I always wanted the regular vos Marc Bolan Les Paul just because I’m a big fan of his and the story behind it. A 60’ burst that had a 70’s custom neck installed at the original Gibson factory. A few years ago the real deal guitar came to light again after missing for 40 some years when it was stolen out of Marc’s van shortly before his deaths. Unfortunately it now has a period neck replacing the LP custom neck.
Yes, those are "I don't really want to sell em" numbers. I always wondered how you prove an aged or relic guitar is mint? Can they be considered mint if they've been beat up.
I know of a guy that only builds relics / light relics .. so there is never a return for 'minor' issues. Short of a head stock break, he has zero returns now. ;)
Robby Krieger said in an interview that the Les Paul neck pickup replacement of the Staple pickup was done by a repair person when the staple pickup failed and it wasn't his choice. It came back to him that way- probably just because Staple pickups were super rare as replacement parts when it broke.
I wish I could remember the name of the museum that ended up shutting its doors for good due to the pandemic shut down. They were touted as having the largest collection of guitars anywhere.
Trogly. Would you ever do a "build series"? Buy a husk, and all the hardware, and do a 1-3 part episode of you going threw the different bridges, pickups, and build it step by step?
I wish I could remember the name of the museum that ended up shutting its doors for good due to the pandemic shut down. They were touted as having the largest collection of guitars anywhere. Robby Krieger has a RUclips channel where he runs through stories of the band and how he came about his playing certain songs. Many people don't realize he came from a jazz background before the Doors. If you looked at the Gibson sight they announced they have a Kirk Hammett Greeny signature coming out.
I'm not buying into a lefty SG Supreme from the Custom Shop. Ask the Custom Shop to build an SG Supreme. The answer is no. The same goes for Les Pauls. That one doesn't smell right.
On the Krieger 54 les paul he had the original pickup while still in the Doors. The stock pickup died later and was replaced with the seymour duncan way after the Doors were done. Should have been done with the original pickup which was used while still in the band.
I love SGs, I learned how to play on an SG, but I do not like the green color, even if it's tiger maple. It does nothing for me, it looks like a Chibson to me. I am pretty sure that it isn't, but I just get that vibe.
Its not a Chibson. The SG Supremes or beautiful guitars and they offered them in that emerald green finish as well as a sapphire blue and then a brilliant red to Yellow fade. Gorgeous guitars I bought one brand new back in the day and wish I would have never sold it
Kids are keeping Trogly up too late to miss the left handed SG controls on that Supreme Custom. I finally bought a 24 fret SG today, my first SG and I'm 68. Nice to be able to reach the high scales finally.
Research the tele. There is a d did showing Jeff feeling out over his guitars. His biggest disappointment was losing the tele in a trade with Seymour Duncan if that is the tele from his yardbird days.......
bigmikey z00 The original "standard" neck of Marc's Les Paul suffered the fate of many so was replaced with a Custom neck (as you know) which contrasted with the body as Customs used to be just black ( red Swedish custom Custom order aside etc ) , Marc wanted to emulate his hero Eddie Cochran's Gretsch hence the orange refinished top , The zebra pickup is original and these used to be rare ! ( Hello there DiMarzio ! ) 😎 🎩
Trogly. If u want to do a review of a really nice rare lawsuit Era les Paul custom let me know. I have a 76 Halifax custom. Made by Ibanez under the Halifax label. It's on par withe the other Ibanez lawsuit les Paul's. I've also only ever seen one other for sale in the 20 years I've owned it, and that was recently and in far worse condition.
There is an autographed cheap Fender acoustic guitar in the classified for sale here for 100.00 Dollars signed by Brandon Campbell (the bass player for Neon Trees). I was thinking it would be a good guitar for Trade Tuesday.
Shop around trogs, gibsons are not really high end. They are just popular among your Joe sixback blue-collar dudes , which is fine, but not really high-end. Do a Lil research. Peace.
Salutations Austin! A lot of nice and unique guitars featured in this video ! It looked like the Chris Cornell 335 in the olive green had a set of filtertron pickups in it, that would definitely be interesting to review. That collector must be pretty well off to be able to collect so many guitars with matching serial numbers and extremely patient too. Thank you for posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸
Please document another SG Supreme. They're such awesome looking and sounding guitars. They need a new review from the one you did like 8 years ago haha!
I'd like to see a Tommy Bolin 1960 LP. Such a brilliant player that heroin got a hold of. He could hold his own with Jeff Beck. Listen to all of Billy Cobhams "Spectrum" to appreciate his improvisational skills
Just starting to get into the late Tommy B. A lot of people don't know he was in a band called Zephyr and afterwards Energy ( though they never got a record deal) and then of course how Joe Walsh recommended him for the James gang and did two albums with that band before eventually joining Deep Purple not to mention other stuff that he worked on
Teaching myself to play right handed is by far the best decision I made when it comes to guitars. It is just practically impossible to find one that you’re really happy with that’s a lefty. And you’ll hardly ever be able to feel that neck before you get to to see it. It’s just such a big difference when you can walk into a guitar shop and you know you’ll get a chance to play at the very least.
That Collector has only the best musical taste, as proven by showing his guitars in front of the best amp ever made. Yes, the awesome Hiwat. The pentacle of British amp builders, and the best amps in the World!
I owned two Dave Reeves-era Hiwatt Custom 100 amps over the decades. THE best and by far the LOUDEST and CLEANEST sounding amps I ever owned, and I played bass through them. Back in the mid-70s I was playing a '72 Ric 4001 strung w/RotoSound Swing Bass strings (Chris Squire acolyte that I was) and a Hiwatt 100 driving TWO Orange 6x12 cabinets. That rig could overpower my band's PA, which was amped by a Phase Linear 400.😎
Someday there will be at Trogly Gibson Signature model. Love your show, you always keep my attention, and that's hard to do day after day. Great Job!!!
I’m buddies with the guy who owns said collection, and I can confirm that a lot of those guitars are incredible. Yes, they’re expensive and people have their views on the aged guitars, but they always feel so broken in, I love it.
i feel like the reason he has so many serial #13 is because people think it’s unlucky so they’re more likely to sell it and he grabs them when they do. just a thought
No. 13 has become a lucky number, specifically because it was unlucky to some people before. Now it’s like… I’m such a badass, 13 is MY lucky number. For example “thirteen” by Johnny Cash (written by Danzig)
05:03 - Uh huh, Uh huh, you’re totally above cash grabs, sure. Remember what you said about the “Gibson Original” stamp? Or how guitars with any flame on the back of their neck should command a premium? You literally mentioned in this video how a 19/79 serial number has more “vibes” to other random serial numbers. Austin, you make videos that shows guitars we all love. Just be honest! You don’t have to try so hard. If someone wants a guitar, they’ll buy it. You don’t need to oversell based on some made-up arbitrary features. And maybe don’t laugh and guffaw as much. It’s kinda awkward.
Finally we get to see the customs agent's guitar collection.
Don't understand why Gibson never did a signature Mick Ronson LP custom
Often wondered the same thing
they did a Ronson lighter one though didn't they......
They did.......long ago.
I'd love to get a Mick Ronson Les Paul custom, such a pity they haven't made one!

Yes, those are "I don't really want to sell em" numbers. I always wondered how you prove an aged or relic guitar is mint? Can they be considered mint if they've been beat up.
They look like absolute garbage.. only an idiot pays extra for a destroyed piece of sh!+

You should check out Songbirds Guitar & Pop Culture Museum
I think, because a lot of people are afraid of the nr 13, it's a bit easier to get them. Guitarists are a weird bunch.
Trogly. Would you ever do a "build series"? Buy a husk, and all the hardware, and do a 1-3 part episode of you going threw the different bridges, pickups, and build it step by step?
#13 is probably easier to collect since people are superstitious and believe its bad luck.
This collector must have passed away. Probably struck by lightening.
Sticks with strings!

Maybe you mean Songbirds Guitar Museum? The good news is that it has reopened according to Wikipedia.

In Italian culture 13 is actually a lucky number, my cousin is even married to a guy named Tredici (13).
I thought it was Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap.
Then they'd all be #11 instead of #13
Because his collection goes to 11!
You should interview this guy. Would make for a good episode of Trogly's.
Hunting is fun as flirting. The problem is - with both scenarios if it gets serious, somebody gets in trouble!
14:00 looks like an Edwards build, had a Pandora SG with a Bigsby that was pretty aweful

The Marc Bolan Les Paul Custom was my favorite
Maybe this guy was just putting a 13 on there with a pen
The Marshall cabinets have the “EC” grill cloth on them..
The Robbie Krieger are atleast routed so you can put in the staple pickup. Love mine to death. I hope one day my collection will look like this

Jimmy James congrats on your first SG! Which one did you get?

I love Les Paul honey burst finish ,
Some amazing g collectors pieces in there .
All about that Jeff Beck collection.
Also a penthouse with some nice half stacks...
Mark Agnesi needs to find this guy and do a collection video
I buy a lot of guitars and never bought one from Sweetwater
I need me one of those Ace Frehley & Jeff Beck models!
he had 5 greenies!!!

Is it me or are the carves on those LP’s look real deep?
I think they call it dish carved
Those SG Supremes are the coolest the new Moderns are nothing compared to the Supremes 👍
Six Stringer agreed. The SG Supremes were beautiful well made guitars
Give ya kidney for either Les Paul.

the audio in that sweetwater ad read got a bit messed up eh?
You can buy a new Jeff Beck signature Stratocaster. They go for less money new than what this guy wants.
