    I would take the 3.4 5vz-fe supercharged any day. Such a good engine. Super reliable and smooth. Bolt on supercharger option. My 98 4runner had 249000 miles on it when I sold it, and the engine was all original and perfect.
    But that's impressive with the TDI mpgs

    Another question that arises is "Which VW TDI: 1.9 or 2.0?" Most go with one of the 1.9 engines but more people are working with the 2.0s and getting excellent results.

    TDI for sure! Austin, the way you build, guaranteed the tdi swap will be reliable for a long time. The tdi build I was aiming at was to use the VW tdi with a crossflow head that runs better for efficiency and cooling, especially when towing. If I could get a 1KD-FTE I would do that swap for a Tacoma, pickup or 4runner but they are a lot more expensive than a tdi swap! the 1KD-FTE in a landcruiser prado is pushing around a lot heavier truck than your red truck on 35's and it probably drive like your red truck with the same performance and mpg and tow's without any issues with a smaller intercooler that is top mounted which is not ideal when 4wding

    My VW swap cost like $1500 CAD, I used all Toyota parts. No need to buy a different power steering reservoir no need for a different overflow tank. The only "part" that isn't Toyota in my truck is the engine itself sooo.

    I own both a Volkswagen with a TDI engine and a third generation 4runner with the 3.4 gas engine. I am seriously considering a TDI swap for my Toyota.The 3.4 is one of the most reliable and durable engines you can buy.The TDI has some shortcomings, such as cams that can wear prematurely, but, with some work they can last half-a-million miles. Some of the TDI engines can put out 300+ lb/ft with just a tune and still deliver 30 mpg. I can’t think of a better combination.

    Stumbled on to this video, wasn't' sure at first, turned out to be informative, thanks, : ))) Have an older 94 4-runner, 5 sp, with 335K and still going, been through a lot of "battles" and don't want to give it up. Wondering what to do in case the 3.0 (ugh) finally gives up and want some better MPG for exploring. Ran diesels for quite some time, (Peugeots 504, 505) and now the Dodge Cummings (does better than the 4-runner.) Currently running a Prius Gen II and still getting over 50 MPG with 190K. Maybe a blend of diesel/electric (used to work for the RR) that would be a hoot for sure. Sorry to ramble a little, you do that when you get older. Take care.

    great job, if enough space under the hood, you should prefer BMW M57 diesel (single 204 hp or. biturbo 285 hp) for swap instead of 1.9 TDI and results be much more impressive comparing to 3.4L petrol engine.

    I want to do a 1UZ or 2UZ.. hell, maybe a 3UZ swap in my 94 ex-cab. For roughly the same mpg as the 3.4 it just makes more sense. And the 5VZ has well known head cracking issues, likely from the exhaust crossover. When I got my flywheel resurfaced the guy told me about it, said its very common and showed me 3 cracked heads..all in the same location between the two back cylinders (passenger side). Ive also read about the issue in many forums. So for me its v8 or diesel for sure. Your TDI is sick AF. Too bad I hate VW’s lol.

  • @SOLDADITO76

    Gear ratio will effect all builds, either gas 4cyl, diesel 4cyl, 3.0, 3.4, and V8. My 20R converted to EFI, a manual 5speed, and 3" lift on 33" tires, was useless on the trail and on the highway with 4:10 gears. re-geared the diff's with a set of 5.29's and that made a world of difference. A lot of time gear ratio in diff's and transmissions are over looked.

    I gotta say that the TDI holds much greater interest to me. I think if I wanted a 3.4, I’d just buy a Taco. Full disclosure, I brought a BHW home last week. Now please finish your swap so I can learn from any mistakes you might make along the way…

  • @matts_.4494
    @matts_.4494 3 года назад

    One more thing. If you operate your vehicle in places like Colorado or Northern Arizona and it has the 3.4 naturally aspirated V6 it is going to be down quite a bit of power because of altitude.. The 190 hp V6 will lose about 30 hp at 5000 feet and 65 hp when crossing high a mountain pass. The turbo diesel, on the other hand, will retain all of its power.

  • @turboimport95
    @turboimport95 3 года назад +1

    so is TDI more cost effective vs a 2jz swap? 2jz just needs right bellhousing and bolts right up, It has to be way cheaper then the TDI. Plus it would make a lot of tq because of displacement. Put a turbo cheaply on the 3.4 and then do another comparison.. most people cant afford 1k adapter. Not hating on you or anything man I love your truck its sweet. Heck put the TDI against a turbo Toyota 2.4 for comparison.
