The toads literally tried ending his life! They didn’t even think about giving him a second chance when he was dangling off that building they just went straight for it!
It makes Donkey Kong kidnapping them come across as far more mean spirited, especially when he smiles sadistically this time around. But yeah, Mario and the main crew can't be mean ever with the new mandates
I was thinking the exact same thing, the GBA version looks a lot more Darker than the remake, even Mario acts like a meanie, but still acts honest and nice to DK regardless. Tbf, the GBA version could be what is called a recall to their origins, that is to say, how they acted towards one another, considering that, way before bowser showed up, DK was there first at the arcades, so i believe it's kinda relatable that, in some manner, because of their longtime rivalry, compared to nowadays that both are incredible friends. Also, DK sounds so desperate in the old version when he takes damage, kinda reminds me of the scream that Tom makes when he hurts himself badly in the Tom and Jerry shorts.
Its a 2000s thing for the whole crew to laugh at the silly one. But since its not in the remake, DK taking the toads hostages makes about as much sense

Well he just saw the commercial and the mini Mario toys got sold out at the toy store instantly when he got there. Apparently people are leaving out DK on everything.

I think it's kinda interesting how the final boss seems to lack any and all impact in the Switch version. The GBA version also felt a bit weak, but the punches and fists smashing onto the ground felt especially weak on the Switch. They need to hit the ground harder, and make the screen shake a lot more to feel convincing.
The original True final boss was like the PEAK of my childhood. Hell I won't even lie the music and graphics made the scene feel WAY more climactic in the original than in the remake because the compression somehow made what you could interpret so much more important and lifelike. I still won't lie I'm glad they remade it and seeing Mario do most of his moves in actual 3D now is pretty damn cool. Don't really like the new version, it's nowhere near as aggressive and intensifying as the old version, the screen doesn't even shake when the mech slams it's hands, and the sound effects don't help, just makes the new mech come off as alot more weak than the original one, and DK doesn't even shout when the mech gets attacked, he just has a minor tantrum and punches the glass (atleast it looks like he punches the glass) I just hope if they remake Miniland they'll do the final boss some justice.
Neither did I. I also liked how the older version was more aggressive and epic and the game had more of a charm to it. In the remake they seriously nerfed quite a lot when it came to music, cutscene events, and the way the characters talk and are presented. It's just not the same without DK's more ferocious attitude and the upbeat soundtrack of the original, as well as the voicelines varying and actual speaking being used. Now it's like they've changed all that for little reason if any. As someone who's played the original front to back many times over the years, I can say I enjoyed that one better too. The remake just feels off.
Dang, I dunno why they haven't released this for Donkey Kongs 40th birthday for a celebration, but at least Nintendo has finally given him the spotlight he deserves in a Nintendo Switch game✨️
