This is great idea….. but. That way I would not have a full “control” over my business. Red bubble can kick me anytime they want. But with printify I’m building my brand
Also, you can’t seem to choose the shirt itself - the quality, how thick it is, different variations for different shirt colors (so you don’t have white text on a light shirt). Sure, you can just not use a color you can’t see the text on, but there’s no option to make a unique design for that color using text you’re able to see. I love that I can do that on Printify.
This is one of the most helpful videos I've found on RUclips. Thank you for explaining the POD mystery, I didn't realize there was active and passive POD. This is so much easier to understand and follow.
@@GregGottfriedWith active POD you can set up a VIP program with Everbee to connect with Etsy for opt-in so you can email market regularly to your clients. Plus turning on the discount settings for abandoned cart, etc. Does RedBubble, Teepublic and other passive POD’s have something on there for contacting people who previously bought from you? To keep them coming back? How are you organically getting traffic?

I closed my shop today which I had about 105 products listed. I didnt like how Printify charged me for each purchase and then etsy takes out fees from what the customer paid and left me with no profit.
Dang, that's annoying. Sorry to hear that. I would suggest uploading the designs you have already made to the passive sites. Free to do, you won't be charged anything ever, and they'll get traffic organically 👍

Not only does no one Shop on Red Bubble (seriously, I'm sure you've never in your life heard of anyone buying from there), but it's hard to not have them disable your listings and accounts. On that site, just about anything gets hit for copyright even if it's wrong.
Thanks for explaining the difference between passive and active POD. Active POD is what I'm looking for, but this video is helpful for figuring that out.
I gave up my Etsy store, I use a Printify pop-up store. This way, it is more like a passive POD model. I am spreading my link with the help of friends and family. I also pay for Printify premium.
Thank you sir for this amazing information, i just looking up for this bussiness, and find out your video. I'll try this metode and keep learning. Wish me luck. Thank you..
Fascinating video and something that I wish I had stumbled across early in my POD journey because I think a common question is how orders are fulfilled. I see a ton of videos about TTShop and other outlets, like Amazon, that don't talk about how orders are fulfilled. Seems like the Shopify route is also confusing for some, especially the POD provider payout window. I think it's assumed that you can create a store, connect Printful or Printify, customer places an order, seller uses that capital to fund the fulfillment while making a small profit after the order is fulfilled. The Passive/Active convo is a really good way of presenting it. It still leaves a few questions about the Shopify/POD provider route and the flow of money when orders are placed. Passive seems like no risk, no money upfront, and active seems like money upfront to pay for the store, pay for Shopify and POD fees, but when an order comes through directly through your Shopify store, payment can be made to the POD provider and the order can be shipped after the payment has been made.
Im 61 and planning on an early retirement in a a few months when I turn 62, trying to get a head start on passive income. I've seen your vids before but this one made me sub.
Thanks Greg! I definitely preferred the passive route to begin with. That way, I could work on my other projects. So now that I have so many different things going on, I’m trying to learn e-commerce and building my own website so that I can route all my projects to and from my website. I’m sure there is a more professional way of saying that but, you know me…just a country girl, not very good with the big business attitude. 😂😂 I appreciate your help and hopefully my affiliate marketing will start sending you some business soon. 😆 ☮️✝️💟
Totally stuck on designing which I just love but don't have my shopify web page going even though I'm paying for a live web page -arg-I am excited about this journey and confident I have a real chance at making this work with my designs but totally lost with what direction to go -BUT TOTALLY APRECIATE YOUR VIDEO- LIKE WHERE WERE YOU A YEAR AGO IN MY JOURNEY-I am very impressed with this video and now sub active and will be checking out the rest-youtube has amazing experts such as yourself actually living the dream so I am now waking up a bit here and thx!
Hopefully it's all the right place at the right time! I'm here if you run into any questions but it sounds like you're going to be on a good path now 👍 Give me a shout if you need help!
Great question. On Printful and Printify, yes you will design your store. On Etsy, you use their marketplace store, but you'll still do the initial setup and design. On Teepublic, Redbubble, and Amazon Merch on Demand, you're just uploading designs without needing to design a website or store 👍
Such valuable insights! Understanding the distinction between active and passive print-on-demand methods is crucial for success in the t-shirt business. Leveraging platforms like Amazon Merch on Demand can streamline the process and maximize profitability. 💡
On a computer it’s just below the video title. On a smartphone I believe you have to click the “more” button below the video title to see it. I always try to put the resources in the first comment as well. I hope that helps!
My daughter does POD on Etsy and she doesn’t pay for anything up front. The order goes to her POD service where her designs are stored, and she gets the difference from Etsy. 🤔
Great question. If you’re building a brand I think you’ll want to make sure you’re collecting email addresses and the shirt material is premium. For passive POD we don’t get to collect customer emails and the shirt quality is mid-level so it may be different from your branded store. I hope that helps 👍
Printify now has its own store as well. With my printify yes I bring my own traffic but if they buy from my store they are paying for the product outright and I get paid on the 14th of each month.
@@GregGottfried I'm now looking at your other videos for the questions that came up after this. I'm now wanting to see of how to start a passive pod with no copyright infringement of the design I'd make.
They are. It's clear this guy has no idea what he's talking about. If you use Printful, you connect it to your Etsy shop for free and they handle EVERYTHING.
Great video. I had no idea this was another option to POD. I’m sure each platform has a different pricing model. This is definitely something I’ll make my next move too. I just opened an Etsy shop. I am still slowly learning the ropes. I love the SEO component that passive POD uses. That is my biggest learning curve, interpreting information on e-rank and hoping it works. I understand that with time practice will improve this process. Did I mention I’m not a patient person? 🤣🤣. Thanks for sharing so openly. You are definitely a subscription channel for me.
Well, good luck on artsy, don’t believe all the Etsy gurus out there. They just opened the market to China, it won’t be as easy as those few people, here on YT, are telling you it is, and most of their Etsy info is garbage.
I use teespring. I like the way the store itself works, and I have my own domain name and landing page that directs to my teespring store. However, I'm not happy with their print quality. That's really my only complaint. I'd like to see your store, but you didn't provide a link. Also, no link on your website... Do you still have a store?
Great question! I use Placeit for all my pod designs. Here’s a tutorial: Full Placeit Tutorial For Beginners (2024) ruclips.net/video/CxTqbStSxA4/видео.html
Greg I have a seller account, and I use the Amazon API to link with printful so the orders are placed, fulfilled and shipped automatically. The only thing is, yes, customer service is needed if there are any issues. But I use this process when I know there is a shirt I want to sell that falls outside the Merch guidelines.
Beautifully explained, sticking to the details. I understand that the passive POD websites bring in customers by themselves, but if i do wanna promote my product even more, do i get a personalised link for the apparel products of my design to do so?
HI, I have learned a lot from your videos. Thank you. Off your recommendation I uploaded 12 of my designs to tee public. However, they assigned me as an apprentice status and will not allow my designs to be searched or are they listed the category. They require me to have a social media presence and/or website. Do you have insight on this? It is no longer passive if I am now advertising my teepublic link to make $3 a shirt. Shouldn't I just advertise my website? Am I missing something? Thank you for your time.
Hey Jenny, I'll see if I can put together a designated video on this but it's just because it's a brand new account. Essentially, they label every new account as "Apprentice" but it automatically changes to "Artisan" once you upload enough designs and they see you're not a bot spamming the platform. They do this so brand new accounts that use bots to upload thousands of designs automatically don't all show up on the marketplace as spam.
@@GregGottfried Thank you for the clarification. I don't want to keep uploading designs without a real time line of when the account will change over to artisan. Thanks again for all your good info!
How is the quality of the passive POD products? Like with Printify I was able to buy and test the quality of their shirts as well as the print and pick the shirt brand that I preferred, as well as the printshop. Can you select a printshop/product, or is there just one main printshop/brand? And then is the main site basically responsible for everything like customer reviews and stuff? Seems like on Amazon, if theyre the ones that mess up, your product is still gonna get the bad review, right? Also, seems like pod products on Amazon are usually not great quality.
@ GregGottfried: I didn't know what I didn't know, but absolutely needed to know! I had not heard of this in any of the hundreds of videos I've watched. QUESTION: Can I use a passive POD company and have my own website simultaneously? Thanks so much!
How does one market themselves or how are they found if one specifically wants to purchase products from a specific seller if a personalized page isn't created on Amazon or Red Bubble for example in the way Spotify is?
one point I would like to make, with Amazon Merch, I have been on that for about 2 years and I am stuck at level 10, this limits on how many you can list and the scrutinize designs and phrases very strictly, out of about 30 designs submitted I have had at lease 20 rejected for one reason or another, as a result no sales so still stuck at level 10 and have not used it for months, it sounds easy but it is not you are limited to 2 placements at a time this includes the markets you want to sell in.
I just got a solution to my own dilemma of having a good amount of own design and loving creating them but not loving so much the idea of POD. Thank you!!! What I am wondering got much is the profit on on 2 other platforms? I heard Amazon was about $5 per item
Perfect! Teepublic is typically the lowest because they set the pricing for us. They are between $1-5 per sale. RedBubble you get to set your own pricing just like Amazon. They average about $5 per sale. You’re right about Amazon as well being about $5 per sale.
This is assuming that we can get approved through Merch. Some of us didn't, so now we go the Etsy route. Also, I would do both to increase income & not have all my sales on one platform.
Hey no worries if you didn't get into Amazon on the first try. You can always reapply with a different email address. More on that here: ruclips.net/video/gWJvAFi692A/видео.html
Do the passive pod places let you choose the material and printing type dtg, sublimation, etc, and can you stop at any time? After you do can they still use your designs?
Great questions. Each pod site has its own printing style (you can look up each site to see how they print). We get to choose the shirt styles and material (some sites offer more choices than others). And you can remove your listing and stop selling the design on the site at any time. Ahhhh man just started my printify/etsy shop lol, newer subscriber and happy I found your channel 🤝🏿.
lol ahhhh hopefully you're not too deep in it yet! If you run into any questions as you're going forward just let me know 👍
I gave up my Etsy store, I use a Printify pop-up store. This way, it is more like a passive POD model. I am spreading my link with the help of friends and family. I also pay for Printify premium.
wow. how awesome and clear is that! thanks for this explanation. i hit the Subscribe button halfway through the video.
Thank you sir for this amazing information, i just looking up for this bussiness, and find out your video. I'll try this metode and keep learning. Wish me luck. Thank you..
Wish you all the best 🎉❤
I appreciate your help and hopefully my affiliate marketing will start sending you some business soon. 😆

That’s awesome! I love it, you’re building up your empire 😎 As always, I’m here to help whenever you need it!
Thanks man. I am going to try this.
Nice! If you run into any questions just let me know 👍
Thank you. I did not know that this was possible
Glad it was helpful to see! If you run into any questions just let me know 👍
Hi. Thanks for sharing..do I have to design a website first?
Great question. On Printful and Printify, yes you will design your store. On Etsy, you use their marketplace store, but you'll still do the initial setup and design. On Teepublic, Redbubble, and Amazon Merch on Demand, you're just uploading designs without needing to design a website or store 👍
There is also the option to have your own production line (actually production of the products).
Such valuable insights! Understanding the distinction between active and passive print-on-demand methods is crucial for success in the t-shirt business. Leveraging platforms like Amazon Merch on Demand can streamline the process and maximize profitability. 💡
greg, where is "below in the description" on your video?
On a computer it’s just below the video title. On a smartphone I believe you have to click the “more” button below the video title to see it. I always try to put the resources in the first comment as well. I hope that helps!
My daughter does POD on Etsy and she doesn’t pay for anything up front. The order goes to her POD service where her designs are stored, and she gets the difference from Etsy. 🤔
why would they decline my sign up for merch on demand?
Thank you so much for this info!!!!
I’m building my own brand. I use Printful. Are there any cons to also doing passive POD in addition to active POD?
Great question. If you’re building a brand I think you’ll want to make sure you’re collecting email addresses and the shirt material is premium. For passive POD we don’t get to collect customer emails and the shirt quality is mid-level so it may be different from your branded store. I hope that helps 👍
Printify now has its own store as well. With my printify yes I bring my own traffic but if they buy from my store they are paying for the product outright and I get paid on the 14th of each month.
Really good info!
Thank you for distinguishing active and passive POD. I thought all were passive.
You're welcome, and glad to hear it was helpful. If you run into any questions just let me know 👍
@@GregGottfried I'm now looking at your other videos for the questions that came up after this. I'm now wanting to see of how to start a passive pod with no copyright infringement of the design I'd make.
They are. It's clear this guy has no idea what he's talking about. If you use Printful, you connect it to your Etsy shop for free and they handle EVERYTHING.
Thank you for the info. Is T-Public free?
Free to use 👍
Thank you, God Bless!
Thanks!
Hi Greg, thank you for this video. Can you use the passive sites for other POD items, such as journals, cups, etc?
Many thanks Greg!
I use teespring. I like the way the store itself works, and I have my own domain name and landing page that directs to my teespring store. However, I'm not happy with their print quality. That's really my only complaint. I'd like to see your store, but you didn't provide a link. Also, no link on your website... Do you still have a store?
Probably doesn’t want to tell people his shirt so they don’t step in his niches.
Helpful! Did you use another site to make your initial “gardening” design?
Great question! I use Placeit for all my pod designs. Here’s a tutorial: Full Placeit Tutorial For Beginners (2024)

Very helpful, many thanks
Thank you!
Found exactly what I want❤❤
Beautifully explained, sticking to the details. I understand that the passive POD websites bring in customers by themselves, but if i do wanna promote my product even more, do i get a personalised link for the apparel products of my design to do so?
Excellent idea!!
@@jennyhernandez6031it changes when you got a sale and a review. So I bought one of my own creation. I'll if my status changes then
How is the quality of the passive POD products? Like with Printify I was able to buy and test the quality of their shirts as well as the print and pick the shirt brand that I preferred, as well as the printshop. Can you select a printshop/product, or is there just one main printshop/brand? And then is the main site basically responsible for everything like customer reviews and stuff? Seems like on Amazon, if theyre the ones that mess up, your product is still gonna get the bad review, right? Also, seems like pod products on Amazon are usually not great quality.
Atsy is asking fr upfront payment,i wonder how much is Amazon
Yes Etsy requires upfront payment for each order received. Amazon does not have any upfront payments, rather the customer pays the full price upfront.
U are right. Oassive all theway. Thanks
Do you have a video on how to start your own clothing brand this way until you can afford to go through a manufacture through Alibara or similar?
I don’t unfortunately. Active POD sites would give you the most customizability as far as the types of clothing, printing areas, tags, and packaging.
one point I would like to make, with Amazon Merch, I have been on that for about 2 years and I am stuck at level 10, this limits on how many you can list and the scrutinize designs and phrases very strictly, out of about 30 designs submitted I have had at lease 20 rejected for one reason or another, as a result no sales so still stuck at level 10 and have not used it for months, it sounds easy but it is not you are limited to 2 placements at a time this includes the markets you want to sell in.
Dangggg thats so cool, thanks
No worries! If you run into any questions just let me know 👍
Thank u for sharing your great video I just starting my t shirt business
what platform do you use?
Are there people who do all of the above? How well do they do?
looking this for a long time. I print I design. thank you
Do the passive pod places let you choose the material and printing type dtg, sublimation, etc, and can you stop at any time? After you do can they still use your designs?
Great questions. Each pod site has its own printing style (you can look up each site to see how they print). We get to choose the shirt styles and material (some sites offer more choices than others). And you can remove your listing and stop selling the design on the site at any time. @@GregGottfried thanks for answering. I’m going to watch the video you linked, as I have just about made up my mind. If they did book printing also that would be a blessing and solve most of my issues lol
@@David-dy3bb Amazon has a book printing POD department too 👍 it’s called Amazon KDP. Free to use as well
@@David-dy3bbjust make sure you copyright your books (it’s not as scary as it sounds). I helped my friend do that for her coloring book on Amazon and just asked chat gpt for the steps.
@@Jackofallzebras thanks for the advice. I did copyright it and it wasn’t as scary as I thought 😂. I also had my designs copyrighted
its interesting , but you not create a brand in this maner
That’s true. It all depends on what kind of business you are looking for. I’ve done it both ways and both are definitely possible.
In teepublic, there's no traffic at all if you're on apprentice level.
Are you able to do both active and passive at the same exact time? I feel like you could definitely maximize profits with doing both.
Yes you absolutely can 👍
Is there any way of checking a design for copyright infringement? It's such a grey area it would be great to be able to get the all clear on a design before using it.
Great question. Here's how I do it: ruclips.net/video/UWf2oFExj58/видео.html

If you have time to answer, what is the usual quality of the t-shirts on Amazon, Redbubble and Teepublic? Is it something consumers are happy with usually? For example, I like softer t-shirts. Thanks in advance for your answer.
Same question here.
what will happen if i use 3 of them at the same time also uploading the same merch on each of them?
That’s allowed 👍 it gets your more exposure and sales
Do you need all the business stuff like tax ID and all that for the Amazon one?
I feel that people just, log onto Etsy, favorite the things you or I took time to make, steal the idea and copy it. Meanwhile, zero sales on Etsy. Just fees.
Redbubble not great!
Sir, I created an account in amazon merch on demand but it gets rejected
No worries! You can re-apply as many times as needed. This video will help: ruclips.net/video/gWJvAFi692A/видео.html
