All Death Animations - Donkey Kong [Gameboy]

- Donkey Kong for the Game Boy, known by many as Donkey Kong '94, is a puzzler game based on the original 1981 arcade hit featuring Mario and Donkey Kong, as well as it's sequel, Donkey Kong Junior. Instead of having 4 levels and an infinite loop, this game has an overworld and a definitive ending.
The game is more well known for it's puzzling gameplay and slick controlling of Mario, movement comparable to Super Mario 64, featuring backflips and triple jumps.
In this video, although a bit different than my others, shows off (supposedly) all of the unique death animations that occur to Mario. Note that this isn't a video showing everything that can kill you in the game, but simply every different animation Mario can possibly display.

EDIT (7/9/2024): WOW, I had no idea this video did this well over the years. Admittedly, if I were to anticipate this turn-out, maybe I would have made this channel a dedicated death animation archive. That being said, there's many other channels on YT that are dedicated to just that, and doubling down on videos like this feels like too wide of a jump in channel focus, even for me as a variety channel.
Not to mention, I wouldn't want to catch any competitive heat from those channels; the fellow YTers who upload death reels like this are often old-school VGers who land somewhere in the Let's Play soul-food types. As much as I enjoy many streamers nowadays, the people who take it upon themselves to document games with little-to-no interweaving their image or branding are keystones to classic gaming culture on the internet. With how video sharing has transformed over the last decade or so, it's easy to write off some of these efforts as "content mills," but being around as long as I have has taught me better than that.
You can probably tell with my latest uploads, but I'd say the vast majority of my content is as personal as I can make it, and I think at this point it wouldn't be appropriate to make content like this further without a new channel and a different format. Because of what I mentioned earlier however, that this has been done for many, many games across multiple channels, I don't think it makes sense to do this personally for my route. So, I'm writing this and saying this because although this video is clearly a very strange tangent case on my channel, and I'm not likely to make another one like it, I want to keep it up for history's sake. It taught me a lot about how this site works, and that's a lot more than I thought would happen when I uploaded this. Thanks again for all the nostalgic and kind comments, love you all!

In my childhood, this game was considered the 'Mario's cruelest death' game for me! The scene of Mario's burning, and turning into a hot, empty rice cake came as a shock. On the one hand, I could feel touched by the cheerful ending!

My brother and I used to laugh our asses off each time Mario died in this game. Coming back to this, they're still as funny as the were years ago. XD

You forgot the falling down from really high while stunned on a trampoline and dying instead of just breaking leg. And lastly, being thrown as mini mario and turning into sludge.

Makes sense, Mario in 64 uses similar moves as this game.
Some of these used to scare me. The sad music and the halo meant that our hero was most certainly dead.

You missed one! It only happens (as far as I know) in the final boss. When you get crushed between DK's fists coming from the sides of the screen,he'll be flattened and flies up to the above platform and lies dead.

My favorite death is also by Donkey Kong. You touch that monkey, he grabs Mario's head, shakes him up and down like a yo-yo and then he sends Mario flying and he lands by the head, leaving a big bump on his head. Couldn't stop laughing. lol
in last levels when you line jump too far and you land on DK hand is not funny

This game is a lot better than its Arcade counterpart.
The first one seems the most faithful to the arcade version because they're exactly the same, just different tones.

Being crushed horizontally is uncommon in the game. I believe being pushed to a wall, or tight spot by that pushing enemy, and Giant Donkey Kong's hands during the final fight are the only instances of that death.
@@g-burtfred1106 he was talking about the death by fish attack and you have mario just falling to the bottom of the ocean unconcious thus he's like definitely about to drown to death lol the other deaths were cartoony but the last one is savage
@@teecakes Yeah, I was referring to the second last one, but said last one my mistake. The second last one is the least common death.
How come Mario can still die by fall damage? The Mario Wiki explained that Mario can survive high falls.
Mario will still survive if his feet aren't above his head when he lands from a high fall. If he starts to tumble right before he lands, he'll roll into a ball before he stands back up. If he lands while his body is vertical, he'll do a face plant before he gets back up; But if he's upside down, he'll land on his head and die.

There's a glitched one where if you land on a trampoline from too high. It plays the fall damage jingle but it looks like Mario is standing normal!
It's not a glitch, because it makes sense. The trampoline is bounces you up words.

I may. I'm actually playing that game currently so maybe a compilation will be coming soon enough for that one. That game is arguably more important than this one so we'll see. ^^
