First off that’s a beautiful piece of Americana you got there. TDI is a great compact diesel that exceeds the Hurricanes 190ft lbs. still haven’t came to terms on swapping the anchor as I’ve successfully managed 100mph from this high strung sewing machine! Everything was sourced locally from Autolite to Trico Toledo Ohio, pride. Pops had his 53 Willys since I was damn near born in 1978 Manhattan where he owned a tire shop and wrecker and heavily modified with a cropped Chief frame with 3:31 D44’s 390, 304 and a 22R that made history at the mud holes. Last year acquired a 59 with the Super Hurricane 226 that I am currently working on getting rid of the vapor lock and heat soak that plagued antiques. You guys keep up the great work on keeping our founding fathers alive. 🇺🇸
clearance wise if you can get ahold of a scrap industrial version of an ALH like a BXT, BEQ or BEU engine (used in some euro brand forklifts sold in the states) they have different a acessory/injectionpump bracket with alternator on top, ac in the middle and the powersteering pump on the bottom and it usually also comes with a timingbelt cover without enginemount passtrough (usually in forklifts enginemounts use some of the boltholes underneath the exhaust manifold)
I know that drive-by-wire is against your religion but the ECU and a VNT turbo from the 115 hp model makes a night and day difference compared to the mechanical pump with a shaved boost pin
Looking forward to your progress, hope you can find a way to keep the AC. I understand the clearance problem. This is the same engine I have in my TDI Fiero that came out of a 2000 Jetta. In my swap, used the fly by wire accelerator pedal & Jetta dash & ECM. It's getting 57 mpg. I used to live in Maryland, know MIR well. I have subscribed to your channel to see the progress. Where did you get the new injection mechanical pump
Hans auto parts
@@Rustomod Hans is notorious for selling the worst stuff (especially injection pumps) that have ruined countless engines. You've been warned!
@Rustomod how is the Hans pump working? Everyone I know is saying to not touch the Hans stuff
Greetings from Puerto Rico, I would like to do that same project, where can I get that engine?
