I just got a wake up call last week on Etsy. I been doing it for a year and starting to get momentum. We went on vacation last week and I logged in, I was out of country. They locked my account, shut down my store, and there was no one to talk too. I tried for 5 days to get someone. I couldn't sleep thinking my store was gone. All of a sudden they sent me a reset password link and I was able to get it back up and going. I have started this week making me a Shopify Website. I will let my Etsy do it's thing but I will not focus as much on it as I have. I also do Amazon and it's been doing great but I totally get what your saying
That's great that your Amazon store has been doing well. I just applied to their Merch program last week and I'm still waiting to hear if I've been accepted. I have had an Esty store for 2 years and have over 100 sales. Not great from my perspective, but it shows Amazon I do have potential and commitment. The reason why I want to transition from Etsy is I found there's a direct correlation between how much you're in your store and/or posting new products versus how many views you get. If you let it run on autopilot for a while, your views (and sales) will tank. This is my side hustle at the moment, so I don't have time to babysit it nearly every day. I tend to make new things in batches, then I let it ride for a while. And Etsy punishes that. So I need to find something more passive.
All of the platforms use an algorithm that uses your activity and increases views... If you have 20 items to post, it is better to post 4 per day for 5 days than posting all at once. Also, pin your items to Pinterest the same way, AND pin a few other other pins (recipes, funny dog videos, quotes, etc) during the same session...the algorithm likes VARIETY. 8:41 That’s the itty bitty part is what has turned me off from ever even trying to sell POD. My bank account has been locked due to inability to pay medical bills from my disability. I’m essentially broke. Can’t access credit card or have no one to do it for me. If I started a pop-up store, there would be no traffic as I wouldn’t be able to pay for promoting it. 😤😮💨
I like the idea of the Prinitfy Pop-up store, not having to have cash set aside for sales. Now if I integrate that with the Shopify Starter plan to get the store design, will I be responsible for paying for my merchant before it ships, or do I still have the benefit of Printify paying those fees? Thanks for all you do!
Wow! Once again you go above and beyond what most other RUclipsrs are offering, Sarah! Thanks! The one thing that wasn't 100% clear was: with a Shopify Starter shop do I have to front up the costs of the print-on-demand items for those first couple of days? Or does it work like a Printify Pop-Up store as far as that goes?
Thank you! So, for the Starter Store, you'll still need to cover the production costs. It is just a cheaper, simpler way of setting up a working Shopify store, compared to their usual accounts - but it doesn't have any deal with Printify or anything where they'll cover the cost for you. Good question.
@@WholesaleTed Thank-you ! Hey, Sarah, could you please do us a video on the problem of customer service on Etsy as a seller, vs other POD platforms, including the option of digital downloads. It would be much appreciated, if possible. Thanks again. 🙂
Everything has the pros and cons. Shopify charges monthly fee and that's something newbie to consider when open a shop there. Very informative. Keep crafting.
I had Etsy since 2016, when I finally opened a shop for the first time I immediately got banned. I made an appeal, and I got an email stating that their decision was final.
I was making $4000 a week on Etsy with original POD designs and they closed my store for copyright, simply because I designed a "Red Bull" which the company red bull copyright struck. It was my only strike
Hi, does Etsy warn you about copyright infringement before they close your store? My store was shut down yesterday for violating their policy, but I'm not sure why.
❤ Wonder video Sarah! My question is, can we have both a regular (paid) Shopify store, and a Shopify Pop-Up store at the same time? My regular Shopify store is a completely different theme from a new type of product I'd like to test (Personalized products). So I'd like to keep them separate. OR, do you think it would be better to still have BOTH my original themed Shopify store, AND the new personalized products (and other products with my art on them), all combined into one Shopify store? I don'y]t know if I could create separate landing-style pages for each type of theme or product type within one larger shop, or not? The themes and products are very unrelated, but I need to keep my costs as low as possible for the time being, but also think it is important to keep the themed shop and it's products separate somehow, from the new personalized products I'd like to offer.
My best seller just stopped selling. This is how it work: "thank you for selling this product, now we are hiding it and we will show a product from another seller".
Very good tutorial. But very advance level, frustrating and overwhelming for beginners. We don't want to sell physical products that need shipping and complicated processes. Beginners start with digital products... 😊
If a Seller makes waves on Etsy....They will close your Business down...They Scammed me out of my Gucci Bag with a Buyer by telling her to keep my bag no need to return it to me, plus they gave the Buyer a Full Refund also....Would you still want to sell on Etsy if that happened to you?????
Most folks do have a credit card to cover costs of POD upfront that will be covered quite fast to say the least, in particular when you just open a shop and you don't get tons of sales. This is the way to start your biz. In addition, most people in the world other than the US don't like Etsy due to the many loopholes any longer. Best bet get a platform that will work with you so that you don't have to do all the work. In that manner, you will be able to focus on your creations , shop administration and to say the least you are the boss not Etsy.

Thanks for another very informative video Sarah, Shopify Starter sounds like the way to go... Quick question - does what you teach in your eComClubhouse program work with Shopify Starter? I just ask because when I look at the breakdown of the program it still seems to be covering setting up stores with Etsy and the regular Shopify... Thanks again Sarah.
Thanks Sarah 👍 for sharing alternatives to Etsy because I was considering opening a Etsy shop but have reconsidered it and changed my mind. Instead I will use an alternative. Love 🥰 the video and love 💕 Sarah.
Thanks David, although just a note - I'm not saying that Etsy is bad, and this video doesn't tell anyone not to sell on Etsy. I still sell on Etsy. But I've had lots of people tell me they've decided that Etsy is a website they want to use and they want alternatives. I'm of the opinion that no website or platform is better than the other, just that they each have their own pros and cons 6:57 if Etsy's pros match up with what you want, sell on there. If they don't, sell elsewhere!

Hey, thanks a lot for this. For the Shopify Starter Store, how do we market it? Does it rely to Facebook Ads or advertising it in general? I think for this one, you really need to have an extra cash that's why beginners rely on marketplace like Etsy. Oh well, in every business we really need to shell out some money lol. Also, I never looked at Ebay the same way lol...Maybe I'll try that, too.
You’re very helpful and knowledgeable. I appreciate your hard work on providing the information that’s been helping me in my journey to success. Thank you and lovely accent. Stay beautiful and humble.
Great video as always! I'm thinking of choosing the Shopify Starter store, but is it the same as Etsy where I have to pay up front for POD products? Thanks again!
Great question. Yes, it is the same as Etsy. It is good to keep in mind that the ability to be a payment processor is not given out lightly. When any payment processor - such as Etsy, or Shopify, collects payments - they legally have many obligations, and one of them is to handle chargebacks & protect customers from fraud. Therefore, only they can hold & access the customer funds. Which is why if you plugin a POD app to Shopify, that POD app has no way to access the funds. Shopify has securely collected the money the customer paid, they are processing it and making sure it is not fraudulent, and they can only distribute it to the legal owner of the money - you, not the POD app.
Since when does Etsy charge you for up-front costs? I thought it was only Shopify that did that, in fact I could have sworn you made a video about that being the pro of Etsy over Shopify. Having studied these sites for days through videos such as yours, now I'm super confused.
It's a recent change they introduced only a few months ago and it isn't every store, they are trialing it with a selected number of new users, so you will get mixed replies, some people get charged the one time fee, others don't. Because it isn't yet fully rolled out and it is brand new, it is a little confusing to new people to this industry 🙏
eBay - incredibly high fees. About 30% (including advertising). For example: Order total: $38 Selling costs: - $11 Transaction fees -$6 Ad Fee General -$5 ⛔ Shopify - This is completely different. This is an engine for your website. This is not a marketplace with ready-made traffic. As a result, you will need traffic to attract buyers. So think twice.
I have been waiting to start an Etsy POD store as I have been hearing bad stuff like this about them, and I want to make sure I have enough in reserve to cover the cost of orders until they release the money to me. So these alternatives are good to know, but from my understanding Etsy handles the sales tax on the items, so at tax time we Americans are not having to submit a sales tax form to every state that we sold to, or to pay a tax preparer to do it. Etsy takes care of that, from what I have heard from other YT channels. To me that has always been a huge downside of Printify, and I thought I could get around it with an Etsy store... until they started doing this ridiculous stuff. Do any of these alternatives, Shopify, eBay or Printify pop-up stores handle the sales tax for us so we don't have to keep track, file and pay every state that we sold to?
Shopify will calculate sales taxes and TaxJar makes paying taxes in the USA super simple, although chances are you'll at most have nexus in 1 state (if you actually live in the USA) and won't get nexus until your store is much more successful & paying for apps like this is not a problem!
I should note though that I'm not an accountant, do not take any accounting advice from me, I have stopped giving any tax advice because I'm not legally qualified to give it 🙏
After I was thrilled to land my first sale, Etsy had other ideas. They made a big joke😂🤣 . They closed my account forever. I went to RUclips to find a solution. Then I came across this video. Now I’m in the same boat as you 😂.
Hi Ted. I tried to open a new shop on Etsy yesterday. I tried to open a shop for the first time a year ago, unfortunately I made several mistakes when opening the shop, related to entering my information wrong (I didn't know that the bank account and the main name had to be the same name) and I managed to close that shop after months. And yesterday when I tried to open the new shop, with all my information correctly, and with listings of my own photographs that I was going to try to sell on Etsy (which there is no way to have copyright problems either, and all with mockups of each photo of very good quality) they charged me 29 dollars as a fee. And before I finished doing the authentication the red banner appeared saying that the account was suspended. Then I received an automatic email from Etsy saying that I could not open any store with them in the future... they charge that money, and then they don't let me open the shop, but they don't return that money either? Doesn't it seem like a scam almost? They should return the money at least to the accounts that they didn't let open the shop, I think that should be the right thing to do. Otherwise it's like a scam...
Hi Sarah, I am in NZ too, love your videos! I have a question. What country do you select for country of tax residence (printify pop up store) or etsy location settings? I am wanting to sell to USA and other overseas markets. Thanks in advance.

I am a full time Etsy Seller and Etsy closed my shop too! I am So frustrated and now almost going bankrupt.
What do you sell and why Etsy closed your shop?
My best seller just stopped selling. This is how it work: "thank you for selling this product, now we are hiding it and we will show a product from another seller".
Rip off….get busy at your job working 9 to 5
I had no idea you can do POD on eBay...thanks!
You are my #1 RUclipsr. You are clear, professional, helpful and honest. I will come to you before I go to anyone. I'll be honest, you are not the only one I follow but if I want a quick logical answer, your the bomb.
Dear Sarah, Thank you for all your tips in this video. A lot of questions were answered here. I really appreciated the FLASH Shopify Starter tutorial! I have been wondering about the Printify pop-up shop and you answered my questions and qualms PERFECTLY! I was also Glad to hear about the Shopify Starter shop. I have considered using the BUY NOW link ($9 per month), for FOCUSED sales on my blog. I haven't checked the starter site since viewing your video this morning, but it might have replaced the BUY NOW link...❤ Love all your videos because I learn so much! I cannot afford to make mistakes when I finally open my shop.
Etsy closed my shop, ruining my little busnisess
I am reluctant to try Shopify because of the added task of taxes. How does one handle VAT in foreign countries etc.
I've actually sold POD products on ebay but the fees just eat all the profits, I sold for 14.99 and actually lost money in the end by quite a lot too
Etsy shut down one of my listings but others are selling the same thing. They were leaves. LOL
Looking into POD now. TY ❤️
Etsy suspended my shop yesterday, wondering if it's an IP address issue. I'm located in Malaysia but I'm using print on demand service provided by Printify so I set my shop location in the US. Just got my 66 sales in two months and I can't believe this is happening
I sweer in Morocco Etsy Close accounts after stoolen 15 euro registration fees I have the bank statements to show and the closing account screenshot in the first minit after payment done
I'm looking to start an Etsy competitor website. Need funding but already have the website created and it will be owned by someone in USA and not China nor stockholders. It will be owned by all that post.
Thank you some people are still pushing etsy when a storm is rolling through
New subscriber here ... Your videos are great. Can you suggest the best platform to sell digital prints
eBay's following etsy's steps with bans and suspensions with no reasons. Shopify is best but needs marketing .
i’m about to leave Etsy i don’t do print on demand.. but it’s taking down listing etc.
Hi, I followed everything about the print on demand on Etsy. After two sales, they shut down my store... I really do not understand why
Will you need a business license???
I’ve tried a few different things you mentioned but I’m not getting any results. Do you work with clients? TIA
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS SARAH AND YOU ARE VERY LOVELY YOUNG WOMAN🙂🙂,GOD BLESS!!🙏🙏🙏🙏👁️👁️
I love your accent. You are a beautiful person, inside and out. Thanks for helping others. I just started my venture to share my 30+ years of experience to help others. Helping others is a big part of what life is all about. New sub.
Wow. So Etsy charges you for clicks whether people end up buying your products or not. Shame!
Printify pop up store sounds great, however not available in my country :(
entered my information for the free eBook and have not received it. I did check my spam folder as well as promotions and nothing.
You’re very helpful and knowledgeable. I appreciate your hard work on providing the information that’s been helping me in my journey to success. Thank you and lovely accent. Stay beautiful and humble.
even listing need to pay..very bad choice for new comer who still not make any profit yet...
Ebay will close your account without an explanation also
So much negative stuff about Etsy I heard for a long time now! Thanks Wholesale Ted ;your the best.
Thank you for the Shopify store info. I wanted to sell on Etsy, but I didn't want the drama.
The same here 😂
lol finally something that looks easy enough for me to do. I always get stuck on the tech, and give up. Thanks Sarah
Your videos are always so helpful. Thank you
And thank YOU for your support it means a lot 🌞
Thank you Sarah, it's a new awesome video ❤
👋 Thank you for stopping by, your support means a lot!
Mine too got suspended forever when I was making money finally
Unfortunately, there is no printify pop-up option for creators in Australia.
Unfortunately printify pop up isn’t available in the UK

Thank you so much!
Etsy sucks. They treat their artists like dirt. Good bye, Etsy :)
Etsy now charges a fee to open new stores!
They charge a fee to SOME new stores, LOL! Haha! It is such a confusing policy it's baffling! 🫠
@@WholesaleTed oh wow! I didn’t know it was some. They definitely tried to charge me a fee.

Then there's Printful... we're so overwhelmed, lol.
Yes, you should all close down your etsy shops.
9 extra dollars? Calm down there Missy.
Thank you for providing so much value. I appreciate you.
EbAY MIGHT just be the only option WORSE than Etsy!! the biggest CON is EBAY is a CON!
eBay - incredibly high fees. About 30% (including advertising).
For example:
Order total: $38
Selling costs: - $11
Transaction fees -$6
Ad Fee General -$5
⛔ Shopify - This is completely different. This is an engine for your website. This is not a marketplace with ready-made traffic. As a result, you will need traffic to attract buyers. So think twice.
You are the smartest person on the internet! I love how thoughtful and thorough your explanations are!

First of all I find your content AMAZING!!! There are so many options I really do not know which one to pick. PLEASE HELP LOL 😊
Thank you for the video. Great information.
Come on. I got an Etsy store and I don’t want to lose it
popup store not available to other countries tho :(
You are a certified print on demand beast!
I should note though that I'm not an accountant, do not take any accounting advice from me, I have stopped giving any tax advice because I'm not legally qualified to give it 🙏
I hate I have to pay 20 dollars to set up Etsy shop??
Thank you! Awesome video. Thanks for sharing your time and knowledge. So hellpful and informative.
Hi Sarah, I am in NZ too, love your videos! I have a question. What country do you select for country of tax residence (printify pop up store) or etsy location settings? I am wanting to sell to USA and other overseas markets. Thanks in advance.
Do not sell on Etsy...Not a trusted site!!
Thank you Sarah for your tips. I am still planning on which platform to choose. Would you recommend using all of the platforms ie Etsy, EBay, Shopify etc. to gain more exposure rather than simply choosing one? Thanks 💜🙏
Hi Ted, I'm new to Print-on-Demand (POD). May I know would you recommend Active POD or Passive POD? What are the pros & cons in your experience?
Thank you so much for sharing.
I learnt a lot from watching your channel.
