The original DKC one genuinely upset me as a young kid. Like the game way saying “look at what you did to those poor animals”. Still very somber for a Nintendo game.
The darkest one imo is dk2 because Diddy and Dixie both get thrown into an oven and literally get cooked alive. It's made clear by the red overlay that happens towards the end of the game over screen. Nintendo really went far with the dark gameovers back then.
