    I like that strong tip the Highlander has, and the French Trade look never goes out of style.

      Shaun Grant what steel is your knife? How has it been with edge toughness and corrosion resistance?

    The BHK Highlander is a very good all-purpose, full-tang belt knife. It is really a survival/bushcraft multi-tool of sorts. Full-tang means the knife's spine and handle are one piece of metal. This type of robust tool has a tapered, broomstick-shaped handle that can pretty much be gripped the same way from any angle. Its primary cutting edge is five inches long and 1/8 to 1/4-inch thick for added durability, since this blade is designed be used as an improvised froe for splitting, ie processing wood. This product has a scalpel-sharp 01 tool-steel blade with a symmetricall-shaped Scandinavian grind. This tool is about 10 1/8 inches long overall, its blade uncoated.This knife's Scandanavian grind is well suited to the demands of this knife's two primary tasks: processing wood for fire and tools and processing game for food, hides or pelts.
    The sharp 90-degree spine opposite the blade gives the bushcrafter or survivor two additional cutting edges, useful for a variety of camp tasks, such as:
    cutting cloth or cordage;
    cutting notches in wood;
    as a metal striker for employing flint and steel technology;
    as an ignition device to start a fire;
    as a prying tool;
    as a sharp tool for scaling a fish;
    as a scraping tool for striking ferrocerium rods or creating fine fatwood shavings;
    and for removing bark from branches.
    If a survival knife has an exposed steel pommel on the butt end of the knife, it can also be used a pounding tool for driving a nail, or for safely breaking/knapping glass. Some knives in this category, like the Habilus Bushtool, also have a hearth built in at the facorry, a rounded depression cut into one side of the handle. This property gives the survivor a pre-made bearing block, so ty don't hae to find/carve one off the landscape.
    That's a lot of multi-functionality for just one tool; the one tool survivors and bushcrafters typically keep sheathed on their belt so they never lose it.
    I personally like stainless steel blades beause I live and recreate in a rainy, damp, occasionally snowy climate in the Paciic Northwest for seven months a year. If I were ordering this knife from Battle Horse Knives, I would try to get coyote brown, unpolished micarta scales for the handle, for a somewhat better grip in the rain.

    I ordered this knife on the Friday and it was delivered to me in the U.K. the next Friday!!! Unfortunately the U.K.government added $100 to the price. Its a solid heavy knife and to be honest I would have preferred a thinner option to 3/16" - its not the best for food prep or feathersticking but heyho its what it is.

    So the PLSK1 from PKS and BHK has morphed into the BHK Highlander? I own the PLSK1 and the Highlander looks identical. Even has the same stats,( 5 inch long, 3/16 inch, O1 tool steel blade). Even has the same jimping for the thumb. I wonder if Dave C knows about this?

    • @battlehorseknives2131
      @battlehorseknives2131 6 лет назад +8

      of course he does.... we make those knives for him. The difference in the two is his logo on his blades. We make them, ship them, and he sheaths them and sells them.

    Great knife. Honestly, what really makes me not to buy one more BHK is the past experience that I had with them... took ridiculous time for mailing the knife...

      Even with their 5-7 day knives?

    • @battlehorseknives2131
      @battlehorseknives2131 6 лет назад +2

      Our company consists of 3 men in a shop hand crafting hundreds of knives. 60-90 days for a custom knife made with care and quality is not bad at all. But yes we have a line of knives that ship within 5-7 days, that's super fast for a non china knife.

    • @drcsep

      Battle Horse Knives improved the shipping and mailing processes... I’m not questioning the knives quality...
