The accuracy of the old guard is an absolute beast.
The only thing I’m a bit put off about them is their bearskin caps. They don’t look like any photograph or painting of them.
@@nate742 The devs recognized they made the mistake and gave them the code line corresponding to the Guard Artillery bearskin (which correctly have a visor), instead of the right Grenadier bearskin (which is in the game!). They just never corrected this mistake. It's easy to edit the variantmeshdefinition files though.
More like the AI sucks, and especially its use of artillery.
How you think you should use artillery in empire total war: "ah yes from this spot they can overlook the whole battlefield and freely bombard the enemy as they advance."
How you should actually use them: "if we roll them up close to the enemy and then use the canister shot ammo type they turn into giant shotguns."
At far distance, I often use artillery to kill enemy cavalry and snipe general.

i dont remember the exact quote but in empire or napo tips claiming that artillery are not snipers able to destroy calv units with 1 salvo. lulz
@@Verynormaltagname Are you sure? In Empire and Napoleon, artilleries are very effective against cavalry and they have unlimited ammunitions. I killed enemy general many times by artillery at the opening of battle.
@@TotalWar1vs1 im just alluding the game tps, wishing they were truth, darthmod curves the shots making all art howitzers, thats something but still pretty effective against calv.

You should try the great war mod for NTW (the campaign is a bit tricky btw because the game crashes if you let Germany grow)
With canisters and proper artillery positioning, even if you charged melee I'm not sure they would've made it.

You reminded me of the artillery battles I did to test how effective it was.
If you want to see carnage, put normal cannons against cavalry. They mow them like rockets do in Shogun 2, because different of FOTS they fire in a straight line.
Also reminded me of a campaign battle where my feudal knights were wrecked by archers. They were to slow to catch up and were picked one by one.

In open battles they rule the battlefield, but they're useless for defending a siege.
For the latter purpose the best one is rocket artillery.
Why couldn't you just have the Guard charge immediately? Or just do fire and advance

@Gondola: Correct! I want to demonstrate how strong and stable Old Guards are. Their morale bar was always green throughout the battle although they suffered from very high casualties.

This video show how crap Howiter is in Napoleon Total War and I never use them. Even a cheapest normal cannon can wipe out a foot unit by grapes bullet.
Howitzers work just fine. There's alternate ammunition for Howitzers, too. However, the AI didn't use it and aimed at imaginary other units somewhere else on the battlefield.
Howitzer, on the other hand, is more precise than a regular cannon - so even though it strikes enemy the same, it is more accurate and has a larger chance of actually hitting a target.
Cannons altogether are pretty bad for moving targets in this game - they're the best for breaking stalemate.
The artillery in Napoleon always felt rather ineffective. It does good morale damage but doesn't kill very many men. The artillery in Empire is absolutely devastating, when you actually hit something with it. You can kill 1/3rd of a regiment with one explosive shell.

Cannon in Napoleon are effective, not as much as in FOTS or other TW games, but still effective. Infinite ammo and cannister shot makes them good. Howitzers on the other hand aren't all that good in my opinion.

This matchup kind of reminded me of battle of Somosierra where polish light cavalry under Napoleon charged and took 4 fortified artillery positions

@@TotalWar1vs1 Tôi nhầm, trong lịch sử muốn gia nhập đội Cận Vệ Già thì: - Phải dưới 35 tuổi. - Từng trải qua ba chiến dịch. - Đã phục vụ 10 năm trong quân ngũ. - Từng bị hai vết thương nặng chí mạng do đạn, pháo, kiếm, giáo, lưỡi lê,... gây ra mà vẫn sống sót. - Phải cao trên 6 feet, tức là cao trên 1m83cm mới đạt yêu cầu. - Phải chứng tỏ lòng trung thành đối với nước Pháp. - Phải là dân tộc Pháp chính thống. - Phải có học, biết đọc và viết chữ, tính toán. - Phải đạt được các yêu cầu về thể chất và kỹ năng bắn súng, nạp đạn, cận chiến. - Phải biết dùng thành thạo tất cả các loại vũ khí đa dạng khác nhau.
