I wasn't gonna buy the remake anyway, but the lack of fall damage actually ruins the game for me. I could forgive the lack of death animations, but removing game mechanics is unforgivable.
Worst part? Unused in the files of the demo for the game are updated versions of all of the old animations, including fire, and a brand new shock animation too. During the shock animation he would flash several poses, including the elusive V-SIGN! Oh how i miss that pose. I'm not sure if they're still kicking around in the files of the final version, but i'm genuinely so disappointed they're unused.

You had one job in this remake, Nintendo. Things I didn't like about the remake: 1. The cartoony SFX that were the charm of the game, they removed them. 2. The Death Animations were changed (except of being crushed) 3. They removed/changed many tracks of the game like: Fire Mountain, Twillight City, The Title Screen, and the battle themes.
What I don't like is that Mario's voice lines in the game are little more than just stock voice clips from previous games. What I consider the charm of the game was all of Mario's unique lines throughout the original game.

I could tell that some of Mario’s voice clips in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake (whether in gameplay or cutscenes) are the same as his voice clips from the original Mario vs. Donkey Kong for the GBA. The only difference is that the voice clips in the remake received quality upgrades due to the more modern sound processing of the Switch or something

Thanks for the side by side comparison of the original and remake. My thoughts about the remake death animations… I am absolutely disappointed with them Nintendo has taken the charm away as they have toned down the slapstick humour away and trashed the iconic violence away as they have gone into the baby kiddy friendly territory as they added a stupid casual mode when Mario is in a bubble and the timer is paused making it so easy that you can’t die when you get hit and bubble saves you! Not to mention this about collecting the stars from each stage as the high score board has been removed as you have to collect all 3 presents instead beating your high score like hurry save time defeating enemies to get little score points as if you beat the current high score you get rewarded a star but in the remake they have removed it… And the iconic Mario voice lines especially the dialogue gone… Not even “Come Back Here You Big Monkey!” That left fans devastated. Most of the music for each levels are so unrecognisable like Fire Mountain and Twilight City and some of the remastered music doesn’t fit very well as there’s too much jazz and not very catchy or energetic it doesn’t match the original correctly… Who agrees with me as if you remember playing the original 20 years later?

As morbid as the GBA version of Mario vs Donkey Kong deaths were, I think it is harder to take the deaths very seriously when Mario just falls off the screen in the Switch remake version. At least with the GBA version, dying actually made it look dying instead of looking very silly.
I always found the original death by fire sprite creepy. His blacked out eyes, slouched posture... I always loved it too. Pity its just another flailing fall off the screen now.

The bosses, I loved those screens of victory!
To be honest the switch version feels like a big downgrade to death animations compared to the GBA version plus removing some of mario's unique voice lines. Doesn't really help that in the files there are animations recreated from the original (along with some fun easter eggs)
They removed all the custom death interactions and Mario still interacting with the level when dying, like getting burned and still landing on the plateform after the knocked back animation is played instead of falling in nothingness. The only one I would argue is better in the remake is "Squished up". I don't get why Mario doesn't get flatten like with squished down and sideways in the original. But the original is still better in so many other ways.
The death sounds are somewhat based on the Game Boy Donkey Kong game's death sounds Fun fact: they changed the death sound playing on some deaths, such as the electrocution death!
I feel like that was an oversight cause its the same song that would be used for fire death. And when mario dies when being squished from the side, he doesn't have a voice clip that plays.

Thank you for calling out the bland death animations. GBA had more unique ones than the remake that has done away with and made a generic animation in place of most possible deaths Mario can have (SMB style), lava death lost its engulfing Mario in flame and left in charred while electricity death doesn't have zaaaaappp sfx and showing Mario's skeleton. They're way too safe and boring now.
I would really really like for you to explain to me how the new ones are bland and generic while the old ones were.....Mario falls forward, Mario falls backwards, Mario falls on his head. How is any of that less bland or generic then him doing a pose then falling off screen like in other 2D games. The only ones that were significantly changed were his burn and shock deaths which also aren't any less generic now. The only difference is his lump body doesn't stay onscreen anymore.

To be honest the switch version feels like a big downgrade to death animations compared to the GBA version plus removing some of mario's unique voice lines. Doesn't really help that in the files there are animations recreated from the original (along with some fun easter eggs)
I agree with you dude the remake was very disappointing the original was very good
The remake was not disappointing at all, it is better than the original in a lot of ways.
They removed all the custom death interactions and Mario still interacting with the level when dying, like getting burned and still landing on the plateform after the knocked back animation is played instead of falling in nothingness.
The only one I would argue is better in the remake is "Squished up". I don't get why Mario doesn't get flatten like with squished down and sideways in the original. But the original is still better in so many other ways.
The death sounds are somewhat based on the Game Boy Donkey Kong game's death sounds
Fun fact: they changed the death sound playing on some deaths, such as the electrocution death!
I feel like that was an oversight cause its the same song that would be used for fire death. And when mario dies when being squished from the side, he doesn't have a voice clip that plays.

Thank you for calling out the bland death animations. GBA had more unique ones than the remake that has done away with and made a generic animation in place of most possible deaths Mario can have (SMB style), lava death lost its engulfing Mario in flame and left in charred while electricity death doesn't have zaaaaappp sfx and showing Mario's skeleton. They're way too safe and boring now.

I would really really like for you to explain to me how the new ones are bland and generic while the old ones were.....Mario falls forward, Mario falls backwards, Mario falls on his head. How is any of that less bland or generic then him doing a pose then falling off screen like in other 2D games. The only ones that were significantly changed were his burn and shock deaths which also aren't any less generic now. The only difference is his lump body doesn't stay onscreen anymore.
I think the new game over is less creepy than the original.
I still enjoyed playing this game despite its death changes cuz you know, I would like to not die in my opinion!
