Howth Branch 22K Class ICR Railcar Night Testing - 24th June 2023

  • On Saturday the 24th of June 2023, Irish Rail conducted night time testing of it's Intercity Railcar (ICR) 22000 class DMU along the three mile long Howth Branch.
    The train ran between Howth Junction & Howth from 01:15 - 05:00, testing new safety equipment in the train.
    Locations featured:
    Lauder's Lane / Burrow Road Crossing
    Sutton Station
    Baldoyle Road Crossing
    Burrow Road
    Claremont Road Crossing
    Sutton Station Crossing

    It is very unusual to see a diesel on the Howth branch at night.

      Testing new type of AWS. Cant think of the direct name but has something to do with European railways as well. (don't know the full details)

    I guess that is 22001

      No it was 22301 and 22201
