The Victory guitar looks like someone built a six string strat out a bass strat body. I had no problem finding an epiphone case for the first SG I bought from you. The second one I went ahead and bought a hard side Gator case which I found on sale. As far as those go I was happy enough to know you reviewed those two guitars on your show and didn't think I needed a signature since anyone could find the episodes and watch . Some don't know that Hendrix's strat was string for a right handed guitar and he just flipped it over for his use.
Hi Trogly, i am trying to send you a message to ask about a particular Gibson guitar but honestly can't find any message option any where so i have to resort to commenting instead. Hopefully you will read my message. Thanks. i found a photo of a weird guitar that looks like a combination or mash up btwn an E2 (upper) and V2 (bottom) with those boomerang or heart shaped pickups. the headstock look Explorer like but not quite the same. At first i thought it's not a Gibson. i keep getting questions about this guitar which i shared on my page. lead me to look more. Seems to be only a few photos of the same guitar n the name - Gibson Nomad. even the Gibson logo on the guitar looks strange to me. Have you seen or heard about this guitar? i tried searching through your videos and can't find anything. Please help. i am the Admin of Fans of Explorer Shaped Guitars and V Guitars Unlimited on Facebook and my Facebook id is ZakkVee. Thanks 🙏🏼 (sorry i am not allowed to share the photo here with you). being a fan, watching n sharing your vids for many years 🙏🏼
As a repair guy myself, I can guaruntee the first guitar didn’t have a ground issue. When you touched the strings the hum went, that means it IS grounded. It will only be grounded when you touch the strings
@@Trog you would want that! But it’s our bodies that ground the instrument, you know you have an issue when the guitar gets louder when you touch metallic parts, or, if there’s no change in the hum. Hope this helps trogly!
You Austen just need a wire from either the Bigby to a back of the tone or volume pod, (the one with the most wires attached to a back pod plate) or a ground post, then keep the one you like best. Either one do not impress me personally and I liked better the semi-hollow body you traded away. I'm not a fan of glossy black or any top sprayed painted to no grain sprayed away, except when color changes like grain popping or both together! I'm also a big fan of the shell to metal art and the backsides of those Epiphone's you showed us and I think I can do that on one of my four I'm making. I've done art deco pour for some of the furniture I made around my house so I can do-it with one of my first four. It with be with melting clocks, called, "Melting Time"! I got pictures too!
Well dude, I don’t know what to tell ya, my Gibson is Sonex Custom, and while I don’t know what the difference is between a custom and a deluxe, my Sonex is amazing! I love that guitar to death. For the price, it may be made out of what is in essence particle board, it plays and sounds great! You don’t have to like it, but I’ll stick up for the sonex any day of the week
There are a lot of guys that are like you and love the Sonex. I love the Sonex too when they are $300 or less! When people ask 1k for them - a The Paul will always be a better choice. The difference between the models of Sonex come down to the pickups and coil split options. The higher end Sonex with dirty fingers pickups are much more sought after
@@Trog ya I love my Sonex. It has one of the best sounding coil splitting options I’ve ever heard, even compared to the modern options. Never had the pleasure of playing a The Paul, but I’d definitely like to. I bought my Sonex for $1100, which may have been a little bit of a rip off, but whatever.
You know Austin, I think you should do a few the heritage shows, I bought one of the first ones in the 80’s and unlike some of the Gibson and fenders that thing was perfect out of the box and other than my 55 Gibson I don’t think you can beat the sound.
As for the left hand Gleary, I'm left handed and had to learn to play right-handed guitars and I'm making right-handed guitars. I could easily turn that into a righthand guitar. I have pictures I'm 65 and I'm having fun doing stuff different. Basswood is easy to work with. It's the veneer that are hard with a vacuum or a mold vise but it can be done.
Hey Austin, to convert metric 3-way switch tips to Imperial/SAE, get a cheap die & tap kit (a $40 one will be fine) and re-cut the threads of the metric tip with a 9/64" 8-32NC tap. The kit is great for re-cutting (called chasing) other threads too, esp. rusty, cross-threaded, etc., and mine has paid for itself a few times over. The 1981 Gibson Victory looks suspiciously like an early PRS, even the brass and chrome tailpiece. Jacob Moses does a killer stone replica paint job, and has the guts to do shou sugi ban on the neck! Cool to see viewer inspiration.
I bought a new Johnny A Epiphone from Sweetwater that came with a lot of wood scrap inside of it's hollow body. I would have thought that they would catch that during their inspection. Not only that, it didn't have a grounding wire at all. I'd heard some bad stories about the SW repair shop and so I installed the ground wire myself. But yeah, there wasn't even an indication that a ground wiring had even been attempted at the factory. Side point, the Gibson Classic pickups did sound louder without the wire, but who could tolerate all that noise?
You can definitely hear the difference between the 5 and 6 settings on this Live at the Regal and the buzzing is way down. That wire was most likely a ground or connecting wire, or there were 2 problems with the first one you had. I hate it when dust comes out of my f-hole. Perhaps it needs to be beaten with the wrath of America? The wood top on the green Glarry looks really nice. The custom paint job on the Trogly's Guitar is really good. That belongs in your personal collection.
While it wasn't my "first" guitar, the first guitar I bought with my own money was a 90's era blue crackle GTX and I would love to find one at a reasonable price. I think my biggest issue at that time was the fact that I had no clue how to set up a Floyd Rose style trem, and there was no youtube to go to back then.
I received the pelham blue LP custom from Gibson bit it arrived with a broken headstock! I was so bummed out, I need to claim since its insured but I do like it
@Trog, that B&G Little Sister's pickups and wiring are non-original. Just FYI. How do I know? Because when I heard your demo, I started looking into buying a set of them, and I noticed on yours that there are no B&G stickers on the pickups, and the harness has a ceramic disc capacitor instead of the B&G labeled paper-in-oil style capacitor. If you compare what you documented to the pictures on B&G's website, they're clearly not the stock originals. Of course, I am assuming that B&G builds their guitars using the same pickups and wiring harness that they sell separately on their website. Who knows what pickups are actually in that guitar, but they really did sound amazing in that demo.👍
It was definitely the bridge ground on the first BB. Just use your meter and put one lead on the strings and the other on the output nut. It should be 0 ohm’s.
I have a 2019 sg, from right when they changed ownership and the nut on my guitar has discolored just like this one maybe it's how these new one are aging?
Trogdude, you are right about the SG cases, those made in CA cases were better than some of Gibson's other offerings. How is research progressing on the Low Impedance models? Great stuff as always,,thanks!
Id love a review on the gift Yamaha. That thing looks awesome. Even if you have to have the elwctrics gone over. That is one special guitar and should sit proudly somewhere in your future museum.
The black Les Paul with the mahogany sides and back kinda looked like a black Gretsch Duo Jet! Never knew about the Gibson Victory guitars! Gonna watch that vid next ...☺👍
I recently bought that Donner bass and the neck was well knackered, it very, very bowed and had a sharp upward angle at the head, and the truss rod had been tightened that hard it could not be moved at all, must have used a power tool to tighten it, it was really, really bad, got my money back.
No doubt that black modern will move quickly But that B&G is an absolutely gorgeous axe. Also. Trog's bud, how do you not have a trusted guy to work on you stuff yet? That's honestly alittle surprising.
The Sparkle Black ( Graphite ) LP sure is beauty full , The ES-335 is drool worthy ,but it needs a stop tail piece for me liking, The Victory is strange , it kinda looks like a Peavey-ish axe , Thanky Trogo !
Trogly! Fun to see that green LH Glarry again. That episode inspired me to do more or less the same thing to an identical guitar, as a joke gift for my brother.
