The HMS Elephant is a superior version of the 74-gun Third Rate, with better accuracy and hull strength, although this is offset by its greater cost to build. As with all 74-gun ships-of-the-line, the HMS Elephant is a superb combination of speed, durability, and firepower, and is able to handle itself well against most types of ships. The HMS Elephant is the only ship that can inspire nearby units (other than ships with admirals). While Great Britain may only build one HMS Elephant, multiple copies of this ship may exist if an HMS Elephant is captured by another faction; this allows Great Britain to build a new one.
For many factions, 74-gun ships of the line are the best non-steam powered ships in their ship rosters. Possessing a versatile balance of speed, durability, and firepower, 74-gun ships of the line are capable of tackling nearly any opponent. They have superior or equal stats in every category compared to 50-gun ships-of-the-line and 64-gun ships-of-the-line, with their only weakness being their higher cost. They are only outclassed by heavier steam ships and the largest ships of the line, but are cheaper to build and require lower-tier dock buildings. For most factions, the 74-gun ship-of-the-line is the heaviest ship type available before unlocking steam technology. 80-gun Ship-of-the-Lines are equal or superior to 74-gun ships of the line in every category, but are somewhat more expensive to build and maintain. For those factions that cannot build 80-gun ships-of-the-line, until Ironclads and 80-gun Steam Ships are available, 74-gun ships-of-the-line are the heaviest ships. Some factions' ship statistics are different from others.

@@NONHSIWOYANI Imo the Santisima Trinidad is overrated, it’s slow and doddles and in pvp even a first rate going to cross the T faster than it. You will rarely be able to bring a full broadside to bare before being outflanked. Not to mention British gunners are going to out-shoot it(again best navy in game and irl). The Santa Ana is a better ship even if it’s just a named first rate. In real life it got knocked out early at Trafalgar and sunk in a storm whist the British were towing it as a war prize.

This is not the way to fight naval battles with sailing boats. If you play cleverly, you can defeat larger fleets and ships using the wind and npt even get hit a lot. This is just a my guns are bigger than your guns blast off.
