Since I made the video, someone pointed out that you can use the Canva multiplier when you export the file and it will make the file up to 3X larger than the project dimensions, so if you make the file dimensions half the size you need and then do 2X when you export from Canva, you actually will have the size you need!

    Thank you for such an informative video. My question is, can we add the option for matte or satin finish in the same listing? I see that it's possible, but how do we work with that in terms of them having different sku #s? Thank you again!

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  Год назад +7

      Hi! To offer them both in one listing, you can publish one to Etsy and then add the additional variants in the Etsy listing, then copy/paste the SKUs from your Printify draft of the other style. I have a video that reviews how to do this with apparel items using a template, but for something like posters or mugs where there are fewer variations you don't need to use a template. I think it's faster to just publish one of the styles to Etsy and then add the variants for the other one. I'm working on a video showing that shorter process, but here's the video about the process I use for apparel if it helps in the meantime: ruclips.net/video/VpJ0mMyQfSo/видео.html

    Lots of great info! Thanks! Do people really pay $25-$30 for a poster? I generally like to include shipping free with all my products. It bumps up the base price a little, but I don't think anyone wants to see $25 poster, then be hit with a $6+ price tag. Its a bit too compicated for me to have so many different shipping profiles based on different profit margins. As it is, people seem to expect free to low shipping and near instant delivery thanks to Amazon. When shipping is free, it seems that customers are a bit more forgiving that their order isn't going to arrive in 2-3 days.
    So, I'm curious what your seeing as a store owner with pricing and shipping and sales numbers for $30+ posters.
    Thanks again for your greatly informative videos!

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 года назад +29

      Hi! At first I questioned how competitive poster pricing would be, but actually after running several searches for poster niches ("poster print" seems to be a popular way to market them especially if the design is more artistic), I saw several with "best seller" tags that are charging $25+ for the middle sizes without free shipping. I also saw some sellers bundling them together as "choose any 3" with a price of $49 for the 12x18 size, which would be a 29% profit margin if you used the matte posters with the premium pricing. One big trend I noticed is that nearly all sellers do seem to offer the smallest available size to show a really low price in search results - they're putting like $15.99 for the 9x11 size and then once you go into the listing they are $30+ for the larger sizes. It might depend a little bit on the niche though.

    Little lifehack i found out is: when you enable the „make specific design“ mode while cropping your designs in the printify editor it‘ll automaticaly increase the DPI for each size considerably. Downside is you have to adjust every single size yourself but the up in quality is definitley worth the extra couple minutes imo. Just thought i‘d throw that out there :)

    Very helpful video as always! I have a question regarding the canvas part and the restrictions it has with sizing. So I did a test design in canva with the largest sizing my print provide in printify offers and create a 23.3x33.1 canva design. I then bumped up the pixels to the max and downloaded it . After uploading it to printify there was no issue, it also showed that it is high resolution. Just wondering if I don't seem to understand the issue?

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  Год назад +3

      HI! You're not doing anything wrong - someone else pointed out that you can use the multiplier in Canva to scale the size of the file up and it definitely works just fine for making poster files! I mistakenly thought the multiplier was only for exporting compressed files when I made the video.

    Quick question: I sell canvas prints in my Etsy shop. When I go to add posters to a listing as a variation, I need to re-enter all pricing and SKU’s for each item, all over again. Am I missing something or is this standard?

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  Год назад +1

      Thank you! Yes, unfortunately when you add a new variant category to an existing listing, it wipes out all your existing variation details. You can add additional options or replace existing variations without this issue, but adding a new variation will do it. I haven't found a way around that unfortunately so far.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  Год назад

      I'm glad it was helpful! There's really no wrong answer as far as selling your designs on posters or canvas, it just depends on whether there is a market for your designs on canvas. Generally speaking, posters are more affordable than canvas, so it really depends on the niches you sell in and your style of designs. Some niches may not have a lot of customers looking to spend a higher amount on something like canvas, so posters would be a better option, but in other niches canvas may do very well. Of course you can always offer your designs on both for a while and see which sells better!

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  Год назад +2

      You're correct! When I made this video, I actually thought the multiplier was only for the "compress" option that Canva has, but as you mentioned it also works to increase the size of your file when you export it. For poster designs, if you create the file at half or one-third size and then use the multiplier it should work! Canva also has the option to export as an SVG if you have a pro account, which also would allow you to scale the size up to any poster size with just one file. Thank you for pointing this out!

    So...Im.just getting going. I started my Etsy-Printify shop in December with GUSTO! Quickly designed about 40 items..put a LOT of thought into my designs. NOT copy-paste...all originals. In fact, they are very specific to the tourist area here where I live (skiing, snowmobiling, mountains) ...which has led me down a more face to face/direct marketing path...However! I have yet to go public because I've been unemployed and I know this will take off (I've got a niche within a niche and captive targets) ...put it this way, if I make $ online, great! But I could easily do $2k a week by face to face, referrals, etc.
    Anyway...I like the poster idea/ wall art..but how much diversity is TOO much? Right now? My shop focuses on nature, bears, mountains, hiking, outdoor rec, and local town stuff... It seems to me that posters with everything from Judo to cars to unicorns would just be wasting .20 per listing to create 1,000 posters?
    I mean, you'd have to have a store 100% dedicated to selling JUST posters- called "the poster store'or something, right? 🤔
    Having a dozen posters of puppies and kittwns and hot rods really ? Probably not gonna sell...right?

    Hello, I really like your videos. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I want to try selling posters and I have this question. How do I sell a set of 2 or 3 posters on printify? Could you make a video about it?

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 года назад +1

      Hi! With Printify, they use product SKU numbers to match up orders to products in your account. This means that you can only sync orders from Etsy if they have the SKU number for each product variant in the order. So if a customer places an order for 3 separate posters from your shop, it will come through and the SKU numbers from each item will match to your Printify account. If you want to sell a set of posters as one item/variant, you can set up your listing that way on Etsy but each variant can only have one SKU number, so orders won't come through to Printify with all the posters included and you will have to manually add them to the order. I explain how to do something like this in my "combo listing" video if you are ok with having to manually update/submit the orders. ruclips.net/video/VpJ0mMyQfSo/видео.html

      Hi! Yes unfortunately Etsy only allows one shipping profile per listing, so if the different sizes have significant differences in their shipping cost, you have two choices: create separate listings for them with separate shipping profiles to charge the amount that you need to, or build the cost of shipping into the product prices and then list them together with free shipping.

    I'm just getting ready to sell posters from Printify online and what may be an issue for me is the shipping times for the posters. I would have to tell customers in the description that it can be anywhere from 7 to 10 business days to get your poster.
    How do you deal with the shipping timeframes? What do you say to your customers on this one?
    Thanks!

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  Год назад +5

      Thank you! How it is communicated would depend on your selling platform/marketplace. With Etsy, they use the information in your shipping profile (production time + shipping time) to show shoppers an estimated delivery time on the listing. If you're selling on your own site or in another marketplace, that information may or may not be part of what shows on product listings but on Etsy it helps to let the customer know what the overall delivery time expectation is before they purchase. The only time I've ever gotten complaints from customers about production & shipping times for my print on demand products, including posters, is when there are significant delays beyond the norm. In general my products are delivered in 7-10 business days (sometimes as little as 5 business days but that's not often) and I do not get questions from my customers like "where is it?" so I'm guessing the folks who don't want to wait 7-10 days just aren't buying from me because they see the estimated delivery time. One thing that helps is to use every possible location you have to set proper expectations. Use one of the sample images in your listing just to set expectations and include the same information in the description. I like to use phrases like "each one is made to order" because that has a nice sound to it. For example, I have a statement in all my Etsy listings that says "Orders do not ship immediately because each item is made to order just for you". In summary, I have not personally experienced any large-scale problem with production & shipping times with the print on demand business model. Am I missing out on some sales because the customer sees the delivery time and doesn't want to wait that long? Probably, but it has not prevented me from growing my business either. I hope that helps!

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  Год назад +5

      Thanks! You're correct, you can make larger sizes in Canva by using the multiplier when you export the file. They still have maximum dimensions when you create the project, but you can make your file half the size that you need and then use the multiplier at 2x when you export and it will be the right size. I totally did not know this when I made the video, until someone pointed it out!

    Hi, thanks for uploading this. I am slighty confused. When offering different sizes do you need to upload a different size - as in pixels for each size you offer. If you only upload a small file size (low pixel count) will the image quality not be affected on larger print sizes?? Thanks

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  3 месяца назад

      Hi! The best thing to do is to export your design in the largest size that you expect to sell, or use SVG as the file type so it can be scaled without losing quality. If you export with smaller dimensions that what you need for the larger sizes (and you did not use SVG) then you'll have to export multiple files.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  Год назад +1

      Hi! The uncoated posters from Taylor I would say should make good posters. Since they are uncoated I would assume they have a matte finish and the paper weight (176gsm) is similar to the Sensaria matte finish posters (175gsm). The only difference I see in the catalog is that the Sensaria posters specifically say the paper and inks are archival/museum quality which means they definitely will not fade or yellow for a very long time. The information in the catalog for the Taylor uncoated posters does not mention they use archival/museum quality paper or inks, but that doesn't mean they are bad quality. I haven't seen a sample but I think they should make good posters as long as you don't need a semi-gloss or glossy finish.

      Hi! You actually can use Canva's multiplier when exporting the file - I had a misunderstanding about that and thought it was only for when you were compressing the export. You can create your poster design in half the dimensions that you need, and then select the 2X multiplier when you export and you'll have the larger file that you need!

    As a new poster shop on Etsy, I would love to know how to list posters for the European and UK markets.
    I have discovered that Printify's order routing does not really work well with posters. (A UK customer's order was fulfilled in the US.)
    I am assuming it is because of the different size standards between the US and Europe.
    Is there a way to list these wide variations with different fulfillment locations without making a confusing mess of my shop?
    Would love to know your thoughts and get your guidance on this Jeff.

      Hi! Printify does not have a 100% automated method for selling internationally on Etsy that doesn't involve a fair amount of work for the seller (except for order routing which as you noted does not always work).
      If you want a truly automated solution for selling posters - before you get too far down the path I would suggest checking out Gelato to see if their platform offers what you want at prices that work for you. Their fulfillment is 100% automated and always sent to the customer's country if they have a print provider there (they have printers in 30+ countries). I personally use Printify for my shop because 95% of my business comes from the US, but I would most likely be using Gelato for more of my products if it were spread more evenly across US/Canada/UK. gelato.pxf.io/podinsights

    Do you ever sell the framed posters? Do you think the customer would perfer to pay a little extra for that?

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 года назад +6

      Hi! Great question. I would love to offer a framed option within the same listing as non-framed posters but my problem with that is the cost of shipping for framed posters is WAY higher. I like to list non-framed posters with a low shipping price and since you can only use one shipping profile per listing, it doesn't work out unless I really raise the product price of the framed options. I haven't spent time creating separate listings for the framed poster options but I know some sellers do sell those successfully. Although the price may seem pretty high, some customers are willing to pay for the convenience. If decor or wall art is a big part of your shop then I think they would be worth adding.

The way you do it works differently for Printful vs. Printify though. I have videos that show how to do it for both - you would use the same method but instead of creating different variations for different products, your custom variations would be for the different designs. If you would can you tell me how you were able to get 300DPI without exceeding the 50mb max for Prinitfy? No matter what I do in Photpea it is too big of a file to use in Printify. I can get about 220 DPI and no higher for my 20x30's. It is still max resolution but I am unsure how that would look printed.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  Год назад +1

      Hi! I usually do not have an issue when I use JPG files for posters even up to the 6000x9000 size for the 20x30 poster. PNG files do often come out over 50mb though when they are a solid image that size or larger, so I generally don't export poster files as a PNG. SVG is another option that would be a smaller file size compatible with Printify.

    is your information here about canva file sizes accurate? i'm able to save my files on canva at 15k px by 15k px. furthermore, canva allows saving files as a .svg vector file, which printify accepts as one of their file formats. are you speaking only to the *non* pay version of canva?

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi! What I was referring to with the size limitation is the ability to create a project canvas in Canva - if you try to create a new project that is 15k X 15k, it will tell you that's too large. You're totally correct that you can export a file using the multiplier to get that size though. At the time I recorded this, I actually thought the multiplier was only used when you compress the exported file (several other folks caught this in the comments here when I first posted the video last year). As for SVG, that's correct that not everyone will have that feature in Canva if they don't have Canva Pro, but you certainly can use SVG to export in a smaller size and then scale up on Printify.
