Navigates nearly normally Metal: Basically immortal, can use badges and power ups Honorary mention: Hoppycat: Succeeds so well because very very jumpy, gets over most platforming and enemy challenges with ease, not a big enough target to be an issue, can navigate nearly normally most of the time. The downsides are that I don't think it would be able to climb on poles (necessary in a few battle ship levels), and I don't think has a double jump or spin, so may struggle with very long gaps. I suspect that Hoppycat would reach a point where it couldn't proceed eventually.

As to why Hoppycap could only Dolphin Kick in the first level, the easiest explanation would be that activating most Wonder Flower transformations disables your movement badges, but when the game forces you to equip the Dolphin Kick badge at the beginning of the level it overrides the previous rule.

Funny how Tall Mario and Metal Mario were pretty much complete opposites of each other. Tall Mario seemed untouchable for most of his run but when his Achilles heel was fully revealed it destroyed him very quickly. Metal Mario's weaknesses were used against him constantly. Beaten down time and time again. But it took a lot before he finally stayed down.
