- Napoleon: Total War 1vs1: Fusiliers of Line vs Foot
Nation: France vs Great Britain
AI Strength: normal
Fusiliers of Line are the standard line infantry of France. They are unremarkable, being roughly equal to Prussian Musketeers, slightly superior to Austria's German Fusiliers, superior at a distance but inferior in melee to Russian Musketeers, and generally inferior to British Foot. While they might not be as strong as most other line infantry options for France, Fusiliers of Line are relatively cheap and are the only French line infantry that may be trained in unlimited numbers. As with other line infantry, their large numbers and resistance to morale shocks make them ideal for absorbing damage and holding the line of battle. They can form squares, giving them a powerful defensive bonus when fighting cavalry at the cost of mobility and increased vulnerability to artillery fire.
Foot are Great Britain's standard line infantry: ubiquitously available from even basic cantonments and, by British standards, cheap. They are the best standard line infantry among all factions, outclassing their counterparts in nearly every category (Russian Musketeers have better charging and melee skills but are much worse in most other categories) and even beating out most unique line infantry. Foot are so good that they are only slightly inferior to French Young Guard, who themselves are elite infantry. As with all line infantry, Foot are numerous, possess good morale, and are resistant to morale shocks, making them suitable for holding the line of battle. They can form squares to fend off enemy cavalry, but are vulnerable to longer-ranged skirmishers and light infantry, artillery fire, and being attacked from the flanks or rear. One small disadvantage of Foot is that they benefit from experience gains from higher tier military buildings than other line infantry. French Fusiliers of Line and Prussian Musketeers are recruited with two chevrons of experience with Drill Schools, while Foot have to wait till tier-4 Military Academies are built. The difference is small, however, and the British regain their advantage in the late game.

Foot. Just Foot.
😈
Imagine losing to a *Foot* when you have the whole body 💀
😈👍
Foot have significantly better stats. Fusiliers did surprisingly well.
Yeah👍
Main problem with Gunpowder era TW games that there are bunch of invisible stats: Movement speed, reload speed, melee attack speed etc.
@@hannibalburgers477Reload speed is indicated by the "reloading skill" stat you can see at the beginning of the video.
For the movement speed you can run a few tests. All line will run at the same speed, and I'm not even sure that light infantry is faster. Light cav is indeed faster than heavy cav, but just a little.
Attack speed isn't relevant. There is no HP or weapon damage in this game : when a models find an opponent it's either a win, a lose, or a draw. The speed of this encounter depend of what animation is played (because there is always one played).
A few comments on here whining about British "bias". It's a 1 v 1 - Historically the average British infantryman was better trained - GB was richer and spent more time and cash training its smaller army especially firearms. This is reflected in the game. So in a shootout the British should win, just.
It's also what happened in reality, just do some research on Peninsular War. French column attacks breaking in face of disciplined and accurate British musket fire.
It wasn't all one way of course, but this result would be one would expect in this "test". In any case the French would more likely fire a few volleys and go in with the bayonet, so just units shooting at each other like this until destruction is not how it would play out in a battle, it purely shows firepower and base morale, nothing else.
In the campaign it's different because generally the French have more powerful artillery and cavalry units. Also most of their generals lift French infantry morale more, especially Bonaparte, so they can absorb higher loses and still win. The whole point about total war games is to use the different strengths of your forces in combined arms.
👍
And France has better artillery and cav if I remember right.
People may think its unbalanced but I think its pretty accurate since British line infantry were the best of the time...
👍

Una pregunta, en el Empire Total War, la infanteria de linea dispara de manera ordenada, una fila tras otra, en este ¿se puede lograr eso de alguna manera?
Unfortunately, there is no Fire by Rank in Napoleon total war.
We all knew how it will end but I'm still crying. Damn you British!
😈
Kinda sad that they just gave French basic infantries with basic generic stats. Would be cool if they have +1 morale or something
👍
What Did You Understand?
The French Have Some Of The Strongest Infantry In The Game This Was Just A 1V1.
@@empireofitalypsstimfromano5025 France has the best guard infantry (Old Guard) and nothing more. Great Britain has better standard line infantry and better light infantry, riflemen.
How do you make a unit have 160 soldiers instead of 120?
You can adjust the Unit Size in graphic settings. Set it to "Ultra" then you get 160 men per unit
@@TotalWar1vs1 alright thank you
@@ThatOneMike1 Welcome!
It was actually the other way around. In real life. The British can only be proud of virtual history.
Gosh have you not watched sharpe
😈
@@crumpetcommandos779 🤣I watched and cried. Sometimes I imagine a world in which history is not written by the Anglo-Saxons. Imagine if the trends were set by the Germans or the French or the Spaniards, no one would know about Sharpe, you would watch a series about how Spanish Tercios have been trolling around the world for 150 years, for example.
@@voso4978 tbf the French are probably the best faction in this game overall
@@crumpetcommandos779 Better in the sense of: "easier to win" hmm, yes, maybe.
The Foot is more expensive so yeah.
😈
Foot. :v
😈
In life, everything was exactly the opposite.
😈
This is in fact wrong.
Hehehe
😈
The best infantry
"Foot" is the best Line Infantry in the game
white flag france lol

french stereotype = comedy
Behold the funny
French Battery of the Convention unit says what.
Orgil, French people is not inbred like you. France is the greatest military nation ever, just learn history. Inbred :)
