- Napoleon: Total War 5vs1: 5 Militia vs Old Guard
Nation: France vs France
AI Strength: normal
*5 units of Foot attacked one by one.
Militia are the standard militia type unit available to most factions: cheap, quickly trained infantry that are poor at fighting but are useful garrisoning units owing to their low cost and upkeep and also their garrisoning bonus. Among the major, playable factions in the campaigns, the only faction that trains this unit is France; those factions that don't have militia all have a similar equivalent, however. Portugal has superior militia when compared to most other factions in terms of ranged combat, but are more expensive. In The Peninsular Campaign, Great Britain have access to units named Portuguese Militia, which are statistically and visually identical to militia fielded by Portugal.
The Old Guard are the best elite infantry in the game, with unmatched stats across the board. Their ability to scare enemies in their vicinity is unique to them. This, combined with their deadly skills at both ranged and melee combat, means that they can usually rout most enemies in short order. Like all infantry, however, they are vulnerable to artillery (their status as the best infantry in the game makes them an attractive artillery target) and being attacked from the flanks or rear. Their very high cost is also an issue, particularly in multiplayer, where limited funds means that a heavy reliance on Old Guard means having to make do with an inferior army in other regards. The Old Guard are also the only default guard unit that is limited to three regiments (other factions may recruit four), though France can supplement this with other guard units such as Young Guard and Guard Seamen. The Old Guard's fear ability mean that they are at their most useful toward the end of battles, where morale penalties from casualties sustained or generals killed mean that many units have shaky morale. Though Old Guard can only be trained at staff colleges, the highest level military building, France starts the Grand Campaign with one regiment of them. This regiment can prove pivotal in the early game, when no other faction can field line infantry nearly as skilled. As staff colleges may only be built in capital regions of any faction, it is normally considerably more difficult to recruit and replace Old Guards that are lost far from France.

I always like imagining what the story context between these match ups would be. Here I imagine it’d be a Revolutionary revolt against Napoleon being countered by the Old Guard, or the Old Guard revolting against the Bourbons and being attacked by the National Guard.
Why are they in the desert? Napoleon is France and France is Napoleon. He took all the water with him XD.
👍
The water, grass, trees, buildings, population... yep, all can be found in Elba.
Egypt campaign?

A flanking attack would have been interesting as well.
You mean flanking in melee combat, don't you?
@@TotalWar1vs1 i think he meant that the militia should envelop the VG and flank the VG and so giving more damage
@@HochundDeutschyapster It will destroy Old Guard easily. They cannot stand against bullets fired from 5 sides at the same time.
@@TotalWar1vs1 with militia stacked like that, a charge from old guard would break them all lol. Remember militia has low morale. Old guard can lose 80% of men and still fight on. Militia will run immediately after meeting Old guard in melee.
Especially since old guard is so feared and makes units roút
Highly doubt you'd be able to defeat Old Guard even encircled with Militia.
A Good commander would rout them all
You're also lining them up behind each ither so they're shooting each other.
You are amazing sir.
So nice of you 👍
La garde meurt mais ne se rend pas !
The guard may be dying but it ain't surrendering.
Yeah my translation could use a bit of work...

In reality it means something like "The guard never surrenders!"
@@WhoAmIHmmm Yup!
@@TotalWar1vs1 hi again
@@WhoAmIHmmm Hello 😁
Why not use Militia in one line?
Because they surely win if firing all at once. It's not even a battle 😈
friendly fire also exists so they cant shot behind another militias
