Hey Austin, I am a hobby-builder over in Europe, and I use your measurements a lot. I recently build a DC special, and your videos were incredibly helpful. If you want to document even more specs, then upper and lower bout widths as well as body thickness would be an option, as these also varies a bit, like the necks. From a nerd and a builder point of view, your documentations are priceless. Your documentations are my favourite Saturday morning coffee watching ritual. Thanks for sharing.
Another guitar that loves playing in the dirt! Trogly, you've really upped your playing and guitar recording over the last several months. Congrats! Perhaps you could display your "signal chain" in the video or in the video description so we have a better idea as to the different factors contributing to where the tone is coming from. Thanks
The funny part about Billie Joes signatures is when he uses them on stage, his tech pretty much always puts a Duncan Antiquity p-90 in it instead of the signature pickups.
I actually played this model at GC in 2012. It played so well, and felt very comfortable. I actually was ready to purchase with their memorial 15% off sale. Then I put it back like a damn fool. Lol 😂. Thanks Trogly👍🏽
2012 me saw BJ playing this signature guitar on stage and instantly fell in love with the double-cut shape... and it broke my heart when he smashed one on iheartradio live cuz their set was cut short for Justin Bieber. lol. 2012 me thinking if I could have that guitar instead of it being smashed. Fast forward, 2023 me seeing Kita using a double-cut junior reignited my desire for a double-cut and made me actually get one.
Is the HP90 pickup the same as a P100 stacked coils hum-reducing pickup? Have they changed the name to make it sound more like the single coil P90? I always liked those early black/white Billie Joe Armstrong LPJs. The slimmer neck seems like a good idea. The guitar is nice and simple and the leopard pattern case lining is so cool and inconspicuous.
Was cool to see a shoutout to the Les Paul Classic, I bought one in the early 90s from my local music store (small mom & pop shop). I only paid $1300 for it since they were trying to clear out "old models" and it's still one of my favorite guitars.
as soon as i looked at the back of this guitar in the thumbnail i said, “that’s a billie joe!”. i’ll add this one to the collection soon but focusing on a vintage sunburst from the early 2000s run. i have and ebony and a white one signed by the band that was once owned and spray painted by Billie Joe; the most recent holy grail added to my green day collection
You mentioned the 90's Les Paul Classics and how good they are - I have one and would be interested in seeing you do a video on them if you haven't already.
They're pretty much an R9 spec-wise. I know guys who say they're even better or at least the equivalent of a Custom Shop LP so if you have one from before they changed the specs to the skinnier necks, greenish inlays & ceramic pups, definitely keep it.
love this shape and the strap button here is in a better place. I just picked up a 1987 Greco hanging in a shop in Japan this exact model with a proper P90 in it and it is awesome. I'm moving the strap button to the horn, way better balance and comfort. might even do a belly cut in future.
This is my dream guitar. Looks amazing and I’ve never had a Gibson. I would change the pickup though to a Gibson or a Seymour Duncan Antiquity P90 for that more traditional Junior sound. Got one in my BJA signature epiphone and it rips
I love it, the TV yellow with a P-90. I think Johnny Thunders instead of Billie Joe. Did Gibson ever make a Thunders signature series? They should though i doubt they did.
I would love to own one of these. I have a 2018 DC Special with a Grenadillo fretboard, it feels great. I'm not a huge fan of the color, but its not as ugly as Pau Ferro.
Thanks Austin, for reviewing this axe I had a 60’s model for awhile and I loved it that axe was stolen from me 15years ago along with my 63sgjr and I would like to see if this model stands up to the original one
I bought one once but I didn’t like how the neck went into the body and it bugged me. All the historic dc juniors the fretboard always start on the outside of the body. That also puts the pick-up and tail peace in a different spot. I can’t believe that you didn’t notice that.
@@turnthitchcock8432 the bridge and pickup are both a moved a lil to the bottom of the guitar. If you hold the up face to face with a vintage DC junior you will notice. I’ve done it. It’s the same scale but the neck set in the body almost a 1/2 inch. But it’s enough to notice when you switch back and forth.
I would like to have a Gibson Jr. Played by Charlie Starr from Blackberry Smoke. I might try to find a cheap Epiphone Jr. Les Paul with a P90 or put a P rail in it with a push pull pot to split it .
I own 2010 bja junior..these vintage finish now is a bit rare to get in normal price junior as it almost only came with custom shop guitar nowadays..this dc now is in my wishlist..
Double cutaway Jr's were not on my radar but I bought a 2019 reissue with a Lindy Fralin P-90 and it grew into my go-to guitar! The serial number indicates March 2019 from Memphis but I thought these were made in Nashville so maybe it's a prototype? This may have 50's wiring because the volume does not change the tone and I've never found such a variety of sounds in any other guitar despite the single pickup. Also, it's a punk dream machine because the harder you hit the string the more alive it sounds. Maybe there's something substantial about magnetic damping of strings from two dual-coil guitars like most of my previous instruments.
The DC Jr. Was a low end model back in the day. Can't touch those anymore. I like the H90 idea and slim neck. Looks like a p90 but is a humbucker........cool.
With an abundance of guitars at hand and a vast amount of content to create, it's understandable that the claim of reviewing numerous Juniors and Specials holds true. However, amidst these intriguing models, one must not overlook the captivatingly mundane series known as the "Hall of Fame Edition" from 1991-1992. While the thought process behind this series remains elusive, it seems they tried to enhance the playability of established models. Limited runs of the Junior, Deluxe, and Les Paul were produced, each comprising approximately 200 units. For those seeking a noteworthy addition to their museum, exploring the "Hall of Fame Editions" could be a compelling choice.
If I had to design a double cut it would be something close to this one! What is this teasing whith first years les paul classic. Go ahead. Do it Austin, this model deserves thé right to change the market for ever.

It had the G-Force robotic tuners, which I really liked (I think I'm the only person on earth that likes robotic tuners but I also had a first gen robot LP and it worked absolutely great). If you have insight on what the Signature T is, would love to know. I sold it (and the 2008 Robot LP Studio) for a 2019 Standard 60s and the 2019 is amazing.
theres actually many aftermarket brands that do a humless p90 pickups and it isnt double stacked so you get a true p90 single coil sound. gibson just sucks in general and wont do it right.
I'm very pleased you made this acquisition!! Maybe this is one of my favorite videos of your channel, love this guitar! I'll kindly ask again: document the Crafter Lj-550 LPDC clone ;)
One of my "if money was no object" dream guitars is the Billie Joe DC signature that he smashed during his infamous iHeart rant. I know it was sold during the Green Day Reverb Garage Sale for like 10k. Just would be a cool piece of history from my favourite band that I'd love to own if I won the lottery or something haha

I have owned this guitar. Regret selling it years ago. Have the OG BJA LPjr in sunburst and put a Lollar in it. I have a hard time believing he ever used the H90 live. Great video. Have you already sold it ? Thanks for all you do.

So….which signature did Billie Joe smash at iHeart? I’m fairly sure it wasn’t this one, especially since the pickguard had a different logo and broke rather quickly.
It was one of these, maybe the one he played had different logo or it was a pre production model. It was a tv yellow double cut for sure. They used to smash up their gear so once you get the hang of it, it only takes one minute...

I’m not a fan of the Junior models, but I like the double cutaway! Sounded good for a single pick up!
I appreciate the dynamics test. That's really a big deal one one pickup guitars.
Considering Gibsons insane pricing, i would feel quite insulted to be offered a GIG BAG to protect a Les Paul, or any Gibson for that matter.
She comes alive with distortion. Very cool 😎
Yea she does!👍
Those natural dings and chips give it character, and you didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for relicing at the Gibson Custom Shop.
I love my DC Special…….60’s slim neck, only way to go, never had neck dive issues.
Love mine too!
Not a fan of this one but that could be related to my indifference to GD. Your presentation though, as always, is flawless.
