when available again
Just buy the terava scrama my friend, ive owned one for 5 years and beat the hell out of it. The 80-crv2 kicks 1095 all day. You wont find a better value knife with an amaizing heat treat like the scrama. American made is very expensive thats a given. The nordics know their seax designs, they invented it!. 😂
I have a feeling they didn't, Shawn Kelly comes across as very selfish. Also the way he treats his subscribers on his you tube channel is disgusting! Edit : I unsubscribed from Corps channel because he always complains and blames his viewers they don't watch his videos enough ughhh. Would much rather watch Dave do real videos without the complaining, keep up the good work Dave.
Since neither refers to the other by name I think they may have parted on something a less than good terms. Kelly has always wanted to be on his own and Dave and the Pathfinder School was maybe a launching pad.
Dave C. Is definitely the humble professional, Mr. Kelly has been a whiny bitch for a while…like a few years now…Corporal’s Corner was my introduction to RUclips and I still subscribe to his channel but yeah, I think he stepped on his dick leaving Dave.
@@neilmcphee1554I dont think Shawn is selfish more or less just really busy.. i ask Dave questions that he doesnt answer and then i remind myself he has 6 kids, grandkids, a wife, pets/animals business/s to run property to maintain, videos to make, traveling etc etc... im surprised he has time to take a dump...from what i hear these guys are super cool in person.. God bless :)
I own 3 PKS knives, they as good or better than any other knife that I own (I own quite a few) they are my favorites. I do beat on them a little, and they hold their edge and are easy to resharpen usually with just a strop. If Horace Kephart were around today, he would carry a PKS knife (as long as he could get it from Abercrombie & Fitch).

I want one of each. I have the Scorpian HD and it's a great, bulletproof knife. I like the idea of the knife being sold separate from the sheath. I have the standard leather sheath from PKS with my Scorpion and its well made. I added a dangle to mine.
Finally purchasing my Scorpion now! HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!! 🎉
I love that you did blades with the Scandinavian grind. When I'm ready for a new one I'll probably get a Mountaineer.
Soon. Keep an eye on the website.
It's now good to go
Warranty or guarantee? You used both terms... fair question
You're right! The devil is in the details lol.
If you mess it up we’ll give you a new one take that as you will
@SelfRelianceOutfit not trolling. Generally when a blade is broken its the user's fault, just asking for clarification, thank you. The knowledge your channel and affiliates share is priceless. Our parents should have taught us most of this but the times we live in... you all are a necessity. Thank you again
I have the original Kephart with Walnut Scales and love it. No fancy boxes back then LOL.
I use my Scorpian whenever im not using my Garberg or any of my Esee's, she's always been a good one for me.. I expect my daughter will continue to use it long after i am gone..
Another killer video as always Dave and I always like the look of the 1818 knives and I want the bushcraft knives to do everything I need it to do
Dave make some Canadian belt knives I think they will make your knife business on the top of the world
Ive got five. My Camp and Trail has been with me for all my training. It will be with me at the Advanced class.
WOW! Thank you so much!
Have you given any thought to offering a Mora style “plastic” sheath for your knives-something to get the job done until?
No, haven't considered that, thanks.
Have both the Scorpion and Mountaineer…can’t beat ‘em.
Dave, great explanation. My two favorites are the camp and trail paired with the camp companion! With that said, I prefer a neck knife!
I own a scorpion HD and love it. I would love to pair it with the kephart
I was wondering what will happen with the camp and trail knife. Glad its still an option. Really like it. Tempted to buy another in micarta this time when available again
I've got the Grizzly, Scorpion XL and the Camp Companion. Love them all. (never did get a sticker though)
I bought 2 PKS knives at smokey mountain knife works and they both came with sheaths???? Love both of then!!! Camp and Trail, and Mountaineer.
I've got a Wildcat and a Scorpion XL. Best knives I've ever owned for being in the woods.
Would you consider a seax blade style?
Just buy the terava scrama my friend, ive owned one for 5 years and beat the hell out of it. The 80-crv2 kicks 1095 all day. You wont find a better value knife with an amaizing heat treat like the scrama. American made is very expensive thats a given. The nordics know their seax designs, they invented it!. 😂
I have 2 of your knives. And really hope you and Mr Kelly parter on good terms. ❤
Doesn’t sound like they did. You can see the tidbits in the videos. Hate it when the parents argue.
Flat grind - would sell very well
I have one the old kits that they sold years ago when they partnered with battle box
I need the Scorpion HD in my life
The Buffalo skinner looks like the Jeff White Trekker with a scandi grind.
Dave, for the price point the PFK are hard to beat….
Tried and trued…
Love my camp and trail
I own 3 PKS knives, they as good or better than any other knife that I own (I own quite a few) they are my favorites. I do beat on them a little, and they hold their edge and are easy to resharpen usually with just a strop. If Horace Kephart were around today, he would carry a PKS knife (as long as he could get it from Abercrombie & Fitch).
Great simple and sleek design. Hopefully the knives will soon be available in Germany too.👍
Looks like they discontinued the mountaineer, sucks cause I wanted to buy one, wonder why they randomly stopped making such a good knife.
